Release Notes

This release includes the following new features and improvements:

New Features

Settings Improvements

  • New Tokens tab with thinking, system prompt config
  • API and URL fields swapped to cause less confusion when entering credentials

System Prompt Feature

  • The system prompt can be disabled in settings under the Tokens tab, but is enabled by default
  • The system prompt can be edited in settings under the Tokens tab
  • A system message containing the prompt will be prepended to the originating user query
  • System prompts are saved to the conversation history and sent to the AI as the initial message
  • The system prompts are associated with the current profile and stored alongside it in userdata profiles.json
  • System prompts are supported by all three current adapters, Anthropic, Google and OpenAI

Extended Reasoning Support

  • Anthropic and Google adapters now support reasoning budgets
  • Thinking can be disabled for these two specific providers
  • By default, thinking is enabled for both providers if the model supports reasoning (Claude 3.7+, Gemini 2.5+)
  • Thinking budgets are configurable in the Tokens tab of the settings modal
  • Gemini's thoughts may contain a summary and this replaces the "Thought Process" title in the dropdown

Known Issues

  • Currently, there is no support for upgrading profiles or any user data for that matter, so it is recommended to discard old configuration files and chat database when updating from a previous version of SimpleChatJS
