Release list
openExpress 0.6.4
Changes
- Devices in mass-storage mode, such as the Varia RTL515, now work in the Flatpak: the sandbox can see removable drives under /run/media and /media (new permission, documented in the README).
- The command line finds a mass-storage device by itself;
--pathis only for a folder with no device attached. Commands that do not apply to such a device say so. - The device report tells whether the Flatpak came from the openExpress repository or from a bundle, with its build commit.
- The server status popover shows relative times, shows the state only when something is wrong, and then offers Try Again.
- A remembered device's page no longer closes by itself shortly after the window starts.
- Tiles on the start page have one width in every section and are centred; the info line of a USB drive no longer shows its mount path.
- Internal: the start page keeps one list of tiles and one picture store.

openExpress 0.6.3
Changes
- Remembered and account-only devices show their picture (or a kind icon) on the device page instead of the app icon.
- Devices on the start page are listed in a stable order: connected first, then by name.
- The tile icon falls back to the model name when the account gives no device kind (Venu 2 shows a watch).
- One busy indicator per task: a spinner until the first progress report, then the progress bar.
- A map with a missing file or an invalid checksum says which, has no Install button, and is refused in the dry run too.
- Readable names for training status, primary training device and Garmin Coach files in sync summaries; "settings change log" for type 41.
- Device pictures are loaded without GdkPixbuf.

openExpress 0.6.2
Fixes
- Language of Garmin's pages. The sign-in page, request headers and the Connect IQ store now follow the system language instead of being fixed to Polish; a language chosen in Preferences takes precedence (reported in #5).
- Waiting for Garmin's servers. While the program waits for Garmin's servers during a sync, the progress bar keeps moving and after a while says that this can take a few minutes.
Install

openExpress 0.6.1
A failed write over MTP no longer deletes the previous firmware or map file on the device when the copy failed before the device was touched, for example because the device was busy or opened in a file manager. The file is removed only with evidence that it was actually being replaced. Reported in an external review.

openExpress 0.6.0
What's new
- Start page. Your devices as tiles: those connected now, those seen on this computer before and those on your Garmin account, each with its picture, or an icon of its kind until the picture is known. A section of seven or more devices becomes a list. With exactly one device connected, its page opens straight away; a device that is not connected opens a read-only view.
- Several devices at once. With more than one device connected you choose one on the start page instead of getting an error.
- Devices in mass storage mode (such as the Varia RTL515) open in the window of the version from source: their information and software updates. Tested on the Varia RTL515; reports from other mass-storage devices are welcome. The Flatpak cannot open drives yet and says so.
- Command line:
openexpress deviceslists the devices seen on this computer, openexpress devices --forget Nforgets one;openexpress cacheshows how much space the cache takes and--clearempties it (also in Preferences → Storage). - About openExpress links to a page where you can support the project (Buy Me a Coffee).
Fixes
From an external review:
- A failed write no longer deletes the previous firmware or map file on the device.
- A missing or malformed checksum no longer skips the verification of a download.
- All downloads use HTTPS.
- Names from the device or from Garmin's servers can no longer make files be written outside the backup or cache folders.
Also: Refresh asks Garmin's map and update servers once instead of twice.
Install
flatpak install --user openexpress-0.6.0.flatpakSHA-256: df091db22e8e16cd4f36c676daf24cd30db105bfba13cb0f16f1b0188b1c4688
openExpress 0.5.2
Install: download openexpress-0.5.2.flatpak below, then run
flatpak install --user openexpress-0.5.2.flatpak. Needs Flatpak 1.16 or newer.
Setup reads a few values from the official Garmin Express installer (you download it from
Garmin; openExpress never runs it). See the README for details.
Verify the download (optional):
sha256sum openexpress-0.5.2.flatpak should print the SHA-256 below.
Note: This version works with Garmin devices in USB MTP mode (e.g. fēnix 8, Edge 1050).
Devices that connect as a USB drive instead (mass storage mode, such as the Varia RTL515)
are not yet opened by the window — only the command line reads them, with --path. Window
support is coming in the next release.
Changes in 0.5.2:
- On the command line, the plan of a map installation (without --apply) lists the files in the order they are written: smallest first.
- Error messages after a network failure no longer include the sign-in ticket.
- New folders for settings, data and the log are readable only by their owner.

openExpress 0.5.1
- When the device refuses a map's unlock file, writing it is tried up to six times in all, five seconds apart, as Garmin Express does; if it still fails, the message says what to do.
- The state of Garmin's servers says "No connection" when nothing has answered since the last good answer, instead of blaming Garmin's servers.
- A refusal from the update and map server, which needs no sign-in, no longer shows as an expired sign-in or a wrong clock; a Connect IQ store refusal caused by the computer's clock shows as a wrong clock.
- Checking an uploaded activity now counts in the state of Garmin's servers, and the popover shows the date of an answer from another day when it is opened.

openExpress 0.5.0
- Maps are written to the device smallest first, as Garmin Express does; a file that other maps share is never deleted after a failed write.
- Removing a map never deletes files that other installed maps still use.
- A map that has been copied or removed shows as waiting until the device is unplugged, and cannot be installed twice.
- At the bottom of the side panel, the state of Garmin's servers opens a popover with each service, its server and when it last answered.

openExpress 0.4.14
- The progress bar now moves while maps and software updates download, not only while they are copied to the device.
SHA-256 of openexpress-0.4.14.flatpak: 804d14c8f2f792d030d96b2a49096d9594038ffd780f2e036968851e954e560c
openExpress 0.4.13
- The last sync is remembered for each device; syncing a second device no longer hides the first one's.
- After unplugging the device, the window shows "Connect your device" at once.
- The two versions of an update ("23.39 → 23.40") stay on one line.
- The log names the updates Garmin offers, and the window is logged as the window.
