Converting to Linux (Ubuntu 24.04 LTS)

This document describes the steps taken to convert Amical Desktop to run on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, as well as Linux-specific limitations and operational changes.

Linux-specific Support and Restrictions

1) Global Shortcuts Not Available on Wayland

  • Electron's globalShortcut is effectively unavailable on Wayland.
  • In a Wayland environment, Start/Stop Recording with Shortcuts is unavailable.
  • Support: On Linux, widget operation (clicking) is assumed.
  • In an X11 session, globalShortcut can be used, but Win/Ctrl combinations are limited.

2) Native Bridge doesn't work on Linux

  • Because there is no native helper on Linux,
  • shortcut sync/retrieve
  • Accessibility Context
  • pasteText
  • system audio mute/restore

and other functions are not available.

  • Added a guard to prevent exceptions.

3) Copying to the Clipboard

  • On Linux, change to Clipboard Copy instead of using pasteText.
  • Play a notification sound after copying is complete (using cvlc).

4) Chrome sandbox

  • After installing with deb, be sure to run the following:
sudo chown root:root /usr/lib/amical-desktop/chrome-sandbox
sudo chmod 4755 /usr/lib/amical-desktop/chrome-sandbox

5) Moving widgets on Wayland

  • Because the CSS -webkit-app-region: drag often doesn't work,

Changed to a manual drag implementation (updating window coordinates via tRPC).

Linux特有の対応・制限事項

1) Wayland でのグローバルショートカット不可

  • Electron の globalShortcut は Wayland 上で実質利用不可。
  • Wayland 環境では ショートカットで録音開始/停止が使えない。
  • 対応: Linux ではウィジェット操作（クリック）を前提に運用。
  • X11 セッションなら globalShortcut を使えるが、Win/Ctrl 系組み合わせには制限がある。

2) Native Bridge が Linux で動かない

  • Linux では native helper が存在しないため、
    • ショートカット同期/取得
    • Accessibility Context
    • pasteText
    • system audio mute/restore
      などが使えない。
  • 例外が出ないように guard を追加。

3) Clipboard へのコピー運用

  • Linux では pasteText を使わず クリップボードコピーに変更。
  • コピー完了後、通知音を鳴らす（cvlc を利用）。

4) Chrome sandbox

  • deb でインストールした後、以下を必ず実行: 
    sudo chown root:root /usr/lib/amical-desktop/chrome-sandbox
sudo chmod 4755 /usr/lib/amical-desktop/chrome-sandbox

5) Wayland でのウィジェット移動

  • CSS の -webkit-app-region: drag が効かないことが多いため、
    手動ドラッグ実装（tRPC でウィンドウ座標を更新）に変更。
