Release list
Rails 0.1.1-dev.6
Rails 0.1.1-dev.6
Includes Rails manager 0.0.125 and Tiles 0.2.0, with a redesigned Tiles configurator and more complete tiling behavior.
Tiles
The configurator follows your physical monitor arrangement, with rounded tile previews, accurate proportions, and quieter Monitor 1/2/3 labels. Hover a tile and use the + buttons to add rows or columns. Right-click to delete a row or column. Drag dividers to adjust proportions, or use the circular reset arrow to restore equal spacing without changing tile counts.
Eligible windows on enabled monitors now tile automatically by default. Shared divider handles cover the space between windows and adjacent resize borders. Allow floating windows is an optional setting; when enabled, hold Shift while dragging or resizing to release a tiled window. Padding at monitor edges and spacing between tiles are separate settings, both supporting zero padding.
Tiles remains disabled until you enable it. Configure and enable the monitors you want to tile. Application minimum sizes are respected; oversized windows can span adjacent tiles. Fullscreen windows, owned dialogs, and other unsupported windows remain excluded.
Rails
Rails remembers its monitor, position, size, and maximized state across restarts and switches between Maintainer branches and the installed version. Maintainer mode also includes PowerShell discovery improvements for script-based features.
This signed Dev installer is for testing. Existing Rails settings are preserved. If an existing installation retains Beta or Stable, choose Dev on the Updates page to receive subsequent Dev updates. Other bundled feature revisions are unchanged from Dev.5.
Validation: 915 compiled manager assertions plus ownership, branch safety, and executable-feature checks passed. Tiles geometry, isolated native-window integration, settings, ownership, and shutdown checks passed. This release does not claim Stable acceptance.
Rails 0.1.1-dev.5
Rails 0.1.1-dev.5
Installed Rails now includes Maintainer mode for testing private GitHub source branches through the same Rails installation and shortcuts.
- Open Updates → Maintainer mode → Connect GitHub. Install Git from that window first if needed.
- Select ben/shortcut-improvements and choose Build and switch. The first build downloads the pinned .NET SDK; subsequent branch builds run locally without signing or release packaging.
- In Maintainer mode, use Refresh Rails and the individual feature branch selectors to test source revisions.
- Choose Maintainer mode → Use installed release to return to packaged Dev, Beta or Stable updates.
- Hold Shift while opening the installed Rails shortcut to bypass a source build if recovery is needed.
Settings are preserved and backed up before switching. Source/build caches stay in Local AppData, separate from the installation and Documents. GitHub repository access is required; Rails does not include private source or credentials in its installer.
All feature revisions, including Tiles, are unchanged from Dev.4. This update changes the Rails manager only. The compiled manager checks and immutable source-build validation pass; the first GitHub sign-in and installed-to-source switch are ready for interactive testing.
Rails 0.1.1-dev.4
Rails 0.1.1-dev.4
Adds Stations Upgrade as a separate, disabled-by-default feature under Window management. This packages Dustin’s codex/rosette-waterwheel work from the rails-stations-upgrade repository, including Rosette tools, App Wheel, audio controls, layouts, Spaces and Lantern.
Turn off Stations before enabling Stations Upgrade. The two alternatives share a production lock so they cannot install competing input hooks. Rails saves their settings separately; internal Stations layouts and favorites remain shared for continuity. The original Stations feature remains available at its existing version.
Includes Dustin’s Rails audio-output device dropdown support. Manifest/Gantry Rosette tools require those companion features to be installed and enabled; they are not bundled in this Dev suite.
Also includes Tiles and its Scroll Sizer/Tunnel coordination from Dev 3: per-monitor grids up to 3×2 landscape or 2×3 portrait, shared resize handles, minimum-size constraints and Shift-drop to float. Configure Tiles per monitor before enabling it.
Versions: Rails manager 0.0.119; Stations Upgrade 0.0.148; Stations 0.0.146; Tiles 0.1.0; Scroll Sizer 0.3.15; Tunnel 0.2.9.
Compiled Rails checks, audio-output enumeration, feature settings/lifecycle checks and sequential fan/render regression tests passed. Real incoming notifications, physical gestures, games, mixed DPI and real audio-device switching still require interactive testing. This is an experimental Dev release.
Rails 0.1.1-dev.3
Rails 0.1.1-dev.3
Adds Tiles, an independent, opt-in window tiling feature.
- Choose a saved grid for each monitor: up to 3 columns by 2 rows in landscape, or 2 columns by 3 rows in portrait.
- Drop a moved window over a tile to snap it into place. Multiple windows can share a tile; hold Shift when dropping to leave it floating.
- Drag the small handles between occupied tiles to resize their rows or columns together. Divider proportions are saved.
