If you run Philips Hue or SmartThings and send Device Sentinel's diagnostics, they show more about how your bridge or SmartThings location is doing. That is what support for these two is being built from. Nothing changes in what Device Sentinel reports to you, and nothing new is sent to your bridge or to Samsung's cloud.

Philips Hue

A bridge whose connection drops reads "down, retrying" in the file, not "connecting". Hue lights keep showing their last state in Home Assistant while the bridge is unreachable, so this line is the one sign that the bridge has gone.

Each Hue device's line says when the bridge's word on it is out of date. While the bridge is down, a lamp reads "connected (stale while the bridge stream is down)" and is not counted for or against Device Sentinel.

Lines are added for:

  • battery level
  • devices Hue does not certify
  • a light that turns on or off while the bridge says it is not connected

Hue Tap and other Green Power switches are listed. They read "no link reported (Green Power)" instead of being left out.

The ignore list in Hue's options is described as Hue applies it. It keeps a light available. It does nothing for a sensor or a switch.

Each bridge's line also shows:

  • its firmware and any update waiting
  • when Device Sentinel last heard one of its devices
  • how many times it changed state in the last hour

SmartThings

Each SmartThings device reads "available" or "unavailable", as Home Assistant shows it. The line also says how the device reaches the cloud: it is a SmartThings hub, it sits behind one, or it connects on its own. Before, a hub was taken for a device behind a hub. Only SmartThings' own entities count, so a Battery Notes entity on the device cannot make it read "available".

Each location's line shows whether Home Assistant's connection to Samsung's cloud is running. It reads "stream running", "stream retrying" (with the wait before the next try), "stream stopped", "not loaded" with the reason, or "needs signing in again". While that connection is down, each device reads "(stale while the cloud stream is down)", since Home Assistant cannot hear a device go offline then.

Two of the Same

Two Hue bridges, two SmartThings locations, two Z-Wave networks or two Matter servers each get their own lines. Before, they shared one name, and the file showed them as one device switching between two states once a minute. Each carries the last eight characters of its entry's id. A house with one of each sees no change.

A dismissed discovery no longer appears as a second bridge, controller or server.

Upgrading

Update and restart. Nothing to do unless you send diagnostics. To include Hue or SmartThings, tick them under Extended Diagnostics in Device Sentinel's settings.

An existing stack_probe.md keeps its old heading until the file is replaced at its size limit. The lines under it are in the new form from the first minute after the update.
