R 4.6.0 failed to start up

Hi, I changed my laptop recently and have installed current R package and positron and other applications as mentioned in the introductory course. However the connection between R and Positron is failing. I am getting following message,

**R 4.6.0 failed to start up (exit code -1073741515)

The kernel exited before a connection could be established.**

Can someone suggest how to solve this?

Hi @mpatgaonkar-coder, can you in the terminal tab (lower center of the screen) run the following:

quarto check

Generally, taking a screenshot of the output is the better approach for troubleshooting compared to copy and paste, as the format remains intact.

While we are at it, if you check the interpretor drop down (upper right) does it show options for any R or Python version?

And what Operating System/Version?

I tried to re-install Positron and R, but still same error message appears.

In interpreter drop down I can see R path.
Could you please help?

Hi @mpatgaonkar-coder, given that even on the reinstall you are getting the error, it's not likely an issue with the install itself, but probably something behind the scenes as far as your computer settings that is causing communication between the two to break down.

Did a cursory glance through Positron's GitHub issues page, there is another active post where they are having the same issue. So far they have a couple more technical suggestions in terms of making sure Visual C++ is installed (and that the firewall is not contributing to the issue) that you can try, but if it is still not working I would comment on it and see if the Positron developers and help team can help troubleshoot.
