Ensure that our source spreadsheet
- Works for any year (include a "year" field)
- Has a field for the QGIS layer name so we can cross-reference
- Has a unique "timewalk_id" that we generate in the form "tw_nyc_1000001" (7 digits)
- Use only lower-case in file names to keep things consistent
- Name the spreadsheet something like "TimeWalk_Sources"
In QGIS:
- Make sure every layer (whether raster or vector) has a URL link to the TimeWalk_Sources spreadsheet (in the Metadata field?)
- Use only lower-case names
- Clean up the names of the layers so they are consistently in the form...
[year]-[city]-[type (map, image, vectors, labels)]-[useful_name]-[timewalk_id]
example: 1782-nyc-map-british_headquarters_map-tw_nyc_1000001
Seems like the only "types" should be map, image, vectors, or labels (unless I've missed something). Let's stick with those. No need to say "raster" since maps and images are both raster-based. No need to say "geo-referenced" or any of that since they all will be geo-referenced!
