GameHQ 0.7.10 Beta 2

GameHQ 0.7.10 Beta 2 Pre-release
Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@UnderFusion UnderFusion released this 10 Oct 16:52

Public pre-release for testing. This is not a stable release. GameHQ 0.7.9 stays the Latest release, and the in-app updater does not offer this beta. Install it manually.

Use it with the GameHQ Playnite Integration 0.4.13 pre-release (playnite-v0.4.13), unchanged since Beta 1. If you already installed plugin 0.4.13, keep it.

What's new since Beta 1

  • Controller shortcuts in games launched outside Steam. With some games started directly as an .exe (for example from Playnite), Windows stopped delivering a connected DualSense to GameHQ while the game had focus, so screenshot and clip shortcuts did nothing. GameHQ now notices this and reads the controller directly (read-only; it never changes the controller's settings), and switches back to normal delivery when it returns. It can take a few seconds after the game starts.
  • Playnite games are kept when Playnite cannot identify the game's process. GameHQ used to ignore such a game; it now keeps it, and still only trusts the game's own process or install folder.

Also included from Beta 1: Windows Xbox mode with Playnite, and GameHQ notifications kept out of screenshots.

Known limitations

  • The controller fix is not yet confirmed by the reporter. Please report whether shortcuts now work in games launched from Playnite.
  • If a game takes exclusive control of the controller, GameHQ cannot read it directly either; the log will say so.
  • Pop-ups from other apps (Windows, Steam, Discord) can still appear in screenshots.
  • Windows binaries are not Authenticode-signed; Windows SmartScreen may warn before Setup runs.

Install over Beta 1

  1. Close GameHQ (tray icon > Quit).
  2. Run GameHQ-0.7.10-win64-setup.exe from this release. It replaces every installed file, so Playnite keeps finding the same copy. If GameHQ is still running, Setup asks you to close it first.
  3. Portable: extract the new zip over the old folder (or into a new folder and point the Playnite plugin at it).

Beta 1 and Beta 2 both show 0.7.10 in About. To confirm Beta 2 is installed, run in PowerShell:

Get-FileHash "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Programs\GameHQ\app\GameHQ.exe"

Beta 2's GameHQ.exe is EA2A3C19EAC2936209CDEA826189537E2C24778C62CD5EB5C0F88EDA110C31CA.

If shortcuts still fail, send gamehq.log (Settings > Advanced > Locations > Logs folder) right after trying, plus the game and whether the controller is on USB or Bluetooth.

GameHQ 0.7.10 Beta 1

GameHQ 0.7.10 Beta 1 Pre-release
Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@UnderFusion UnderFusion released this 08 Oct 16:31

Public pre-release for testing. This is not a stable release. GameHQ 0.7.9 stays the Latest release, and the in-app updater does not offer this beta. Install it manually.

Use it together with the GameHQ Playnite Integration 0.4.13 pre-release (playnite-v0.4.13). Playnite's automatic add-on updates keep offering 0.4.12 until this combination is confirmed.

What's new

  • Windows Xbox mode (full screen experience) with Playnite. Windows holds back startup apps until you first switch to the desktop, so after booting straight into Xbox mode GameHQ could be missing. Plugin 0.4.13 now checks again 15, 45 and 90 seconds after Playnite starts and when a game starts, and starts GameHQ if it is not running. When the Xbox shell holds the foreground, GameHQ uses the game Playnite started for screenshots and clips.
  • GameHQ notifications no longer appear in screenshots. The notice that the previous screenshot was saved could be captured in the next screenshot. Notifications still appear on your screen. Screen recorders and streaming apps that capture the whole screen no longer show them either.

Known limitations

  • Xbox mode support has not yet been confirmed on a PC running Xbox mode. Please report whether it works.
  • Pop-ups from other apps (Windows, Steam, Discord) can still appear in screenshots.
  • Windows binaries are not Authenticode-signed; Windows SmartScreen may warn before Setup runs.

