Patch Cable 1.1.1 — public beta

Free virtual audio cables and per-app audio routing for macOS.

What's new in 1.1.1

  • A simpler licence written for a free app, and you may now share the unmodified installer with anyone, free of charge.
  • No changes to the app itself: if you have 1.1.0, updating is optional.

Features

  • Create virtual audio devices (1–64 channels, 44.1–192 kHz) that appear in Sound settings and every audio app.
  • Route individual apps, all system audio, or audio inputs into a device, each with its own volume, mute and level meters.
  • Wire source channels to device channels on a drag-and-drop canvas, and monitor any device on your speakers or headphones.
  • Runs from the menu bar, with optional launch at login.

Download

  • macOS 14.4 or later, Apple Silicon and Intel: PatchCable-1.1.1.pkg (signed and notarized)
  • SHA-256: 5178bd6e04479db414f26b3e4cc8dc5a8161edb3b268d53214c0259e74d9fcea

The installer adds Patch Cable to /Applications and an audio driver to /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL, then restarts the macOS audio system (sound stops for a moment). The first time you add an app as a source, macOS asks you to allow audio capture.

Beta notes

  • This is pre-release software: please don't rely on it for work you can't redo.
  • An audio input running at a different sample rate from the Patch Cable device may be switched to the device's rate.
  • Patch Cable checks this page about once a day for new versions (you can turn this off in the app). Nothing else leaves your Mac, and your audio is never recorded or sent anywhere.

Free, under The WAV Lab Software Licence Agreement shown by the installer.

Feedback and support: info@thewavlab.com, or Send Feedback… in the app.

MidSide 0.2.0 — public beta

A Mid/Side encoder/decoder plug-in: shape a stereo mix in the Mid/Side domain, or decode a raw M/S microphone pair to stereo.

  • Input Mode: Stereo (L/R), or Mid-Side for an M/S mic pair recorded to two tracks and panned hard left/right into MidSide.
  • Mid and Side level, Mid/Side mute and Side polarity invert, plus Width from mono to double width.
  • Two-band shelving EQ on Mid and on Side, independently.
  • Linked stereo output limiter with adjustable ceiling and optional lookahead.
  • Mid/Side and output meters, phase correlation, gain reduction, and a Fold to Mono button for checking mono compatibility.
  • Light and Dark themes. Ctrl+Click (Cmd+Click on Mac) returns a control to its default, and double-clicking a value lets you type one in.
  • No added latency (unless the limiter's Lookahead is on), with 64-bit internal processing.

Downloads

  • macOS 12+, Apple Silicon: MidSide-0.2.0-macOS.pkg (VST3, AAX; signed and notarized)
    SHA-256: aa2694181408b7606e5347be96212d9265b5a2e63132f4ec6b08fd933d5af867
  • Windows 10+, 64-bit: MidSide-0.2.0-Setup.exe (VST3, AAX; signed by Sounds Like Joe LLC)
    SHA-256: 81aaaef470f3af3b4303c7a3a2ce9afc991100ac72c73b4c83591fd21f95a0af

Both installers let you choose VST3, AAX or both. In Pro Tools, MidSide is a stereo plug-in: it appears on stereo tracks, auxes and buses, under Sound Field.

Beta notes

  • This is pre-release software: please don't rely on it for work you can't redo.
  • Turning the limiter's Lookahead on adds a few milliseconds of latency, and your DAW may briefly re-sync when you switch it.
