Nationwide
When you visit the MortaltyMinder website, the site will begin on the Nationwide View shown below. This page introduces MortalityMinder and begins a user's experience with examining mortality trends at a national level.
The grey column on the left of the page contains a brief summary of our app and some concise instructions.
The U.S. map in the center of the page displays mortality rates at the county level across the nation for a selected time period and mortality type. Darker reds indicate higher mortality rates.
Users can select a cause of death from the dropdown in the upper-right navigation bar to have MortalityMinder use the respective mortality rates application-wide. On this page, the map and line plot will be updated to match the selection. This navigation bar is static between all pages.
The upper-right navigation bar can also be used to select which state to use application-wide. In this view, state selection updates which state's mortality rates are displayed in orange in the line plot. This line plot displays the selected state's mortality rate and the nationwide mortality rate through time.
Immediately above the map are multiple rectangular buttons. Users can select which time period the map is displaying with these buttons. This will also update the vertical green marker on the line plot to the corresponding time period.
The line plot to the right of the map plots mortality rates through time for the selected state and the whole nation. Its purpose is to aid in comparing the nationwide and state mortality rates through time.
To move sequentially between views in MortalityMinder, users can use the arrows on either side of the page, the left and right arrow keys, or a swipe horizontally. The bottom four dots can be used to jump directly to a page.
