Modex v0.0.7

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 05 Oct 19:23
v0.0.7
7c6c76b

What’s new

  • Pair once, reconnect automatically. Companion build 4 remembers its Mac across restarts and uses pinned local discovery when its address changes. Temporary outages keep pairing; Mac revocation removes access. Copy pairing link is available beside the QR code.

  • Official Modex identity. The new pink mark appears throughout the desktop app, Dock, installer, companion app, and website.

  • Full-width walkthrough. Play on the website opens an immersive presentation with pause, resume, replay, and keyboard dismissal.

  • Update notifications. A compact banner announces newer stable Mac releases, with release notes and a download link. It checks at launch, hourly while visible, and when you return to the app. Dismissal remembers that version; a later release appears again.

  • A polished update banner. Clearer hierarchy, a download icon, larger controls, keyboard focus, reduced-motion support, and a layout verified at the minimum window size in both themes.

  • OpenCoven theme. Choose charcoal/black surfaces with a purple accent in Settings → General, alongside the default Jev midnight-blue/pink theme.

  • Clearer CLI connections. Separate Codex and Claude account cards, visible sign-in states, cancellation, and copyable terminal-login recovery. Missing executables have an actionable remedy.

  • Independent Modex branding. Correct product attribution, Powered by Jev integration credit, and a prominent GitHub link on the landing page. Vercel builds only the website.

  • Automatic CLI discovery. Modex finds Claude Code and Codex through your login PATH and common installation locations. Optional executable overrides are verified before saving. This fixes command strings such as claude --dangerously-skip-permissions being treated as executable filenames; clear that old override to use automatic discovery.

  • Approval-rule previews. The merged editor and receipts are included. Rules can be previewed, while the live approval gate remains off.

Upgrade from v0.0.6 or earlier

Install this release manually once to enable future update banners. Older versions were built before the banner existed.

Download the Apple Silicon DMG, quit Modex, and replace the app in Applications. Projects, threads, and preferences remain in ~/.modex. Downloads and installation remain manual; the banner opens the release page.

Verified Mac downloads

The app and DMG are Developer ID signed by Soul Protocol LLC, notarized by Apple, and stapled. The ZIP contains the same notarized app. Check SHA256SUMS.txt and the attached verification log for download verification.

v0.0.6
3498616

Modex v0.0.6

A refined dark workspace with near-black blue surfaces, pink accents, clearer typography, and a calmer composer.

New

  • Sign in from Settings. Connect Claude through its CLI login, or authorize ChatGPT for account-isolated Codex sessions. Coding turns stay in the Claude and Codex CLIs.
  • Recover failed turns. Error cards offer actionable remedies, debug details, and Retry without duplicating your message.
  • iPhone companion preview. Pair Modex Companion with the running Mac app on the same network to view threads, send follow-ups, and approve or deny one request. Pairing uses pinned HTTPS and device Keychain storage. The listener is off until you enable it.
  • Streamer Mode. Redact sensitive transcript content while sharing your screen.

Fixes and refinements

  • Preserve newer composer drafts when a send fails; clear stale views when a project is removed.
  • Keep Changes scoped to the selected project, including projects nested inside a Git repository.
  • Handle unborn repositories, difficult rename paths, and Git errors more clearly.
  • Improve thread layout, CLI account status, terminal lifecycle, and packaged-app reliability.

Download

Choose the Apple Silicon DMG for installation, or the ZIP for a portable app bundle. Verify downloaded files against SHA256SUMS.txt.

Approval rules remain disabled. Windows and Linux installers and automatic updates are not included in this release. The companion requires the Mac to remain running and reachable on the same network. Modex Companion 0.1.0 (2) is available to existing internal TestFlight testers; there is no public TestFlight link yet. Physical iPhone acceptance remains open.

Downloaded-artifact verification confirms the signatures, notarization tickets, Gatekeeper assessments, and checksums.

Modex v0.0.5

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 03 Oct 18:03
v0.0.5
e2c2fbc

Modex 0.0.5 is the first signed and notarized Modex. It opens without a Gatekeeper warning, has its own icon, and makes Auto routing and Jev settings safer.

