Flood events pose a potential risk of mobilizing runoff-associated pollutants, such as heavy metals, herbicides, pathogens and tire wear. Analyzing such episodic influxes aims to identify potential stressors contributing to surface water pollution and is required according to recent EU regulation on surface water quality monitoring.
This fully passive water sampler was developed, utilizing a fixed inlet elevation for sample intake. Water enters solely when the river stage exceeds this threshold, after which the device seals automatically. The adaptable design incorporates mechanical interfaces for remote monitoring and control.
