@Thorhax Thorhax released this 10 Oct 11:08

What's new in 1.1.0

  • 16:9 widescreen (on by default). Fights show more of the stage at the sides; the HUD stays centred. Switch back any time in the menu (+ and - together) under SCREEN: 16:9 / 4:3.
  • 2D menu screens (warning, SEGA logo, Player Select) get black side bars instead of stretched or repeated art.
  • Faster renderer: the 3D is split across the worker cores more evenly, and the 2D layers are drawn alongside it. Tested on hardware: locked 57.52 FPS in fights at 16:9.

Known limit: the arcade's 2D sky and horizon layers are only 512 pixels wide (the game shows 496), so at some camera angles a small seam can appear in the sky just past the old 4:3 edge. The 3D stage, buildings and fighters are drawn properly across the full width.

@Thorhax Thorhax released this 09 Oct 13:57

The first release of VF2-NX-Modern: a native Nintendo Switch port of Virtua Fighter 2 (Sega Model 2A arcade), built by static recompilation.

Tested on hardware: locked 57.52 FPS (the Model 2 refresh rate) through full fights, including Sarah's stage.

Features

  • Static recompilation: the i960 game program, the TGP geometry program and the sound 68000 program are translated to native ARM64 code.
  • Accurate Model 2A timing: board timers implemented (fixes Pai's braid and slow loading).
  • SCSP sound: streamed voices and effects play correctly, and the reverb DSP works (a MAME register mirroring bug that smeared the mix is fixed).
  • Threaded renderer: the picture is drawn on a worker while the next frame runs; threads are pinned so sound never stalls the game.
  • Arcade mono mix (default) with voices and hits +3 dB; stereo selectable in the menu.
  • In-game menu (+ and - together): frame pacing, performance overlay, test/service switches, sound mix, mute.
