Releases: TheX24/spicy-player
Release list
Spicy Player v0.6.0
Sync
- Tap to the beat (Settings → Scroll & Sync): tap along to the song and it sets the delay for your headphones or speaker
- Quick settings: a new floating button over the lyrics for the song's own delay and the output's, tuned while the song keeps playing. Both delays now reach ±5 s
- Per-song delays are saved and add to the output's delay (also in Settings → This song)
Lyrics sources
- Musixmatch and LRCMux word timing is ignored by default and their line timing used instead, since it's often wrong. Settings → Sources → Musixmatch turns it back on
- Settings → Sources says why Spicy Lyrics is resting and when it tries again
Settings
- Back up and restore your settings, source order, delays and Spotify links to a file (Settings → Advanced → Backup)
- The player's extra buttons (like, shuffle modes…) are off by default for new installs
Fixes
- Words before and after the sung one no longer look slightly smaller than they should with boosted word motion
- With no player running, the logo shows straight away
- Music haptics follow the drums more closely and feel steadier, on phones that support them
Limitations
- Spotify playing on another device (Spotify Connect) isn't tuned for sync
- The animated background uses mobile data for each new album's loop, so it's off by default
Full Changelog: v0.5.1...v0.6.0
Spicy Player v0.5.1
Battery
- Much lighter in the background: about 0.6% of a CPU core, down from 3–4%. The cover is no longer redone every few seconds, and nothing keeps ticking while the lyrics screen is closed
- Smoother motion (Device) now says it uses slightly more battery
Lyrics sources
- Spicy Lyrics no longer loses to RMM Revival when RMM Revival is ordered above Apple Music. RMM Revival passes on Spicy Lyrics' lyrics, so its answers now rank by where they really come from
- When Spicy Lyrics can't find the song on Spotify, RMM Revival's copy of a Spicy Lyrics community sync is used, with its credits
- Spicy Lyrics answers faster: it checks all of a song's Spotify releases at once instead of one after another
- Settings shows which source is still being checked while the lyrics on screen may still change
- Fixed a rare case where a lyrics lookup never finished
Good to know
- Each song's lyrics are looked up again the first time it plays after updating
Limitations
- Spotify playing on another device (Spotify Connect) isn't tuned for sync
- The animated background uses mobile data for each new album's loop, so it's off by default
Full Changelog: v0.5.0...v0.5.1
Spicy Player v0.5.0
What's new
Settings, regrouped
- Smaller pages that say what's in them: Lyrics, Scroll & Sync, Background, Now Playing, Controls, Sources, Device and Advanced. Your settings carry over as they were
Lyrics
- Merge syllables (Lyrics): a word split into syllables fills as one word. Off, Full, or Held words only
- A new line now sits clearly further away than a wrapped row of the same line, and interlude dots sit halfway between the lines around them
Now playing
- Song header size: Small (a slim row, like Apple Music's), Medium or Large
- Animated background: in Cover Art mode, the album's Apple Music animated cover plays behind the lyrics, with the same blur slider
- Contributor profiles open inside the app (a setting keeps the old open-in-browser behaviour)
Controls
- Choose how long the controls stay after a touch, and whether they also hide while paused
- Turn each floating button on or off: the player's own buttons, romanize, resync, expand and Lyrics Manager
Finding the right song
- Find on Spotify: pick the right recording from Spotify's results, or search for it yourself. From the no-lyrics notice or This song
Fixes
- Spicy Lyrics no longer goes missing after a pre-fetch, and source errors say why they failed
- YouTube Music: video titles and channels ("Official Video", "ArtistVEVO", "Artist - Topic") are matched to the song, and sources are asked again once the song's length arrives
- Resync works on Spotify Free, where the player ignores seeks
- The cover's shadow is no longer cut off at its sides
- Settings dropdowns are redone, and pop-ups dim the whole screen
- Dragging inside a pop-up no longer gets cancelled, and a text field scrolls when you drag its cursor to the edge
Limitations
- Spotify playing on another device (Spotify Connect) isn't tuned for sync
- The animated background uses mobile data for each new album's loop, so it's off by default
Full Changelog: v0.4.0...v0.5.0
Spicy Player v0.4.0
What's new
Landscape
- Side panel layout: cover and song on one side, lyrics on the other, active line centred
- Controls live on the cover (tap it to show them); a button swaps the panel's side
- With the header hidden, lyrics span the page over one low control bar
Haptics
- Touch feedback on buttons, toggles, sliders and gestures (Settings → Screen → Haptics)
- Music haptics: follow the drums or a steady beat, with a strength slider
Fixes
- Lyric sync: the clock follows local players right away and no longer drifts on stale pause reports (YouTube Music) or runs ahead after resuming (Spotify)
- KDE Connect and other relayed sessions: stray position reports no longer make the lyrics jump
- Play/pause taps no longer freeze the lyrics for a moment
- Pinned credits fade with the controls instead of sliding under your finger
- Cover gestures and credit taps no longer bring the controls back
- Opening a lyrics maker's or uploader's profile asks first
Limitations
- Spotify playing on another device (Spotify Connect) isn't tuned for sync
- While paused, pinned credits stay hidden behind the controls
Full Changelog: v0.3.0...v0.4.0
Spicy Player v0.3.0

Fixes

- Spicy Lyrics source: request deadline and back-off after failures
Spicy Player v0.2.0
The first release of the new Spicy Player. It keeps the old app's Spicy Lyrics-style lyrics, but instead of being a music player it follows whatever plays in Spotify, YouTube Music or any other app.