What's changed

  • Signed and notarized. The app and the DMG are signed with a Developer ID, notarized by Apple, and stapled, so macOS opens Modex without the right-click → Open step older builds needed. macOS names Soul Protocol LLC (team 9LR8Z8UQ9X) as the developer.
  • A Modex icon in the Dock, Finder and the DMG, replacing Electron's default.
  • Jev settings and routing limits (#51). Auto routing honours a CLI-only Jev transport, picks up saved judge settings, keeps an existing CLI session on its backend, and stops before running when an effort or premium limit can't be guaranteed. Settings has four sections with Save and Cancel always in reach. It keeps immediate key and reset actions apart from your draft, says which configuration a test used, and keeps a failed save so you can retry.
  • Terminals no longer leak a PTY each (#65). Every terminal used to hold a pseudo-terminal until Modex quit, and macOS allows 511 across the whole machine. Modex now ships node-pty 1.2.0-beta.15, which releases them. A terminal whose supervisor dies now always reports the missing cleanup receipt (#64).
  • A send that can't start says so (#61) in the error toast, instead of only as a note in the transcript.
  • Renamed files diff as renames in Changes (#60), including in projects opened at a repository subdirectory.
  • scripts/worktree.sh works offline (#62).
  • Releases come from a protected workflow. These files were built, signed, notarized and tested by the Release workflow from the signed v0.0.5 tag, after a required reviewer approved it. A test run against the packaged app had to pass before anything was uploaded.

Install

Download the macOS Apple Silicon DMG or ZIP and replace your existing Modex application. Your projects, threads, and preferences remain in ~/.modex. You need an installed and logged-in claude and/or codex CLI; coding turns still run only through those CLIs.

To check a download:

shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS.txt
spctl -a -vv -t open --context context:primary-signature Modex-0.0.5-arm64.dmg # accepted, source=Notarized Developer ID
xcrun stapler validate Modex-0.0.5-arm64.dmg

Scope and verification

Validation passed: build, typecheck, 195 unit tests, and 76 Electron end-to-end tests, run from source and against the packaged, notarized app both locally and in the Release workflow. Code signature, Gatekeeper (app and DMG), stapler (app, DMG, and the app inside the ZIP), DMG and ZIP integrity, and checksum checks passed. verification-v0.0.5.txt holds the workflow's verify output and an independent re-check of these exact files after download, including the end-to-end suite run against the downloaded app.

See the release review for findings and reproducible commands. Offline scripted CLI tests do not establish live-provider behavior, Jev's judgments with a key, or human VoiceOver acceptance. node-pty is a pre-release; Modex will move to 1.2.0 stable when it ships.

Modex v0.0.4

Choose a tag to compare

@BunsDev BunsDev released this 29 Sep 13:16
v0.0.4
11c30b7

Modex 0.0.4 names your threads for you and offers one next step after every turn.

What's changed

  • Threads name themselves. A new thread still takes your first message as its title right away. Once that first turn completes, the same CLI is asked, in a separate throwaway conversation that never touches your transcript, for a short title, and the sidebar updates when it answers. Renaming by hand or deleting the thread cancels the request; a slow or unusable answer keeps the first-message title.
  • One suggested next step. When a turn finishes, the composer shows a single follow-up as a ghost line on the empty input: run the checks, review the changes, chase the remaining failure, finish what was asked, and so on. Tab, → or a click fills it in; sending is still your keystroke, and anything you type hides it. On Auto threads Jev picks from a fixed list using typed facts about the turn and never sees the transcript; otherwise, or offline, a built-in rule picks.
  • Steadier layout tests. The terminal-panel geometry check now waits for the panel's entrance animation before measuring.
  • Docs. docs/status.md tracks what has shipped, what is unreleased on main, and what comes next.

Install

Download the macOS Apple Silicon DMG or ZIP and replace your existing Modex application. Your projects, threads, and preferences remain in ~/.modex.

As with 0.0.3, this build is ad-hoc signed and is not notarized. It requires an installed and logged-in claude and/or codex CLI. Coding turns still run through those CLIs; thread naming is one extra small call to the same CLI per new thread.

Scope and verification

Validation passed: build, typecheck, 132 unit tests, and 57 Electron end-to-end tests from source and against the packaged app. Code-signature, DMG, and ZIP integrity checks passed. Downloaded artifacts can be checked against SHA256SUMS.txt.

See the release review for findings and reproducible commands. Offline scripted CLI tests do not establish live-provider behavior, the quality of generated titles, Jev's follow-up choices, or human VoiceOver acceptance.

Modex v0.0.3

Choose a tag to compare

@BunsDev BunsDev released this 28 Sep 19:39
v0.0.3
33b9524

Modex 0.0.3 ships the embedded terminal panel and keeps your unsent text where you left it.

What's changed

  • Embedded terminal. A real shell per thread, in the thread's folder, in a bottom panel of the main pane. Open it with the title-bar terminal button or Control + backtick; hiding the panel keeps the shell running. Close, Restart, thread deletion, project removal and app quit wait for the shell's jobs to stop before completing, including jobs that ignore SIGHUP.
  • Unsent text waits for you. Type into a thread, look at another, come back: the text is still there, and the sidebar marks the thread with a pen until you send. A new chat always starts empty.
  • Terminal polish. A fade-and-rise entrance that respects Reduce Motion, a slim resize edge, an exit-code chip, and no height jump on first open.
  • Steadier tests. End-to-end windows no longer take the keyboard from whatever you are typing elsewhere.

