Important

This is the official public documentation and release repository for Chunkstone. The application source code is private and is not included in this repository or its Git history.

Chunkstone is a native PySide6/Qt desktop application for Windows x64. It works locally: no account, hosted service, telemetry, or internet connection is required for normal world operations.

Download

Package Recommended for Link
Windows installer Most users; includes update detection, shortcuts, and an uninstaller Download Chunkstone-Setup-1.8.0-x64.exe
Checksums Verify the installer before opening it Download SHA256SUMS.txt

See Verify a download for a one-command Windows checksum check.

Warning

Chunk pruning, selective restoration, repair, optimization, conversion, record deletion, and NBT editing can permanently change a world. Close Minecraft and other editors, work on a copy, and keep an independent tested backup.

What Chunkstone does

Workspace Capabilities
Dynamic map Loads the visible viewport on demand, releases stale tiles while panning, jumps to block or chunk coordinates, and adds block-level detail as you zoom in.
Regions, pruning, and restore Draw, move, resize, save, reload, and remove protected regions; prune outside them, remove selected chunks, or restore selected chunks from a Chunkstone backup.
Corruption and repair Scan chunk payloads without changing the world, show exact findings on the map, back up the database, remove confirmed malformed chunks for regeneration, repair LevelDB, and compact it.
NBT and records Browse and edit supported little-endian Bedrock NBT, preview saved maps and structures, export .mcstructure files, and delete selected records after confirmation and backup.
Player activity Track unchanged player_<XUID> NBT records locally and notify about members inactive for 30 days by default.
World conversion Convert supported Java and Bedrock worlds locally using the bundled conversion runtime.
Map Publisher Preview and export a self-contained browser map with dimensions, crop bounds, grids, regions, markers, zoom settings, presets, and optional ZIP output.
World export Save the resulting world as a ZIP to a location you choose.

Safe first run

  1. Close Minecraft, Bedrock Dedicated Server, Realms utilities, backup software, and other world editors.
  2. Make an independent copy of the world.
  3. Open Chunkstone and select the individual world folder.
  4. Wait for the modal loading window to finish before changing workspaces.
  5. Inspect the map and counts before modifying anything.
  6. Run a read-only corruption scan before repair when diagnosing damage.
  7. Export and test the finished world before replacing the original.

A valid Bedrock folder contains level.dat and db/CURRENT. If Chunkstone reports that db/CURRENT is in use, another process still has the LevelDB database open. Close that process; do not delete database control files to bypass the lock.

Core workflows

Map and region management

The map renderer follows the viewport instead of scanning an entire world before showing terrain. Use x, z to jump to block coordinates or c:cx, cz for chunks. Cyan overlays protect keep regions; red overlays identify chunk selections used for targeted pruning or restore; yellow overlays mark corruption findings.

Region definitions can be saved to chunkstone_regions.json in the world folder and loaded in a later session.

Pruning

  • Prune outside preserves chunks overlapping named keep regions and removes generated chunks outside them in the selected dimension.
  • Prune selected removes only chunks covered by explicit red prune selections.

Destructive operations use modal progress windows so another world action cannot start simultaneously. Chunkstone creates a timestamped database backup before supported destructive operations and offers world export after the workflow completes.

Selective backup restore

Chunkstone 1.8.0 can restore only the chunks covered by the red map selections. Choose Restore now on the map or Restore selected on the Pruning page, then select a timestamped db_backup_* folder created for the same world. Chunkstone restores records to their original dimension and chunk coordinates without rolling back players, settings, maps, or unselected chunks.

Before changing the live database, Chunkstone creates a fresh undo backup and reads a protected working copy of the selected older backup. Chunks absent from that backup remain unchanged. Keep Minecraft closed, never combine individual LevelDB files by hand, and test the restored world before replacing a production copy.

Corruption repair

The read-only scanner validates supported subchunk, palette, block-index, heightmap, and biome payloads and reports the affected dimension, chunk coordinates, block origin, and reason. Repair removes records belonging to confirmed malformed chunks so Minecraft can regenerate those coordinates, then repairs and compacts LevelDB.

Chunkstone cannot reconstruct block data that is already missing. Regenerated chunks do not restore player builds and can produce terrain borders when generation rules have changed. Keep the backup until the repaired copy has been tested.

Local map publishing

Map Publisher generates a portable website containing local HTML, CSS, JavaScript, metadata, and PNG tiles. The result can be opened offline or uploaded to a normal static host. Review the exported area before sharing it because the published files contain the world information you chose to export.

Privacy

Chunkstone is designed for local operation. The current build does not intentionally transmit world data, NBT contents, file paths, personal information, telemetry, or usage analytics. Backups, region files, activity records, tile caches, conversions, and exports remain on the computer and at locations chosen by the user.