Install

  1. Close GameHQ (tray icon > Quit).
  2. Run GameHQ-0.7.10-win64-setup.exe. It updates the installed copy in place, so Playnite keeps finding it.
  3. In Playnite, open the GameHQ_Playnite_Integration_0_4_13.pext file (double-click it, or drag it onto Playnite) and restart Playnite.
  4. If you use the Portable build instead, open Playnite > Add-ons > Generic > GameHQ Integration and set the GameHQ path to the Portable GameHQ.exe.

Check the versions

  • GameHQ: About in the sidebar shows 0.7.10.
  • Playnite: Add-ons > Generic > GameHQ Integration shows Plugin version 0.4.13, GameHQ version 0.7.10, the GameHQ path you expect, and Connected. If it shows an older GameHQ version, the plugin is pointed at another copy: set the path to the beta.

If something fails, send gamehq.log (Settings > Advanced > Locations > Logs folder) and Playnite's extensions.log.

GameHQ Playnite Integration 0.4.13 (pre-release)

Choose a tag to compare

@UnderFusion UnderFusion released this 08 Oct 16:31

Pre-release for Windows Xbox mode testing. Playnite's add-on browser and automatic updates keep offering 0.4.12; install this package manually. This plugin release is independent of the GameHQ application release.

Use it together with GameHQ 0.7.10 Beta 1.

Changed

  • Windows Xbox mode (full screen experience): Windows holds back startup apps until you first switch to the desktop, so GameHQ could be missing after booting straight into Playnite. The plugin now checks again 15, 45 and 90 seconds after Playnite starts and when a game starts, starts GameHQ if it is not running, and never launches a second copy when GameHQ is already running.
  • The Playnite log says whether GameHQ is not running or running but not connected.

Xbox mode support has not yet been confirmed on a PC running Xbox mode.

Install

  1. Close Playnite's full-screen mode if needed, then open GameHQ_Playnite_Integration_0_4_13.pext (double-click it, or drag it onto Playnite) and confirm the installation.
  2. Restart Playnite.
  3. Open the GameHQ Integration settings (Add-ons > Generic > GameHQ Integration) and check Plugin version 0.4.13, GameHQ version 0.7.10, the GameHQ path and Connected.

GameHQ 0.7.9 - Sharing, Controller & Overlay Improvements

Choose a tag to compare

@UnderFusion UnderFusion released this 02 Oct 18:27

Highlights

  • Share your captures. Send a screenshot or clip from the gallery, the full-screen viewer or the overlay to Telegram Desktop, Discord, a Discord channel or the clipboard, without signing in to anything through GameHQ.
  • Reliable DualSense over USB and Bluetooth. Bluetooth buttons and sticks are read correctly, switching between cable and Bluetooth no longer needs a restart, and unplugging the controller during a game no longer crashes GameHQ. DualSense and DualShock 4 controllers hidden by HidHide can still be used once GameHQ is allowed through HidHide.
  • An overlay you can shape. A live Overlay options panel sets margins, spacing, thumbnail size, interface size and control hints, and the sidebar can be expanded, collapsed, set to Auto or resized.
  • Full-screen viewing in the overlay. Open a screenshot full screen over your game, step through screenshots and clips with L1/R1, and mark favorites from the viewer.
  • A gallery that follows your files. Captures deleted, restored or copied in Explorer appear and disappear right away, and games can be pinned to the top of the list.
  • Smaller screenshot files. JPEG at 90% quality is now the default, while PNG remains available.
  • More control over notifications. Capture-request, Steam Input conflict and controller-hidden notices can be controlled individually, and mouse users can dismiss notifications early.
  • More of the interface works with a controller, including the language selector, Support, Tools and every Share step.

Sharing

  • Share any saved screenshot or clip: press Square on a capture and choose Share, click the Share icon on a capture tile, or use the Share button in the full-screen viewer. It works the same in the gallery, the viewer and the overlay, and is fully usable with a controller (Cross selects, Circle goes back).
  • Telegram Desktop opens its own chat picker with that one file. GameHQ never signs in to Telegram.
  • Discord copies the capture, opens Discord and lets you paste it into any chat. GameHQ never signs in to Discord.
  • Discord channels post a capture straight to a channel through a webhook link added in Settings › Sharing. Pin the channels you use most. The post appears as the webhook, not as your Discord account, and the link is kept in Windows Credential Manager.
  • Copy to clipboard is available as its own destination.
  • When you share from the overlay, Telegram or Discord comes to the front over your game so you can finish sending.
  • GameHQ only says Sent when a service confirms delivery, and asks before sharing the same capture to the same place twice.
  • Settings › Sharing is a new page with a switch for each destination; turning one off keeps its configuration.
  • Other programs on your PC can add their own Share destinations. This is off by default: turn on Allow add-ons from other programs in Settings › Sharing and restart GameHQ.

