Let's begin!

To start out with, we click on the link on the page entitled MORTALITYMINDER. You should end up on the page called "Nationwide View". It looks a bit like this:

Landing Page

Next, we go over the very basics of using it. On the top left, you should see a grey bar. On the left of the grey bar, there will be a state name. On the right of the grey bar, there will be a cause of death (the default is usually Deaths of Despair).

Grey Bar

There is a grey column on the far left with a basic summary of our app and some very simple instructions.

Next to the grey column, you will see a map in shades of red - the red shows the range of deaths in that county for the year range selected. There will be a tab where you can select years. To change the year shown, press the button to your desired year.

On the right of the map, you will see a graph. It shows trend-lines for the state you select and the trend for the nation. The green vertical line will move with the year. This allows you to see whether the state is above or below the national average in number of deaths per thousand for the selected cause of death from 2000-2017.
