A tray bug-fix release. Upgrading in place keeps all of your locations and
settings — there is no data migration and no configuration change.
What's fixed
The tray icon now shows the weather. It used to be the app logo (twice, in
fact — two tray icons were being created). It now renders the current condition
and/or temperature, following Settings → System tray.
The tray popover behaves like a tray popover. It opens next to the tray icon
on the correct monitor — including multi-monitor setups with mixed display
scaling — closes when you click elsewhere, and its Open full dashboard button
actually opens the dashboard.
The tray popover loads. On a fresh install it could sit on loading
placeholders forever because it never noticed the location added in the
dashboard. It now refreshes when opened and shows a clear message when there is
no location yet or the weather could not be fetched.
Much lower CPU use while ZWeather sits in the tray. Closing the dashboard used
to only hide it, and on Windows the hidden window kept running every background
animation. Closing it now releases it entirely; it is rebuilt when you reopen it.
Severe-weather notifications now follow your primary location and keep working
while the dashboard is closed.

The Linux packages are now built on Ubuntu 22.04 and need glibc 2.35 or
newer: Ubuntu 22.04+, Debian 12+, Fedora 36+ and their derivatives. This
restores support for Ubuntu 22.04 and Debian 12, which could not run the locally
built 0.1.1 packages. Check with ldd --version.
How these builds are produced
All seven installers are built by the Release ZWeather (Windows + macOS + Linux)
GitHub Actions workflow (.github/workflows/workflow.yml), triggered manually via
Run workflow or gh workflow run.
- It creates a draft release first, then each platform job uploads its
installers to it: Windows (windows-2025, NSIS + MSI), macOS Intel and Apple
Silicon (macos-latest, DMG) and Linux (ubuntu-22.04, deb + rpm + AppImage). - A final job hashes all seven files into one
SHA256SUMS.txtand attaches it.
The same file goes on the website inzweather/releases/. - Nothing is public and no git tag is created until the draft is published by hand.
- Linux is deliberately built on the oldest supported Ubuntu, because the packages
require at least the glibc of the machine that built them.

ZWeather 0.1.1
Released 2026-08-10 · Changelog · GPL-3.0
A small bug-fix release. Upgrading in place keeps all of your locations and
settings — there is no data migration and no configuration change.
What's fixed
The Suitability card could contradict itself. An activity would show a
"Poor" badge with the reason "Ideal" underneath it. Swimming between 20 and
21 °C was the clearest case, but Running, Cycling and Hiking hit the same
problem around 25–28 °C. The badge and the reason were being worked out
separately and could drift apart; they are now produced together, so they
cannot disagree. Borderline conditions also read honestly now — you get
"22° cool" or "30 km/h breeze" instead of a misleading "Ideal".
Windows rendering artifacts are gone. Three separate glitches: a stray white
square near the bottom-right of the dashboard, a white wedge in the top-left
window corner, and location tabs that drew twice with the outline offset from
the text. The last two came from the transparent, undecorated window — WebView2
composites that incorrectly — so on Windows the app now uses an opaque window
with square corners. macOS and Linux keep the rounded translucent window.

sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS.txt # Linux / macOS
Get-FileHash .\ZWeather_0.1.1_x64-setup.exe -Algorithm SHA256 # WindowsLinux compatibility notice
The 0.1.1 Linux packages require glibc 2.39 or newer. They are built on a
current rolling-release system rather than on an older LTS base, which raises the
minimum. Confirmed working on Ubuntu 24.04+, Fedora 40+ and Debian 13+.
Ubuntu 22.04 and Debian 12 cannot run the 0.1.1 Linux builds. Check with
ldd --version; if it reports less than 2.39, stay on 0.1.0 — the Windows
rendering fixes in this release do not affect Linux, and the suitability fix is
the only change Linux users miss.
To restore support for older distributions, the Linux packages need to be built
on an ubuntu-22.04 runner or inside a matching container, rather than locally.
How these builds are produced
- Windows and macOS are built by the
Release ZWeather (Windows + macOS)
GitHub Actions workflow (.github/workflows/build.yml), triggered manually via
Run workflow. It creates a draft release first, then uploads the four
installers and aSHA256SUMS.txtto it. Nothing is public and no git tag is
created until the draft is published by hand. - Linux is built locally with
NO_STRIP=true APPIMAGE_EXTRACT_AND_RUN=1 pnpm tauri build --bundles deb,appimage,rpm.
NO_STRIPis required because linuxdeploy's bundledstripcannot read the
.relr.dynsections emitted by current toolchains; it costs nothing, since the
system libraries it would strip are already stripped. - The combined
SHA256SUMS.txtshipped on the website covers all seven files and
is generated after the Windows and macOS artifacts are downloaded from the
draft release intozweather/releases/.

Move your cursor over the map to see the value at that point. Every saved location appears as a labelled pin, with the active one highlighted by a pulsing halo.
⚠️ Severe-weather alerts
- 🇺🇸 US coverage via
weather.gov - 🇪🇺 European coverage via MeteoAlarm national feeds
- Routed automatically by the active location's coordinates
- Top-of-dashboard banner, severity colour-coded
- Detail modal with full text, affected areas and timestamps in the location's timezone
- Alerts overlapping a selected day also surface in the per-day modal
Desktop notifications fire the first time a new alert is seen, with per-severity toggles (extreme · severe · moderate · minor) in Settings.
☀️ Sun & moon
- Explicit sunrise & sunset times with the day-length total
- Daylight progress bar that animates to the elapsed share of the day
- Concrete golden-hour windows (not just a generic countdown)
- Moon-phase card with illumination percentage
🌙 Click the moon — detailed view
A fully SVG-rendered moon with:
- Selenographically-placed maria (Mare Tranquillitatis, Imbrium, Serenitatis, …)
- 23 named craters at their real coordinates (Tycho, Copernicus, Kepler, Aristarchus, …)
- Tycho's ray system painted across the southern highlands
- Regolith texture, terminator shadow line, limb darkening and faint earthshine on the unlit side
- Real-time libration wobble based on lunar age
- Apparent disc size scales with Earth–Moon distance (1.06× at perigee · 0.94× at apogee)
Plus, in the panel:
- Illumination % · lunar age (days) · Earth–Moon distance with a perigee/apogee orbit bar · angular diameter
- Moonrise · transit · moonset — in your location's timezone
- The next four principal phases with countdowns
- The current zodiac constellation the moon is passing through
🚴 Activity suitability
Eight outdoor activities scored good · fair · poor with reason chips that explain why — too hot, windy, golden hour, slippery roads, ideal, etc.
| 🏃 Running |
🚴 Cycling |
🥾 Hiking |
🏊 Swimming |
| 🌳 Outdoors |
📷 Photography |
🔭 Stargazing |
🚗 Driving |
Air quality is factored into outdoor activities: poor AQI downgrades the score and surfaces the air-quality band as the reason.
📍 Locations
- Add by city search
- Set primary · remove · right-click for actions
- Drag-to-reorder the location strip
- Mouse-wheel scrolls the strip horizontally
- One click switches the active location
- Location names re-localise when you change UI language
🟢 Live freshness
A small pill in the title bar shows when the data was last updated. It turns 🟡 amber when the feed is stale (older than 2× your refresh interval) and 🔴 rose when you go offline.
🎨 Weather icons & animation
- Premium icon set with day-and-night variants
- Animated hero motion layers behind the temperature, themed per condition — clear · partly cloudy · fog · rain · snow · storm · hail · …
- A condition-tinted gradient over the whole window with a smooth fade between states
Toggle animations off individually
- Animated icons — freezes weather icons to a single frame
- Animated background — instant swap instead of cross-fade
- Time-of-day shift — keep the day palette even at night
