MegaManX-NX 1.0.2

Choose a tag to compare

@Thorhax Thorhax released this 07 Oct 12:08

Full speed at the stock CPU clock, including widescreen, Zero / co-op and the X2/X3 weapons. Overclocking is no longer needed.

Changes

  • Faster rendering: about 12 ms per frame at 1020 MHz with 16:9 and Zero, down from over 17 ms in 1.0.1.
    • Background tiles inside the original 4:3 area are drawn through a fast path, and identical pixels reuse their colour.
    • Lines the widescreen renderer draws itself are no longer also drawn by the native PPU.
  • Fixed invisible enemies with widescreen. If you moved faster than the game expected (for example with Zero's dash), an enemy could spawn before its graphics had loaded and stay invisible while still attacking. This happened, for example, with the missile mech at the start of Highway. Such enemies now spawn once their graphics are ready.
  • The save-state and rewind thumbnails now show the widescreen picture you actually see.
  • The output is pixel-identical to the previous renderer. This was verified frame by frame over a scripted Highway run, playing as X and as Zero.

Install / upgrade

Replace sdmc:/switch/MegaManX/MegaManX.nro with the new one, or extract MegaManX-NX.zip to the root of your SD card. Your config.ini, saves and mod choices are kept.

No ROMs or game assets are included. Licensed under PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0, as inherited from upstream.

MegaManX-NX 1.0.1

@Thorhax Thorhax released this 06 Oct 14:40

Performance update for the widescreen / Zero / X2-X3 weapons renderer.

Changes

  • About 38% less renderer time per frame (measured on a desktop benchmark of 16:9 Highway frames: 14.1 ms down to 8.7 ms).
    • Sprite pieces are now matched against OAM once per frame instead of on every scanline.
    • The renderer and its per-pixel helpers are now built with -O3 and link-time optimization.
  • The output is pixel-identical to 1.0.0. This was verified frame by frame over a scripted Highway run, playing as X and as Zero, single- and multi-threaded.

Install / upgrade

Replace sdmc:/switch/MegaManX/MegaManX.nro with the new one, or extract MegaManX-NX.zip to the root of your SD card. Your config.ini, saves and mod choices are kept.

The original 4:3 game runs at 60 FPS at stock clock. For widescreen, Zero / co-op and the X2/X3 weapons, 1785 MHz is still recommended.

@Thorhax Thorhax released this 06 Oct 14:13

First release of Mega Man X Recompiled for Nintendo Switch, a homebrew port of mstan's Mega Man X Recompiled.

Install

  1. Extract MegaManX-NX.zip to the root of your SD card. The NRO goes to sdmc:/switch/MegaManX/MegaManX.nro.
  2. Put your own Mega Man X (USA) (Rev 1) ROM in sdmc:/switch/MegaManX/, for example as mmx.sfc.
  3. Optional: put your Mega Man X3 (USA) ROM (for Zero, co-op and the X3 weapons) and your Mega Man X2 (USA) ROM (for the X2 weapons) in the same folder, then select them in the launcher's Mods page.
  4. Launch from the Homebrew Menu. Title-override mode is recommended.

Highlights

  • 60 FPS with frame pacing locked to the display.
  • 16:9 widescreen, on by default.
  • Playable Zero, X / Zero co-op, and the X2/X3 weapons.
  • The full launcher (Mods / Controls / Settings), with touch support and a built-in SD-card browser.
  • Password saves, save states (− + A) and rewind (− + right stick click).
  • Dash is on R by default.

Performance

The original 4:3 game runs at 60 FPS at the stock CPU clock. Widescreen, Zero / co-op and the X2/X3 weapons need 1785 MHz (e.g. with sys-clk) for a stable 60 FPS. To play at stock clock, turn Widescreen off in Mods.
