🔍 What It Does
- Turns any Android 6+ device (e.g. old ZTE Sonata 3) into a RTSP IP camera
- Streams H.264 video + AAC audio over LAN at
rtsp://<device-ip>:8554/live(default port; you can change this) - Zero-install: just sideload the APK, grant Camera & Mic permissions, hit Start
⚙️ Features
- Jetpack Compose UI with Start/Stop, Settings, How-To-Connect and About pages
- Auto-discovers the phone’s IPv4 address at runtime
- Settings (resolution, framerate, bitrate, rotation, port) are saved to a JSON file and restored on launch
- Low-ish latency in
ffplay; works with VLC, ffplay, and generic Home Assistant cameras (Theoretically, not tested in Home Assist Yet)
🐞 Known Quirks
⚠️ Single-viewer only: additional clients will drop the first connection⚠️ Audio always on — no mute toggle yet- 📶 High bitrates (> 3000 kbps) can saturate slower Wi-Fi networks
- 📱 App is signed in debug mode, so you’ll get an “Untrusted App” prompt on install
- ⚙️ It might crash sometimes 👎
- 🛠️ UI and error-handling still early-stage—expect some rough edges
🚀 Next Steps
- Swap in a production-signing config and rebuild release APK
- Add multi-viewer support (MJPEG or full RTSP server)
- Migrate to CameraX and explore WebRTC for < 100 ms latency
- Polish UI, add flashlight toggle & live preview pause