The old offline music player lives on at spicy-player-old. This one installs as a separate app, so the old one and your library stay as they are.
What's different from the old Spicy Player
It's a lyrics app now, not a player
- Follows the song playing in any app through its media notification (needs notification access), and controls it: play/pause, skip, seek, and the player's own buttons such as like, shuffle and repeat.
- No local library, playback, tag editor or TTML file pairing. Those stay in the old app.
Lyrics from the internet, not from your files
- 15 lyrics sources instead of LRCLIB alone: Spicy Lyrics, AMLL TTML DB, Apple Music, Bini, Unison, NetEase, Kugou, QQ Music, LRCLIB, Musixmatch, LRCMux, Kuwo and Genius, with optional YouTube and RMM. Reorder them or switch any off in Settings → Sources.
- Word-synced lyrics win over line-synced, and between equal ones your order decides. Spicy Lyrics comes first for its community syncs; the Apple Music lyrics it serves rank as Apple Music.
- Songs are matched to Spotify to find the exact recording, and lyrics are cached and fetched ahead for the next songs in the queue.
- Optional blends give line-synced lyrics word timing borrowed from another source.
Lyrics screen
- A new look in Spicy Lyrics' style: its compact song header (which grows into a big cover view; swipe the cover to skip), playback controls with a glass timeline, pop-ups, and a loading skeleton. The lyrics fill the screen.
- Sync tuned for players that report late (e.g. Spotify on another device through KDE Connect), with a Re-sync button and a lyric delay saved per audio output.
- Uses much less battery: 60 Hz by default (Smoother motion turns on your screen's full rate), and nothing redraws while paused.
Romanization
- Japanese reads like Spicy Lyrics (kuroshiro over kuromoji, with whole-line context), Chinese uses the
pinyindictionary with tone marks, and Korean follows pronunciation. - Romanizations written by people on Genius are used where they line up with the lyrics.
Settings
- A searchable settings screen in Spicy Lyrics' style: Lyrics, Appearance, Screen, Sync, Sources and Advanced.
- New settings for lyrics size, system font, blur, glow, a legacy or still background, keeping the screen on, and low performance mode.
Updates
- The app checks for new versions and installs them after you confirm (Settings → Check for updates).
Spotify Free
- Explains when Spotify refuses a seek, a previous or a skip, and a refused skip no longer looks like a pause. Re-sync works without seeking.
Known limits
- Pre-release: expect rough edges. Tested on a Pixel 7 (Android 16) and on Android 6.0; Android 8 to 11 are not checked yet.
- If you installed 0.1.0 (a debug-signed test build), uninstall it first: this release is signed differently, so Android can't install it over the old one. Updates from 0.2.0 on install in place.
Spicy Player Next 0.1.0
Spicy Player Next 0.1.0
First development release of the external-player lyrics app. It follows music playing in another Android app; it does not play or manage a local music library.
What's here
- Finds active Android media sessions, follows the currently playing app, and switches when playback moves to another app. A monotonic lyric clock keeps timing smooth between session updates.
- Shows synced lyrics with word highlights, scrolling, held-word effects, background vocals, duet handling, credits, and optional Japanese/Chinese romanization. Supports TTML, LRC, and plain-text results.
- Draws album-art-driven animated backgrounds and includes the new Spicy Player Next launcher icon.
- Looks up lyrics across multiple providers, ranks results by quality, caches them, and fetches ahead for queued tracks. Spicy Lyrics lookups use cautious Spotify track matching, with a manual Spotify ID override when needed.
- Offers optional blends: keep the words from a line-synced source while borrowing word timing from QQ Music, Kugou, or NetEase. Blends are off by default.
- Provides source enable/order settings, a user-supplied Spicy Lyrics client key, and lyric delay saved separately for each audio output route.
- Includes play/pause, skip, and seek controls for the selected player's media session, plus a Debug panel for source outcomes, track matching, clock drift, and command acknowledgement timing.
Before installing
- This is a debug-signed APK for testing, not a production or Play Store build. Android 6.0 or newer is required.
- Grant notification access so the app can see active media sessions. Playback controls and seeking depend on what the selected player exposes through Android MediaSession and on any account restrictions.
- The Options and Debug screens are functional placeholders. There is no local music library or playback service in this app.