Overlay

  • Cross on a screenshot opens it full screen. L1/R1 or D-pad left/right step through screenshots and clips (clips play full screen), and Circle returns to the capture strip on the item you ended on. Cross on a clip still plays it in the preview, and left/right then seek it.
  • A gear above the sidebar toggle opens Overlay options: control hints on or off, the four outer margins (down to 0), interface size (now including 75% and 90%), thumbnail size and the spacing between the sidebar, thumbnails and preview. Changes show live and are remembered; Reset overlay layout restores the defaults. Works with the controller, mouse and keyboard.

Gallery & Interface

  • Pin games: hover a game in the sidebar and click the pin, or move the controller cursor onto it and press Triangle. Pinned games stay at the top of the list in both the main window and the overlay.
  • In the full-screen viewer, Triangle (or the button you assigned to favorites) marks the shown screenshot or clip as a favorite and removes it again. A heart shows the state and can be clicked.
  • Collapsible sidebar in the main window and the overlay. A button cycles through Expanded (the default), Auto and Collapsed. Auto shows a narrow icon rail while you browse and opens the full sidebar when you move into it. Each window remembers its own choice.
  • Drag the sidebar's edge to make it narrower or wider; double-click the edge to restore the default width.
  • A small arrow above Tools folds Help, About, Support and the language selector away, leaving Settings and the sidebar mode button.

Changes & Improvements

  • Screenshots are saved as JPEG at 90% quality by default instead of PNG, so each file is several times smaller. If you never changed the format you get JPEG automatically; PNG is still available in Settings › Capture.
  • The gallery and overlay follow your capture folders live. A capture deleted in Explorer disappears right away, and when it is restored from the Recycle Bin it comes back with its favorite mark and history intact. New files copied into a capture folder appear without Rescan. An open viewer stays on the capture it shows, and a delete confirmation always deletes the capture it named.
  • Settings › Notifications & Sound has separate switches for the Capture request received, Steam Input conflict and Controller hidden notices.
  • When you use the mouse, notifications show an X to close them early, and hovering one keeps it on screen. Nothing changes for controller-only play, and a game that hides the cursor never shows the X.
  • Warning notifications stay on screen for 10 seconds and carry a caution icon.
  • The new Sharing, interface, controller and notification text has been reviewed in all supported interface languages.
  • The main window's full-screen viewer uses half the margins, so captures appear larger.
  • Full-screen viewer hints switch to arrow and Esc keys as soon as you use the keyboard or mouse.
  • The language selector, Support GameHQ and the Tools group in the main sidebar can be reached with the controller. In the collapsed sidebar the language selector stays available as an icon.
  • Capture menus, Share and Overlay options now take priority over video playback in the overlay, so Cross selects the menu entry instead of playing the clip behind it.

Bug Fixes

  • DualSense over Bluetooth: sticks and buttons are read correctly in GameHQ. Bluetooth reports were read one byte off, so stick up/down registered as left/right and buttons were misread. USB was not affected.
  • L3 and R3 (stick clicks) now work on DualSense and DualShock 4 controllers read directly by GameHQ.
  • Switching a controller between USB and Bluetooth while GameHQ is running no longer leaves it unresponsive.
  • Unplugging a controller during in-game capture no longer crashes GameHQ.
  • Quick taps on controllers that use the Windows joystick fallback are no longer dropped.
  • Closing the overlay no longer stalls when a button was already held before it opened.
  • Settings › Input › Mapping presets: the Assignments list now shows and edits the preset chosen under Editing preset. Before, presets used by a game or not assigned to this controller could not be edited, and custom mappings such as a double tap could not be removed or reverted.
  • Start with Windows: another GameHQ copy (a portable build, or a copy with its own settings) no longer removes or takes over the installed copy's startup entry, which could stop the installed GameHQ from starting after a restart.

