Fresh cloned repository: make init fails

Summary

I followed the development instructions on a Debian 13 system.
When executing
make init
I get this error message:

go.thethings.network/lorawan-stack/v3/pkg/ttnpb: /usr/local/go/pkg/tool/linux_amd64/compile: signal: killed
Error: error compiling magefiles
exit status 1
make: *** [tools/mage/mage.make:19: tools/bin/mage] Error 1

Current Situation

Building lorawan stack does not work.

Desired Situation

I would like to have an own build to check how lorawan-devices parameters can be used.

My Google query did not find it, unfortunately.
Adding Memory to the VM helped.
