A reference wiki of your game, and the millionaire's trading licence now works everywhere.

  • Trade everywhere above 1,000,000 credits. The game promises that a pilot this rich can trade on every station and planet. The hangar already opened at places without trade, but you could not sell equipment or loot there. Now every station keeps stock, and you can buy and sell anywhere the hangar opens, as in the original game.
  • New in-game Reference. An illustrated wiki of your own game: every planet and station, the galaxy map, ships with a turning 3D model, weapons, goods, contract types, races, the story chapters and characters, ranks, loyalty, the game modes and a guide to playing. Open it with Menu → Reference at a station, or from Help on the title screen and in Pause. Story pages grow with your campaign, so chapters you haven't reached stay hidden. Desktop builds can save it as a web page.
  • Online edition. The full reference, spoilers included, is at galaxian.wwworm.com/wiki. It is built from the English iPhone release.
  • The reference's own text is available in all 15 interface languages. Names, descriptions and dialogue always come from your game file.

Your pilots, saves and imported game are kept; no reimport is needed.

Downloads include Windows, Linux x86-64, Linux ARM64, macOS, one Android APK, Web, source, and SHA256SUMS.

The remake's own interface now speaks your language.

  • Interface text in 15 languages. Menus, settings, help and messages written by the remake are available in English, Russian, Ukrainian, German, French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Turkish, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Where your game has its own words for credits, cargo, shields and the like, the translations use them.
  • Follows your game automatically. On Auto, the interface uses your game's language, including community translations such as a Russian ru.lang, then your system language, then English.
  • Asks once when they differ. If your system language and the game's language differ, the first start asks which one the interface should use.
  • New Options → Languages section. It holds the game Language and the new Interface language setting; you can also pick the interface language before importing your IPA.
  • Chinese, Japanese and Korean draw with bundled Noto Sans CJK fonts, including in the browser. On phones, the scalable text font switches on automatically when the original lettering cannot show the interface language.

Translations are new and may read imperfectly in places; corrections are welcome. Story, ship and item names always come from your game file.

Your pilots, saves and imported game are kept; no reimport is needed.

Downloads include Windows, Linux x86-64, Linux ARM64, macOS, one Android APK, Web, source, and SHA256SUMS.

Swarm mode hull transfer fix.

  • Transferring to another hull no longer leaves you unable to shoot. When the new hull could not mount any of your weapons, the transfer removed them all. It now fits the new hull's cheapest gun, the same way a run starts. Runs saved in that state get their gun back when loaded.
  • The transfer now changes the ship you fly. The new hull's model, size and handling take over right away; before, only its numbers changed.
  • The save made after a level-up card always loads. Shots still in flight from a weapon you just refitted or left behind no longer make that save invalid.

Your pilots, saves and imported game are kept; no reimport is needed.

Downloads include Windows, Linux x86-64, Linux ARM64, macOS, one Android APK, Web, source, and SHA256SUMS.

Readable translations on phones.

  • New: Options → Display → Text font (phones and tablets). The original lettering only has Latin characters, so a translation such as Russian showed as rows of question marks on mobile. Auto, the default, keeps the original lettering unless the selected language needs letters it lacks, and then switches to scalable text. Original and Scalable force either one. Desktop text was already scalable and is unchanged.
  • Translated text now wraps inside its panel. Radio messages, briefings, dialogues and menus measure and wrap text with the same font that draws it, so long lines no longer run past the panel edge.
  • Community translations are listed by name. An IPA that adds a ru.lang now appears as Русский under Options → Language.

Thanks to MierivaL for the Russian translation, for reporting the problem, and for the "Force vector fonts" proposal in #2 that this feature grew out of.

Your pilots, saves and imported game are kept; no reimport is needed.

Downloads include Windows, Linux x86-64, Linux ARM64, macOS, one Android APK, Web, source, and SHA256SUMS.

@TheWWWorm TheWWWorm released this 20 Sep 10:16

The weapon icon, the fire button, the sounds and a steadier picture.

  • The equipped weapon's icon is back on the flight display. The original draws the catalogue icon of the weapon you are holding just left of its name; the remake only drew the name. It now sits in that slot on the touch plaque and beside the label on desktop, using the same imported artwork the hangar shows.
  • The fire button's glow is centred. Its highlight sat up and to the left of the disc, which made the rings around it look off-centre. The original artwork's glow is dead centre; so is this one now.
  • Each weapon has its own sound. Every shot used to play one laser clip at a fixed level. The game now picks the clip the original selects for that weapon — lasers, EMP and rockets each have theirs — at the archive's own volume.
  • Radio messages chime. A message that appears plays the original pop-up sound. This archive registers no speech clips, so messages stay silent after the chime, exactly as on the iPhone.
  • No more doubled reticle when you turn fast. Two things were behind it. Mouse steering turned the ship inside the mouse event, between simulation steps, so the aim ring sat a step ahead of the camera on every other frame; it is now applied at the step. And the 60 Hz simulation is drawn blended between steps, so flight renders at your panel's rate instead of showing each frame twice on a 120 Hz screen.
  • New: Options → Display → Frame rate limit. Auto follows the refresh rate of the screen the window is on; or choose 30, 60, 90, 120, 144, 240 or Unlimited.

This release reads weapon and radio sound selections from the archive, so a cache from an earlier version asks for the IPA once. Your pilots and saves are kept.

Downloads include Windows, Linux x86-64, Linux ARM64, macOS, one Android APK, Web, source, and SHA256SUMS.

Menus open without the pause.