Controller & Compatibility

  • Sony controllers are read through the standard Windows input path, as before.
  • A DualSense or DualShock 4 hidden by HidHide, over USB or Bluetooth, is detected and reported. Once GameHQ is allowed in HidHide (Fix automatically does this), GameHQ reads the controller directly, the same way DSX does, while it stays hidden from games.
  • When a hidden-controller driver (HidHide, installed with DSX, DS4Windows or reWASD) hides your controller from GameHQ, a bar across the top of the main window explains it and offers Fix automatically, Settings and Not now.
  • GameHQ does not install or remove HidHide and does not change which controllers it hides. If you choose Fix automatically, it only adds GameHQ to HidHide's allowed applications.
  • Steam Input guidance: when a Steam game is running and a GameHQ shortcut uses Create / Share or PS, GameHQ explains that Steam Input may also send that button to the game and offers buttons that open the game's Steam controller layout or Steam's controller settings. GameHQ never reads or changes Steam's settings. It can be switched off or hidden per game.

Known Limitations

  • Whether the overlay keeps controller input away from the game depends on the game and how it reads the controller. A wired DualSense using GameInput is well tested; it isn't guaranteed for XInput, Raw Input, direct HID, Steam Input or virtual controllers.
  • With Telegram Desktop and Discord, GameHQ opens the app and you finish sending there; it can't see whether you actually sent the capture, so it never reports Sent for them. With Discord you paste the capture into a chat yourself.
  • Discord channel uploads are limited by the server's file size limit.
  • Some games pause or react when they lose focus, for example when Telegram or Discord comes to the front after sharing. Windows or another capture app may keep the yellow recording border visible.

GameHQ 0.7.9 Beta 4 - Controller and UI testing

Choose a tag to compare

@UnderFusion UnderFusion released this 30 Sep 21:18

Public prerelease for external testing. This is not the final 0.7.9 release. The app still reports version 0.7.9. Stable users can remain on 0.7.8; Beta 4 is not offered as Latest or through the stable updater.

DualSense input path enabled for this beta

Beta 4 enables the bounded, read-only direct-HID Sony input path by default for testing. Testers do not need to set an environment variable. Raw Input remains the fallback. This is a Beta 4 validation choice, not the final 0.7.9 production-default decision.

Please test: USB in-game screenshot + replay → unplug → Bluetooth without restarting GameHQ → screenshot + replay again. If it fails, send gamehq.log with the steps and controller/game details below.

For diagnostic comparison, GAMEHQ_SONY_HID_READER=0 disables the new path for that launch; =1 enables it. These overrides are optional and GameHQ does not persist them on your machine.

What's new since Beta 3

  • Share saved screenshots and clips from the gallery, full-screen viewer or overlay, with controller navigation, pinned destinations and confirmation before duplicate sharing. Use Copy to clipboard, Telegram Desktop, Discord Desktop or Discord channel webhooks; GameHQ never signs in to your Discord account.
  • New Settings > Sharing page with a master switch and individual destination controls. Optional add-ons from other programs are off by default. Webhook secrets are stored in Windows Credential Manager. The integrated Telegram account-login prototype is excluded from this public build.
  • Reviewed Share and Sharing settings translations across all 15 translated languages.
  • Screenshots default to JPEG at 90% quality for smaller files; PNG remains available, and an explicitly chosen format is preserved.
  • Open screenshots full screen in the overlay and browse captures with L1/R1 or D-pad left/right. While a clip plays, left/right seeks it. Keyboard and mouse use the appropriate control hints.
  • The gallery and overlay follow capture folders live: deleted files disappear, restored files reappear with their favorite state, and newly copied files appear without Rescan.
  • Resizable sidebars in Main and Overlay, with independent Expanded, Auto and Collapsed modes. Main also has an animated Tools section and controller access to language selection and Support.
  • Pin games to keep them above other games, with remembered pins and animated reordering.
  • Live Overlay options for outer margins, panel spacing, interface size, thumbnail size and control hints, with a reset button.
  • Mark screenshots and clips as favorites directly in the full-screen viewers; Main's viewer has smaller margins.
  • Separate switches for capture-request, Steam Input conflict and controller-hidden notifications, plus mouse dismissal without taking focus from your game.

