Flashing TitanLRS Firmware

This page describes how Titan Dynamics users can flash TitanLRS main firmware and TitanLRS-Backpack firmware using the Titan Web Flasher. The Titan Web Flasher replaces the need to use the ExpressLRS Configurator -> LOCAL tab to build and install TitanLRS.

Why Use the Titan Web Flasher

The Titan Web Flasher is a customized, production-ready fork of the ExpressLRS web flasher with several Titan Dynamics enhancements:

  • Pulls firmware binaries directly from Titan Dynamics GitHub releases for both TitanLRS and TitanLRS-Backpack.
  • Updated UI with Titan Dynamics branding.
  • Improved mobile responsiveness for field use.
  • Clickable logo that returns to the landing page.
  • A "Done" button at the end of the wizard for quick return to the landing page.

Flashing Flow Overview

The web flasher uses a four-step wizard:

  1. Firmware selection
  2. Hardware selection
  3. Options configuration
  4. Flashing

You can flash:

  • Main firmware: Transmitters and receivers
  • Backpack firmware: Transmitter Backpack or Backpack Receiver

Step 1: Open the Titan Web Flasher

  1. Open a browser and navigate to https://titan-dynamics.github.io/titan-web-flasher/
  2. The landing page shows two columns: Main Firmware and Backpack Firmware.

Step 2: Choose Firmware Family

Main Firmware

Select one of:

  • Transmitter
  • Receiver

This path installs the primary TitanLRS firmware onto the main TX or RX hardware.

Backpack Firmware

Select one of:

  • Transmitter Backpack
  • Backpack Receiver

This path installs firmware onto the Backpack module.

Step 3: Hardware Selection

In the Hardware step:

  1. Select Firmware Version. E.g. for flashing the TD Web-Based LUA release, select 4.0.0-TD for the main firmware, and 1.6.0-TD for the Backpack.
  2. Select Hardware Vendor. E.g. RadioMaster for a RM Nomad TX.
  3. Select Radio Frequency. E.g. Dual 2.4GHz/900MHz Transmitter for a RM Nomad TX.
  4. Select the exact Hardware Target. E.g. RadioMaster Nomad 2.4/900 TX for a RM Nomad TX.

Step 4: Configure Options

In the Options step:

  1. Enter a Binding Phrase. Use the same phrase across all devices that should bind together.
  2. Select Region and Regulatory Domain (Main firmware only). E.g. for a RM Nomad, in the US region, choose FCC and FCC915.
  3. (OPTIONAL) Enter Home WiFi SSID and password. Leave black if you plan to make use of the custom SSID access poin configuration in TitanLRS-Backpack.
  4. Choose a Flashing Method from the dropdown. If you are flashing via USB connection (or FTDI for receivers), select Serial UART and connect the USB between the computer and the hardware (TX or FTDI).

Step 5: Flashing

Proceed to the Flashing step. The exact workflow depends on the flashing method you selected.

Option A: Serial UART / Passthrough

  1. Make sure the device is connected for the required flashing mode:
    • UART: Connect to TX or FTDI via USB.
    • Backpack passthrough: Connect to TX via USB.
    • Betaflight passthrough: connect the flight controller via USB.
    • EdgeTX passthrough: connect the handset via USB, enable passthrough in the EdgeTX menu popup.
  2. Click Connect and select the serial device in the popup window.
  3. Follow the prompts shown in the wizard.
  4. Click Flash when the button becomes enabled.
  5. Wait for the progress ring to reach 100% and the Done step to appear.
Flashing progress

Click Done once flashing is complete to return to the main landing page.

Option B: Local Download / WiFi Update

  1. Select Local Download or WiFi as the flashing method.
  2. Click Download to generate the firmware file(s).
  3. Put the device into WiFi update mode.
  4. Connect to the device WiFi and open its update page in the browser (http://10.0.0.1/).
  5. Upload the generated file:
    • firmware.bin for standard ESP32 targets.
    • firmware.bin.gz for ESP8285 targets (do not unzip the file).
Download step

Click Done to return to the main landing page.

Step 6: Finish

When flashing completes:

  • Click Done to return to the landing page.
  • Use Flash Another if you need to flash multiple devices in sequence.

Recommended Flashing Order (TX with Backpack)

For modules with an integrated Backpack:

  1. Flash Transmitter Backpack firmware first.
  2. Flash Transmitter main firmware second.

Use the same Binding Phrase for both so the system binds correctly.

Notes

  • The TitanLRS 4.0.0-TD release has been updated with the stable changes from the upstream ELRS 4.0.0 release. This can safely be used on all hardware (transmitters and receivers). To confirm if your hardware is running the TitanLRS fork, look for 4.0.0-TD anywhere where the version string is shown (Web LUA, handset LUA, Web UI).
  • For ESP8285 targets, always use the firmware.bin.gz file exactly as generated, do not extract.
  • The Titan Web Flasher uses release builds from the Titan Dynamics repositories, so no local cloning or the ExpressLRS Configurator LOCAL tab is needed.