  • The stutter around Options is gone. Every screen that draws the game's own text rebuilt its glyph font from the imported artwork as it appeared, reading the sheet back off the graphics card each time. On phones and in the browser that was slow enough to feel like a hitch. The font is now built once for your imported game and reused, so opening and leaving Options, the shop, the hangar, the mission board and the map is a swap rather than a pause. Desktop was never affected.
  • Nothing about the text looks different, and nothing else changed.

Your pilots and imported content carry over from 1.0.16. No reimport is needed.

Downloads include Windows, Linux x86-64, Linux ARM64, macOS, one Android APK, Web, source, and SHA256SUMS.

@TheWWWorm TheWWWorm released this 15 Sep 13:34

Three things players reported, fixed from the original game's own behaviour.

  • Docking tells you how you are doing again. Arriving at a station now shows the messages the original game shows: "Congratulations! Your reputation is increasing. Your new rank is Capable!" as your kill count climbs, a new level when your worth grows, the 100,000 / 500,000 / 1,000,000 credit landmarks, and 10 / 25 / 50 / 75 / 100 percent of the galaxy explored. Each is its own dialog, before the station opens, and each compares against your previous visit — so it announces what changed while you were away, never your whole career.
  • A station keeps its stock and its jobs while you fly. Coming back from a mission no longer reshuffles the shop, the hangar and the mission board. They are redrawn when you arrive without a mission — after travelling, or when you enter the station fresh — exactly as the original does. A contract you accepted leaves the board instead of sitting there as a finished job, so you can take another from the same list.
  • Options no longer restarts the title background. The scenery behind the menus keeps running when you open Options, as it already did for the other title screens.

On enemy variety: the mix of Vossk, pirate and Terran ships per mission type was checked against the original and already matches it. Pirates appear in Pirates, Space junk, Minefield and Asteroids jobs; escort, intercept and capture work send Terran ships when your client is Vossk. Vossk enemies genuinely dominate the original too.

Import your game data again after updating. Existing pilots carry over; credit landmarks you already passed stay passed.

@TheWWWorm TheWWWorm released this 13 Sep 20:01

Linux on ARM now has a native download.

  • New: gof1-1.0.15-linux-arm64.zip. Extract and run gof1.arm64 on a 64-bit ARM machine — a Raspberry Pi 5, an ARM laptop, an ARM cloud desktop — with a working desktop OpenGL or Vulkan driver. The x86-64 build is unchanged and still the right one for an ordinary PC.
  • It is the same game. The ARM64 package carries byte-for-byte the same engine data as the Windows, Linux x86-64, macOS and Web builds: same campaign, same Survival and Swarm, same import, same saves. Nothing about the simulation or the interface differs by architecture.
  • Your existing pilots and imported content carry over. No reimport is needed, and a save made on one machine works on the other.

Everything else in this release is 1.0.14 unchanged; there are no gameplay changes.

Downloads include Windows, Linux x86-64, Linux ARM64, macOS, one Android APK, Web, source, and SHA256SUMS.

@TheWWWorm TheWWWorm released this 13 Sep 19:38

A new arcade mode: hold off a growing swarm of fighters, and spend every level on an upgrade drawn from your own game's catalogue.

  • Start → Swarm opens the new mode. The arena begins with six fighters and grows into a crowd that closes from every direction, with surges after the fifth minute. Every kill fills a level bar below your hull and shield readouts.
  • Every level offers three cards. Mount a weapon in an empty category, refit it further up its catalogue line, add a muzzle, raise its damage, cut its reload, extend its range, sharpen its muzzle velocity, upgrade your shield, repair hull on every kill, raise the experience each kill is worth, or transfer to a different hull.
  • Declining a card repairs a quarter of your hull, so healing is a decision you make rather than a pickup you chase. A slow standing repair runs the whole time, and you start with a shield fitted.
  • Modifiers attach to the mount category, not the weapon. Refitting up a line keeps everything you invested in it. Transferring hulls drops weapons the new hull cannot mount, and their upgrades wait for you to mount that line again.
  • Your best score unlocks hulls, one per rank on the Survival ladder, from the Icarus up to the H'soc. Swarm keeps its own score board and its own save, separate from Survival.
  • Enemies open below their catalogue damage and climb past it as the run goes on, so the opening minutes are survivable and the late arc is not.
  • Every weapon, shield and hull is the one from your game file, unchanged. The population, pacing, card pool, the scaling applied to those imported numbers and the unlock thresholds are written for this remake.

Campaign, exploration and Survival saves remain compatible; no reimport is needed.

Downloads include Windows, Linux, macOS, one Android APK, Web, source, and SHA256SUMS.

Tilt steering no longer reads backwards on iPhone and iPad, and the on-screen flight controls can be placed and resized to fit your hands.

  • Tilt steering direction is fixed on iPhone and iPad. Safari reports the motion sensor with the opposite sign to every other browser, which reversed left and right while pitch stayed correct. Both are now read the same way, and holding a browser in portrait steers the same way as landscape.
  • Pause → Adjust controls places the touch controls by hand. Drag any control to move it, tap one to select, then use Smaller and Bigger to resize it. The steering stick, throttle, Fire, Boost, Weapon, Missiles, Pause, Navigation, Speedup and Dock can all be moved and resized.
  • Reset this restores one control and Reset all restores the original layout. Done keeps the arrangement, Cancel discards it.
  • Your arrangement is stored with your other settings and follows the original layout on a screen it has not seen before.
  • The steering stick's throw, its touch area and the space for placing the pad under your thumb all scale with it, so a larger stick behaves like the original one.

Existing saves and imported content remain compatible; no reimport is needed.

Downloads include Windows, Linux, macOS, one Android APK, Web, source, and SHA256SUMS.