- Minimum window sizes constrain divider movement. Windows that cannot fit remain floating; rejected resize batches restore their previous positions.
- Tunnel yields automatic monitor sizing on Tiles-enabled displays, and Scroll Sizer uses the Tiles divider there instead of showing a second half-screen handle.
After updating, open Tiles under Window sizing & layout. Configure Tiles per monitor, save the layouts, apply settings, and enable the feature. Existing windows are not rearranged automatically.
Includes Rails manager 0.0.118, Tiles 0.1.0, Scroll Sizer 0.3.15 and Tunnel 0.2.9. Stations, App Depot and Approach are unchanged.
This is a Dev prototype. Automated geometry, rollback, UI and isolated lifecycle checks passed. Interactive acceptance with real applications, custom title bars, mixed-DPI monitors and monitor reconnection remains pending before Stable promotion.
Rails 0.1.1-dev.2
Rails 0.1.1-dev.2
Signed Dev update-delivery verification. The application and feature source revisions are unchanged from Dev.1.
- Verifies the signed Dev-to-Dev delta update and reuse of unchanged feature build outputs.
- Rails and all five features continue to update through the installed application.
- Your settings and saved Dev channel remain in place after restarting.
For a fresh installation, run the Dev installer once. If Rails was already installed, confirm Updates > Release channel is Dev. Leave Download updates automatically enabled, then choose Restart Rails when an update is ready. No repeated installer downloads are needed for later Dev updates.
This is an experimental Dev release for daily testing. Switching to Beta or Stable waits for a newer version on that channel rather than downgrading.
Rails 0.1.1-dev.1
Rails 0.1.1-dev.1
Rails now offers Stable, Beta and Dev update channels in the installed application.
- Install once, select Dev under Updates, and receive Rails and feature updates through the app.
- Automatic downloads and Restart Rails preserve your settings and enabled features.
- The Dev build pipeline retains signing and packaged update checks while reusing unchanged feature builds and avoiding duplicate release jobs.
- All five features and the smaller shared .NET runtime are included. No Git, PowerShell installation or .NET installation is required.
Fresh installations default to Dev. If updating an existing Rails installation, its saved channel is preserved; select Dev under Updates. Switching to Beta or Stable waits for a newer version on that channel and does not downgrade your installation.
This is an experimental Dev release for daily testing, not a Stable release. Report any application or update problems through Feedback.
Rails 0.1.0-beta.3
Rails 0.1.0-beta.3
Smaller installation
Rails and its five features now share one private .NET runtime. Each feature remains a separate application with its own settings and lifecycle. Standalone feature development builds remain self-contained.
The installer is approximately 72% smaller than beta.1. Rails includes the required runtime; no separate .NET installation is needed. This first update reorganizes the runtime files, so its download is larger than the earlier version-only Tunnel test.
Updates page
- Progress appears only while downloading, followed by a separate Preparing status.
- Release notes use Rails' rounded styling and themed scrollbar and fill the remaining page.
- Current release notes remain available after restarting, including offline.
Feature versions and settings are unchanged. After updating, confirm your enabled features and preferences. This remains a testing Beta; full interactive acceptance is ongoing.
Rails 0.1.0-beta.2
Rails 0.1.0-beta.2
Beta update-delivery test: Tunnel is now version 0.2.8.
This is a version-only Tunnel update to verify download, restart, settings preservation and feature-version reporting through the installed Rails Updates page. Tunnel behavior is unchanged. Rails and the other four features use the same source revisions as beta.1.
In Rails, open Updates, select Beta, choose Check now, then Download and Restart Rails. After restarting, the Updates page should show 0.1.0-beta.2 and Tunnel should show 0.2.8. Existing preferences should remain intact.
This is an installation/update testing prerelease; full interactive acceptance is still in progress.
Rails 0.1.0-beta.1
Rails 0.1.0-beta.1
First signed Windows x64 installer for the C# Rails application.
- Bundles Stations, Scroll Sizer, Tunnel, App Depot, and Approach for use without Git or private repository access.
- Installs for the current user outside Documents and OneDrive.
- Adds an Updates page with Stable/Beta channels, download progress, and an explicit restart to apply updates.
- Offers optional startup at Windows sign-in.
- Keeps user settings separate from application updates and offers import from an existing portable settings file.
Included versions: Rails manager 0.0.114, Stations 0.0.146, Scroll Sizer 0.3.14, Tunnel 0.2.7, App Depot 0.1.0, Approach 0.1.0.
This is a testing beta. Please test installation, your usual gestures and shortcuts, startup, and settings persistence. Updates become available when a newer release is published. The Stable channel will become useful once a Stable release is available.
