This page documents all gameplay changes on TNS, including mods, datapacks, and game rules.
Tip
You do not need to install anything to play on TNS. All these changes are server-side only. However, for the optimal experience I would recommend at least downloading Simple Voice Chat (Fabric or Neoforge) for an in-game voice chat to communicate with other players.

TNS runs on a Fabric server. We aim to be fully vanilla compatible so you may connect to TNS using pure vanilla, Fabric, Neoforge, or any other vanilla compatible client you like! However, if you do run with mods it is recommended that you use Fabric as that will likely provide the smoothest experience, and is what most of our players use and can help with.
There is a custom map hand painted by me with some augmentation from Terralith.
Our server uses Simple Voice Chat for an in game voice chat. This mod also enables us to use custom music discs and goat horns. Many players use this mod and you are highly encouraged to as well (if you feel comfortable being in a voice chat, of course)!
We use Armor Stand Editor by Patbox, instead of the 'book' datapack you may have seen on the Hermitcraft server. We have found that this mod generally works better and has an easier to use UI, once you figure out how to use it. The following video from the mod's authors provides an overview on how to use it:

Tip
Shift+Scroll to get more precise armor stand movement.
TNS is using Farmer's Delight for Season 15. This is a mostly decorative mod that is focused on food and farming. You do not need to install this mod or engage with it in any way if you do not want to.
If you are on a high ping connection, then it may be helpful to install Polymer and Polymer Quality of Life as that will help improve some of the weird lagginess that might result from Polymer's slightly janky setup.
If you want to create a shop that is protected from potential thieves and griefers, it is highly recommended that you utilise the mods Universal Shops and Hey That's Mine (HTM). These mods will allow you to create shops using Shop Blocks (crafting recipe below), and the attach them to chests protected by HTM. To claim a chest with HTM, use the command /htm set PRIVATE then left click on the chest to claim it. You can also use /htm set KEY to created chests that can be opened by anyone with the right key, so you can share a chest amongst trusted friends.
You are also permitted to claim the chests in your base using HTM, if you want extra security for your items. However, all chests you place are public by default. Furthermore, claiming chests that do not belong to you can be considered a form of griefing. Admins will always be able to bypass these protections.
These are some of the other mods on the server that you may optionally install on your client.
- Squaremap for an online map you can view in your web browser: http://mc.totallynotsuspicious.com:25566/
- Image2Map: Lets you turn any image into a map item! https://modrinth.com/mod/image2map
- Just Enough Items (JEI)
- Jade
- Voxy
- By community vote, this replaces Distant Horizons for Season 15.
- You will also need to install Voxy Server for this to work.
- Servux (provides structure bounding box data to MiniHUD)
Note that in 1.21.11+ gamerule names changed substantially, you may need to read up on the new gamerules on the Minecraft wiki here: https://minecraft.wiki/w/Game_rule
-
fire_spread_radius_around_player: 0 (fire tick is 0FF) -
players_sleeping_percentage: 25 -
max_minecart_speed: 16 -
spawn_phantoms: false (membranes drop from bats) -
respawn_radius: 0
We also use some custom game rules from Carpet Mod and Mini Tweaks. These are as follows:
-
huskSpawningInTemples: true -
noCreeperBlockBreaking: true- Note that Creepers still do damage, but they do not destroy blocks.
We use two experiments: Villager Trade Rebalance and Minecart Improvements. It is highly recommended that you read up on those pages to get a feel for whats changed. Note that we set the maximum minecart speed to 16, a bit higher than it normally allows.
To compensate for the lower maximum enchantment levels of the trade rebalance, we have eliminated the cost scaling of Anvils. This means that you can use the same items in an anvil repeatedly for repairs and enchanting and so on, and the costs will not increase!
- Datapacks:
- Anti Enderman Grief
- Double Shulker Shells
- More Mob Heads
- Player Head Drops
- Silence Mobs
- AFK Display
- Bat Membranes

- Recipes
We also have a few custom changes on the server, all of which are provided in this very GitHub repository! However, of course not all of you are inclined towards coding so this section provides a rundown of the changes.
A Happy Ghast Treat can be crafted shapelessly with a Snowball, Sugar, and an Amethyst Shard. When you feed this treat to a Happy Ghast it will give it a temporary speed boost. However, you can also craft up to 5 of these treats with a book to create an Air Speed Enchanted Book (the more treats you use, the higher the level of the book will be). When this book is applied to the Happy Ghast Harness, it will increase the Happy Ghast speed when worn. At max level this is likely faster than Elytra!
- Stair and Trapdoor recipes now yield 6 items instead of 4 and 2, respectively
- Craft Glow Lichen from Vines and Glow Ink Sac
- Quartz Blocks can be unpacked to 4 Quartz
- Red Sand can be crafted from Sand and Redstone
- Sponge can be crafted using the recipe below:
- Anvils do not scale their costs with repeated usage
- Husks drop sand
- Combine this fact with Husks spawning in temples to create some powerful sand farms!
- You can create a custom Tree banner pattern by crafting paper with any sapling
- When a Sculk Catalyst creates a Sculk Shrieker, it will also drop an Echo Shard
- The Drowned is affected by the Impaling enchantment
- You can get a link to this GitHub repo at any time with the command
