@UmutAlisoglu UmutAlisoglu released this 13 Oct 17:26

FileForge 0.2.0 expands the Windows application from four tools to nine, with a searchable interface that matches the main tasks available in the browser edition.

New in this release:

  • Remove image backgrounds to transparent or white PNGs, using a bundled model that works offline.
  • Trace images into real SVG vector paths with colour precision and detail controls.
  • Crop images by dragging a selection, choosing a ratio, or entering exact pixel coordinates.
  • Export selected PDF pages as PNG/JPG, individually or together in a ZIP.
  • Preview, reorder, rotate and select PDF pages before exporting an arranged PDF.
  • Convert batches of up to 50 images to a ZIP or one combined PDF, with distinct filenames.
  • Search by task or conversion direction; selecting PNG to PDF selects the PDF output.

Download and extract FileForge-Windows.zip. Keep all extracted files together, then run install.cmd, or launch FileForge.exe directly. Installing the new package updates an existing per-user FileForge installation. The ZIP is about 64 MB because it includes the native conversion libraries and background model. Python and administrator rights are not required for the built application.

Requirements: Windows with Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime. Video compression still requires FFmpeg and FFprobe installed separately on PATH. Other tools and the bundled background model work without FFmpeg or a paid API.

Source files stay unchanged. Processing runs locally. Temporary source copies are removed after a job finishes; results remain available locally for up to 24 hours while the app runs, or until cleared. See the README for limits and privacy details. Background removal can miss fine edges, and SVG tracing approximates photographs; preview results before using them.

Validation: 44 Python conversion checks; nine browser interface check groups covering real exports and cancellation; native executable checks that run actual crop, SVG, PDF-image and background conversions; isolated installer/version checks; ZIP integrity and bundled-file verification. SHA256SUMS.txt provides the download checksum.

The updated README compares browser and desktop features. LEARN.md explains how to develop, test, build and publish FileForge.

FileForge 0.1.0

@UmutAlisoglu UmutAlisoglu released this 10 Oct 15:12

FileForge 0.1.0 is the first Windows desktop version of the local file conversion workshop.

Included tools:

  • Video compression to a chosen maximum MP4 file size.
  • XLSX and CSV export to PDF tables.
  • Image conversion and resizing.
  • PDF merging with configurable document order.

Download FileForge-Windows.zip, extract it, and run install.cmd. You can also run FileForge.exe directly. No administrator rights or Python installation are required for the packaged app.

Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime is required. Video compression requires FFmpeg and FFprobe on PATH; FFmpeg is not bundled.

Spreadsheet export preserves visible cell data as tables. It does not reproduce Excel charts, images, merged cells, or print layout. Formula results use cached values saved in the workbook.

Validation: nine automated conversion checks passed, all four converters passed checks in the packaged app, native startup passed, and installer file copying was verified.
