HYPE Desktop v1.4.1

Choose a tag to compare

@gtmenichino gtmenichino released this 02 Oct 16:30
  • Streams come from the USGS 3D Hydrography Program (3DHP) as map images from zoom 11, replacing the often unavailable NHDPlus HR.
  • Picks and traces follow 3DHP's stream network: either end can be clicked first, and drawn reaches take their direction from it.
  • The Flow Area is sized by its width alone; the drainage area, the Bankfull depth option and the channel-width box are gone.
  • The Model grid loads in a second or two and no longer blocks the app; its 3D imagery follows and is cached.
  • Smaller changes: the outage notice covers the map images, exports draw 3DHP streams, and Observations say why a well's head is n/a.

@gtmenichino gtmenichino released this 01 Oct 20:11
  • Flow Area: smooth outlines, named boundaries, and conditions along part of a boundary.
  • Groundwater on MODFLOW 6.8.0: a river package under Newton, recharge, seepage, drains, wells and solver settings.
  • Exchange lines feed the groundwater exchange back to the surface model, checked pass by pass.
  • Zone water budgets, a coupling check, and observations scored against the run, with photos.
  • Cross-section panel: the water table, floodplain head gradients, zoom and pan, whole-reach profiles.
  • Channel carving: plots docked under the map, multi-section edits, and Fit with a minimum depth.
  • Undo and redo for every input, map legends, and a 3D view that draws every map layer.
  • Faster particle tracking, terrain imports and project opens, with no map freezes.
  • Examples re-run on the new engine; Example projects now holds Elwha, and 29 Texas calibration sites remain.
  • Desktop: a second launch brings the open window forward; many smaller fixes throughout.

  • Channel: draw a centerline, or copy the main reach or a tributary, and carve a channel through cross-sections.
  • Sections land where the flat LiDAR water surface changes width; with no flat surface only the two ends are placed.
  • Each channel has its own row: click a section, drag its end points, set its depth or bed elevation and its slopes.
  • Each section's upstream slope sets its bed from the section above; the reach slope, first to last, feeds Manning's.
  • A cross-section plot shows the existing ground, the carved shape and the water surface at the design flow.
  • Capacity, depth, velocity and average depth come from Manning's equation; Set depth from flow sizes a section to the flow.
  • Add sections by clicking the reach, remove or regenerate them; the channel is carved between its first and last sections.
  • Every terrain modification has its own row and pane; the Terrain modifications pane lists them in apply order.
  • Edit on map reshapes a modification's own line or polygon without touching the reach; Done keeps, Cancel puts it back.
  • Velocity: the surface run adds a Velocity (raster) row; the Results row animates the modeled flow, RAS Mapper style, in 2D and 3D.
  • Layer panes have Settings and Display tabs: what you are looking at on Settings, how it is drawn on Display.
  • Raster colors: continuous or discrete classes, linear or histogram breaks, preset color ramps, and a Full, View or Manual range.
  • The color scale covers terrain, water surface, depth, head, concentration and temperature, matches in 3-D, and saves with the project.
  • Color scale: the picker on every Display tab shows each color scale as a gradient bar, the current one checked.
  • Surface results: a run shows the water surface and wetted extent only; boxes you set by hand stay as you set them.
  • NAIP imagery now comes from the USGS National Map, since the previous source is no longer reachable.
  • Terrain cross-sections show the water surface while its layer is on, with its elevation and depth under the plot.
  • Smaller changes: selecting Wetted extent no longer starts a drawing, new transport results start collapsed, and NAIP errors show once.

  • Minor visual updates to the workflow.

HYPE Desktop v1.3.1

@gtmenichino gtmenichino released this 15 Sep 12:57
  • Minor bug fixes for visualization: the step animation, its color range and the Concentration pane.
  • The splash and start screens say what HYPE models, Surface Water/Groundwater Interaction Modeling, in place of the name's expansion.

@gtmenichino gtmenichino released this 15 Sep 02:21
  • Heat transport: a temperature model runs through MODFLOW 6 GWE with a daily stream swing; temperature maps, curves and an energy budget.
  • Temperatures show in Fahrenheit under US Customary units.
  • Transport results open on the maximum over the run, each column's peak over every layer and step; untick the box for a layer and a step.
  • Heat: the preset row and a new heat model are named Heat; a heat model row has a checkbox that shows or hides its temperature map.
  • Concentration and temperature maps play through their saved steps, on the map and in the 3-D view, with a Play button and a speed slider.
  • The 3-D view shows a transport result as a slice at its layer's depth or as the cells above a cutoff, colored as on the map.
  • Mass and energy budgets by flow path: mass in and removed, or buffering, lag and mean shift, along each exchange class.
  • Habitat by flow path: streambed area, footprint and saturated volume per class, an optional depth filter, and a water-table map.
  • Habitat: the streambed card shows the hyporheic volume, equivalent active depth and P90 path depth, and follows the depth filter.
  • The Hyporheic Function Screening and its report are retired; its cited rates now seed the transport presets.
  • New model: fewer preset rows, each with species options (Salt, Bromide, Chloride; Zinc, Cobalt, Nickel) and cited rates.
  • Tree: Transport & Functions holds Transport Modeling and Habitat; a project saved on a screening row reopens on Transport Modeling.
  • The Hydraulics Report is now the Hyporheic Hydraulics Report, named for what it covers.
  • Breakthrough curves: the chart fills the pane, the wells list is the legend and readout, and Copy and Save export exactly what you see.
  • Zoom and pan the breakthrough chart: wheel to zoom, drag a box, Shift-drag to pan, double-click to reset; image exports follow the view.
  • Place an observation well on the map from the breakthrough curves pane, at the water table, without leaving it.
  • A finished run leaves the map layers as they were; only a stage's first result turns on one layer, and that is saved with the project.
  • Fixed: changing the saved time steps with a changed color range could kill the server.
  • Fixed: the 3-D view could come up blank on its first visit until Reset view and Fit.
  • Fixed: the breakthrough Data view left the chart showing, and tick labels on a 2.5 step dropped their decimal (2.5 read as 2).
  • Fixed: reopening a project reads the particle tracking from its folder, not an older copy saved in the project file.
