Privacy Policy
The following describes how the VHToolkit uses data.
Conversation Data. The VHToolkit lets you talk and interact with virtual humans (animated AI virtual characters) in real time. To do this, your input is sent to third-party artificial intelligence (AI) service providers. By default, your conversational text input is sent to OpenAI for processing. Optional alternative providers may include Anthropic and Google. Their handling of your data is governed by their own privacy policies. Your text input is currently not stored by the VHToolkit.
Voice Data. The VHToolkit optionally captures your microphone audio while you are speaking to a character and transmits that audio to third-party AI service providers that perform speech recognition. By default, this audio data is sent to OpenAI for processing. Optional alternatives may include ElevenLabs, Google, Microsoft Azure, and their handling of your data is governed by their own privacy policies. This processing occurs only during an active conversation. The microphone is turned off by default; you will need to enable it to start talking to the character. As an alternative to talking to the character, you can type in your input as text. Your audio data is currently not stored by the VHToolkit.
Camera Data. The VHToolkit optionally uses your device's camera to detect facial expressions, facial landmarks, and facial attributes (e.g., age, gender). This camera data is not recorded or stored by us, and it is not used to identify you. The data is processed by third-party artificial-intelligence service providers, which may include Amazon Web Services, and Microsoft Azure. Use of the camera is off by default.
Retention and Future Use. We do not currently retain or centrally store your conversations, audio, camera data, or transcripts after your session ends, and we do not sell your personal information or use it for advertising. In the future, we may collect de-identified, anonymized interaction data - for example, conversation transcripts and usage metrics with information that could identify you removed - solely to evaluate and improve the VHToolkit. If we begin collecting such data, we will update this privacy policy and provide any notice, consent, or opt-out choices before doing so.