Install

Download the macOS Apple Silicon DMG or ZIP and replace your existing Modex application. Your projects, threads, and preferences remain in ~/.modex.

As with 0.0.2, this build is ad-hoc signed and is not notarized. It requires an installed and logged-in claude and/or codex CLI. Coding turns still run through those CLIs.

Scope and verification

Validation passed: build, typecheck, 120 unit tests, and 57 Electron end-to-end tests from source and against the packaged app. Code-signature, DMG, and ZIP integrity checks passed. Downloaded artifacts can be checked against SHA256SUMS.txt.

See the release review and the terminal review for findings and reproducible commands. Offline scripted CLI tests do not establish live-provider behavior or human VoiceOver acceptance.

Modex v0.0.2

Choose a tag to compare

@BunsDev BunsDev released this 28 Sep 15:22
v0.0.2
8e96172

Modex 0.0.2 refreshes the desktop workspace and makes long-running CLI turns easier to control.

What's changed

  • Reworked title bar, sidebar, draft composer, transcript, and Changes panel, with layouts that persist across launches.
  • New chats stay as drafts until you send. Unsent instructions stay out of other projects, and model/effort selection works from the keyboard.
  • Compact layouts keep the composer usable down to the supported 900 × 600 window size. Settings contains keyboard focus, and Enter respects IME composition.
  • Codex force-stop recovery, safer thread/project removal, and shutdown that waits for CLI termination and transcript persistence.
  • Faster streaming: coalesced transcript writes and memoized completed Markdown. Git diffs handle literal wildcard filenames and unusual paths safely.

Install

Download the macOS Apple Silicon DMG or ZIP and replace your existing Modex application. Your projects, threads, and preferences remain in ~/.modex.

As with 0.0.1, this build is ad-hoc signed and is not notarized. It requires an installed and logged-in claude and/or codex CLI. Coding turns still run through those CLIs.

Scope and verification

This release uses reviewed main. The embedded terminal panel in PR #32 is not included. Main contains its engine groundwork; the existing external terminal action remains available.

Validation passed: build, typecheck, 108 unit tests, and 44 Electron end-to-end tests from source and against the packaged app. An upgrade smoke test verified that projects, threads, settings, and the exact transcript created by the published v0.0.1 app survive the upgrade. Code-signature, DMG, and ZIP integrity checks passed.

See the release audit for findings, captures, and reproducible commands. Offline scripted CLI tests do not establish live-provider behavior or human VoiceOver acceptance. Downloaded artifacts can be checked against SHA256SUMS.txt.

Built from reviewed merge 8e96172, delivered in PR #33.

Modex 0.0.1

Choose a tag to compare

@BunsDev BunsDev released this 26 Sep 04:13
v0.0.1
67304c6

First release of Modex, a Codex-App-style desktop app that drives the Claude Code and Codex CLIs on your machine. It never calls a model API for a coding turn; your existing claude / codex login sessions are the credentials.

Install (macOS, Apple Silicon)

  1. Download Modex-0.0.1-arm64.dmg, open it, and drag Modex to Applications.
  2. The app is ad-hoc signed, not notarized. On first launch, right-click → Open (or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Modex.app).
  3. Needs claude and/or codex installed and logged in. Modex reads your login-shell PATH at startup, so CLIs under nvm, Homebrew or ~/.local/bin are found even when launched from Finder.

What's in it

  • Projects and parallel threads, each on Claude or Codex, with Chat / Agent / Full-access modes, Plan mode, inline approvals, and a live Changes panel.
  • ⑂ worktree threads that follow a project's own scripts/worktree.sh.
  • ⚡ Auto routing: before each turn a judge (TypeSafe's Jev, or a built-in heuristic without a key) picks the model, reasoning effort, and fast mode within your bounds, and leaves a receipt explaining why. Hand-picked models teach it your preferences. See docs/auto-routing.md.
  • TypeSafe key stored in the OS keychain (never in a build or state.json); the jev CLI is used as the judge transport when installed.

Verification

Built from 67304c6 (signed tag v0.0.1). Unit 70/70, e2e 6/6, codesign --verify --deep --strict valid, and the packaged app was driven against the real CLIs (Claude replied, Codex listed 7 models, Auto routed a quick question to Haiku · low · fast). Checksums in SHA256SUMS.txt.
