  • Removed legacy output buffering and simplified formatter execution.
  • Improved consistency across Text, JSON, NDJSON, CSV, and Markdown output formats.

Terminal Experience

  • Redesigned the live progress interface.
  • Standard scans and fuzzing continue to provide exact progress reporting.
  • Recursive scans now display deterministic runtime activity instead of misleading percentage estimates.
  • Simplified the interactive statistics view.
  • Improved interactive rendering stability and synchronization.

Networking

  • Added automatic protocol detection for targets without an explicit scheme.
    • HTTPS is attempted first.
    • Falls back to HTTP only when HTTPS is unavailable.
  • Added --http-version for explicit HTTP protocol selection.

Redirect Presentation

  • Added dedicated redirect formatting for HTTP 3xx responses in text output.
  • Redirects now display the requested path together with the Location header instead of the response size.
  • Structured output formats remain unchanged.

CLI Improvements

  • Introduced a condensed --help focused on commonly used options.
  • Added --help-all for the complete command reference.
  • Improved overall help organization and usability.

Highlights

  • Added reusable profiles for scan and fuzz.
  • Create profiles directly from existing Searchit commands.
  • Support applying multiple profiles with a comma-separated list.
  • Added profile explanation and dependency visualization.
  • Improved profile validation and diagnostics.
  • Improved profile import experience and CLI help.

Improvements

  • Simplified --profile parsing and standardized its behavior.
  • Improved error messages for invalid profile commands and namespaces.
  • Better help output and examples for profile-related commands.
  • Various usability improvements throughout the profile workflow.

As always, bug reports, ideas, and pull requests are welcome.

searchit v0.5.6

Choose a tag to compare

@UnSubble UnSubble released this 27 Jul 07:58

Searchit v0.5.6

Searchit v0.5.6 is a stability-focused release that significantly improves progress tracking, execution robustness, and terminal output consistency.

Highlights

  • Deterministic search space accounting with accurate progress and ETA.
  • New bounded streaming execution pipeline for improved scalability.
  • More reliable graceful shutdown and in-flight request draining.
  • Improved terminal rendering and result presentation.
  • Expanded regression test coverage for network error scenarios and accounting correctness.

As always, this release maintains Searchit's correctness-first and deterministic execution guarantees.

Known Issues

The following issues are known in v0.5.6 and will be addressed in a future release:

  • Scan: The progress bar and ETA may display incorrect values under certain conditions. This is a presentation issue only and does not affect scan correctness, determinism, or completion.
  • Fuzz: Redirect presentation is currently inconsistent with scan mode. Redirect targets are shown as relative paths instead of resolved absolute URLs. This is a presentation issue only.

searchit v0.5.5

Choose a tag to compare

@UnSubble UnSubble released this 26 Jul 09:19

@UnSubble UnSubble released this 25 Jul 12:10

Searchit v0.5.4 is a maintenance release focused on improving the reliability, accuracy, and user experience of the update subsystem introduced in v0.5.3.

While no new scanning features were added, this release refines update diagnostics, strengthens Semantic Versioning, and improves installation verification.

Highlights

Improved Installation Diagnostics

  • Symlink-aware installation detection eliminates false multiple installation warnings (e.g. /bin/searchit and /usr/bin/searchit referring to the same executable).
  • Canonical path resolution now provides more accurate installation discovery.

Better Update Experience

  • More precise update and rollback status messages.
  • Consistent PASS / WARNING verification flow.
  • Improved NEWS availability reporting.
  • Clearer installation verification output.

searchit v0.5.3

Choose a tag to compare

@UnSubble UnSubble released this 24 Jul 15:41

Searchit v0.5.3

Searchit v0.5.3 is a reliability and usability release focused on making updates more transparent, predictable, and trustworthy.

This release improves how Searchit verifies installations and reports update results, ensuring users always know what was updated, which executable is currently active, and whether any manual action is required.

What's New?

  • Added active executable verification after updates.
  • Added installation method detection for Go and system installations.
  • Added PATH diagnostics and multiple binary detection.
  • Added installation diagnostics to searchit doctor.
  • Improved user guidance when manual intervention is required.

Trustworthy Updates

Searchit now treats:

  • installation succeeded
  • active executable updated

as two separate validation steps.

Searchit will no longer report a misleading success message. Instead, it will clearly explain:

  • which executable was updated,
  • which executable is currently active,
  • whether manual intervention is required,
  • what command should be executed next.

Installation Diagnostics

Searchit now recognizes different installation environments, including:

  • Go installations
  • System installations
  • Unknown installations

Unknown installations are never treated as safe automatically. When Searchit cannot reliably determine the installation method, it will provide diagnostics and recommendations instead of making assumptions.

Doctor Improvements

searchit doctor now provides additional installation diagnostics, including:

  • Active executable detection
  • Installation method detection
  • Multiple binary detection
  • PATH validation
  • Actionable recommendations when multiple installations are detected
