v2.0.1
- Works with only the Claude app. Spend Bar now finds the copy of Claude Code the Claude app keeps, so it no longer says "Claude Code isn't installed" when the app is there.
- The shortcut opens the panel even when macOS hides the icon. With a full menu bar, or the icon under the notch, the panel now opens at the top right of the screen.
v2.0.0
After updating: install Claude Code or the Claude app if you haven't, sign in once with claude auth login, then open the panel and press Connect. Spend Bar now reads usage through your own Claude Code.
- No more session keys. Your old key is deleted from the Keychain; the app never holds a login.
- Several Claude Code profiles show up as accounts; add others in Settings → Account.
- Faster refresh while the panel is open. Refresh every 1, 5 or 15 minutes.
- Clearer problems: offline, Anthropic busy, Claude Code too old or signed out — each says what happened and what to do, and Open Terminal types the sign-in command for you.
- Full mode shows the weekly limit on a subscription.
v1.7.0
A narrower menu bar
Choose how much room the reading takes in the menu bar. On a MacBook with a notch, a wide reading pushed other apps' icons out of sight.
- Four styles. Open Settings, then Menu bar, and pick one: Full
$478.20 / $1000, Compact$478 / 1k, Minimal$478, or Mark, which shows only the mark. Each row shows your own reading in that style and how wide it is. - Works on subscriptions too. There the styles read
42% · 18%(session and weekly),42%,42, or the mark alone. - Nothing changes until you choose. Dollar plans keep
$478.20 / $1000and subscriptions keep42%. The bar changes as soon as you pick, and your choice is kept across relaunches. - Problems still show. With Mark, the 🔑,
⚠️ and$—signs still appear when something needs attention.
v1.6.0
Every Claude Code session, priced
The panel now has a Sessions list: the Claude Code sessions on this Mac, from both the terminal and the desktop app, each with what it cost.
- See where the money went. Each session shows its last activity and its cost, and a green dot marks one that is working right now. On a dollar plan the list ends with Unattributed: what claude.ai billed that no local session explains, such as claude.ai chat or other machines. On a subscription it shows what the same tokens would cost at API rates.
- Filter and sort. The Desktop, CLI and Runs chips each show or hide their own kind of session, in any mix. The sort menu orders the list by Recent, Cost or Name. The footer total covers exactly what is shown, and your choice is kept across relaunches.
- Eval runs sit under the session that started them. A batch of
claude -pruns is listed under the session that launched it, and folds to one line such as "12 more headless · $6.75" instead of forty rows. - Closer to Claude Code's own numbers. Wherever Claude Code records a session's total, including its side calls, the panel uses that total instead of estimating from tokens.
- Each organisation shows only its own sessions. A team subscription and a dollar-limit org no longer mix their sessions or their totals.
- A smoother start. The menu bar animates until the first reading arrives, instead of flashing the session-key prompt.
v1.5.3
- The dollar spend-limit meter now uses the session colour, teal.
v1.5.2
- Updates have their own row in settings, with Check Now.
v1.5.1
- The dollar spend-limit meter is now clay, the Claude accent.
v1.5.0
Claude Spend Bar 1.4.3
- Sign out replaces Clear cookies: removes the key from the Keychain and forgets the account.
- The connect dialog asks for the Cookie value its guide produces; only the sessionKey inside is kept.
- The session key is no longer written to disk: the cookie is memory-only and HttpOnly.
- A poll for an org you just left can no longer land in the new org's reading or history, and a poll that never answers no longer stops polling.
- The global shortcut survives leaving settings mid-recording.
v1.4.2
Rounded panel corners, and a rebuilt inside.
- The panel's corners no longer show a faint square outline on macOS 26.
- Under the hood the app now runs on a single state store with tested rules for polling, failure grace and when the panel redraws. Everything else behaves as in 1.4.1, and every setting and the stored key carry over.
