Releases: Thorhax/Virtual-On-NX
Release list
Virtual-On-NX 1.2.0
New: 16:9 widescreen
- On by default. The 3D arena fills the sides of the screen with real scenery, not stretched; the HUD stays in the middle as in the arcade.
- Switch between 16:9 and the original 4:3 at any time in the
+and-menu (SCREEN). - The 2D sky in the launch sequence wraps into the sides instead of smearing.
- Full speed at 16:9: tested on hardware at a locked 57.52 FPS, the arcade board's own frame rate, including the heaviest stages.
Recommended
- CPU overclock: 1428 MHz (for example with sys-clk).
⚠️ Stereo and video recording
Sound defaults to mono. With the sound mix set to stereo, recording a video clip (holding the Capture button) crashes the Switch's system recorder and Atmosphère. Recording works fine in mono.
Installation
No ROMs or copyrighted game files are included. You must supply your own MAME von ROM set.

Virtual-On-NX 1.1.0
Changes
- Mono sound is now the default. It can still be switched to stereo in the
+and-menu (see the warning below). - Test and service switches moved to Minus + stick click. Clicking the left stick on its own used to open the test menu by accident.
- Minus + L3 = Test (opens the test menu, and selects inside it)
- Minus + R3 = Service (moves the cursor in the test menu)
- To leave the test menu, move to EXIT with Minus + R3 and select it with Minus + L3.
- New icon.
⚠️ Stereo and video recording
With the sound mix set to stereo, recording a video clip (holding the Capture button) crashes the Switch's system recorder and Atmosphère. The game itself is unaffected, and recording works fine in mono. If you use stereo, don't record clips, or switch back to mono first.
Recommended
- CPU overclock: 1428 MHz (for example with sys-clk).

Virtual-On-NX 1.0.0
The first release of Virtual-On-NX: a native Nintendo Switch port of Cyber Troopers Virtual-On (Sega Model 2B arcade), built by static recompilation.
Tested on hardware: locked 57.52 FPS with full sound and twin-stick controls.
Features
- Static recompilation: the i960 game program and the sound 68000 program are translated to native ARM64 code.
- SHARC coprocessor: the Model 2B ADSP-21062 geometry DSP runs on demand behind its FIFOs.
- SCSP sound with a working reverb DSP.
- Threaded renderer and deadline frame pacing.
- In-game menu (
+and-together): frame pacing, performance overlay, test/service switches, sound mix, mute.
Installation
No ROMs or copyrighted game files are included. You must supply your own MAME von ROM set.

Known issue
- Recording a video clip with the sound mix set to stereo crashes the system recorder and Atmosphère. Mono works; fixed by default in v1.1.0, which uses mono.
