A redesigned viewer, picture controls, the Switch's screen off while you stream, and lower latency.

PC viewer

  • New design: a home screen that says what it is waiting for, and one Settings panel (Esc or the gear icon) with every option - connection, display, upscaling, decoding, picture, sound, recording - with the mouse or the arrow keys. The shortcuts still work; Esc now opens Settings (close the window to quit).
  • Picture controls: brightness, contrast, saturation, gamma and sharpness (P opens them). Nothing runs at the defaults; recordings are not affected.
  • Recording timer: "REC 1:23" in the corner while you record.
  • Hardware decoding: decoding on the graphics card - about 5 ms less latency in busy scenes and no keyframe stutter. On by default on Linux built from source (VAAPI / NVDEC). On Windows (D3D11VA) and macOS (VideoToolbox) it is still being tested: it is off there - turn on Hardware decoding (beta) in Settings and tell us if the stats overlay (F3) says GPU next to "decoder".
  • Keys work with non-Latin keyboard layouts, the window never opens bigger than the screen, Retina on macOS (from DiM3NT0R's PR #12).

Console

  • Screen off while streaming (the overlay and the app): the Switch's screen goes dark while you play on the PC and comes back the moment the stream stops - HOME, a manual, or closing the viewer (the viewer now says goodbye over USB, so that is instant).
  • Lower latency at 1080p: a finished frame is sent while the console waits for the next one (DiM3NT0R, PR #12) - measured 3-4 ms less on the console, a slightly higher frame rate and lower worst frames.

Thanks DiM3NT0R and reirahul.

Installing / updating: unzip switch-frame-tap-0.7.12-switch.zip over the SD card root and reboot (settings are kept), and get the viewer for your PC: -windows-viewer.zip, -linux.tar.gz, or -macos-arm64.zip / -macos-x86_64.zip (macOS 12+; not signed by Apple, so the first time right-click it and choose Open). Also on the Homebrew App Store.