Fixes

  • Removed a controller-topology refresh involved in the reported disconnect crash. In-game unplug/replug still needs external confirmation on this build.
  • Capture menus, Share and Overlay options take priority over video controls.
  • Resetting UI settings updates sidebar state and pinned-game order immediately.
  • Starting another GameHQ copy no longer removes or takes over the installed copy's Start with Windows entry.
  • Full-screen viewers keep a valid selection when favorites change or files disappear; collapsed sidebar controls and language menus retain predictable controller navigation.
  • Repaired the complete test build and added regressions for sidebar navigation, language menus, toast input and favorite removal.

Previous beta fixes included

Beta 4 also includes the Beta 1–3 fixes: corrected DualSense Bluetooth stick/button parsing and L3/R3, USB-to-Bluetooth fallback, faster backup-path input, editable mapping presets, faster overlay close after held input, and Steam Input conflict/controller-hidden guidance. Existing Bluetooth mappings are unchanged by the new Beta 4 build default.

External testing

Please check controller disconnect/reconnect during active capture or replay, USB-to-Bluetooth switching without restarting GameHQ, screenshot/replay shortcuts while the game is foreground, and your normal Share destinations. These scenarios remain acceptance checks rather than claims of completed hardware testing.

For reports, include your controller model, USB/Bluetooth transport, Steam Input/DSX/HidHide configuration, game/window mode, steps and GameHQ log. Portable logs: gamehq-data\logs\gamehq.log; installed logs: %APPDATA%\GameHQ\GameHQ\logs\gamehq.log.

Downloads and trust

Setup is recommended. Portable is the no-install alternative. Previous Beta releases and their assets remain available and unchanged.

Open-source Beta · Not yet code-signed; Windows may show an Unknown publisher warning. GameHQ core is GPL-3.0-only; Playnite integration and the public protocol remain MIT. Corresponding source and SHA-256 checksums accompany the downloads.

GameHQ 0.7.9-beta3 - Mapping Preset Editing Fix

Choose a tag to compare

@UnderFusion UnderFusion released this 28 Sep 17:49

Test build. This is not a general release. Stable users should stay on 0.7.8.

The app reports version 0.7.9. This build is v0.7.9-beta3, commit 728e48f. It replaces 0.7.9-beta2 for testing.

What's new since beta2

  • Mapping presets can be edited again: Settings › Input now shows and edits the preset chosen under Editing preset. Before, changes went to a different preset, so custom mappings (for example a double tap on Share) in your own preset could not be edited, removed or reverted. The page now opens on the preset in use, and a new preset opens for editing straight away.
  • No more missed quick button presses on the backup controller path (the older Windows joystick system): it now reads the controller on its own thread instead of every 50 ms on the app's main thread.
  • The overlay closes without delay when a button was already held while it opened.
  • Steam Input help: when a Steam game is running and a GameHQ shortcut uses Create / Share or PS, GameHQ explains that Steam Input may also send that button to the game and offers buttons that open Steam's controller settings. Guidance only: GameHQ never reads or changes Steam settings. It can be switched off in Settings › Input.
  • Warning notices stay on screen for 10 seconds with a caution icon. GameHQ also warns when another tool hides the controller from it.

Everything from beta1 and beta2 is included: the Bluetooth DualSense button/stick fix, the USB-to-Bluetooth backup-path fix and the raw-input receipt log line.

What to test

  1. In Settings › Input, choose your preset under Editing preset.
  2. Edit a mapping, for example change Share from a double tap to a hold, then remove a custom mapping.
  3. Close and reopen Settings and check that the changes are still there.
  4. Check that the edited mapping works in a game.

If something still goes wrong, please send the log: gamehq-data\logs\gamehq.log (portable) or %APPDATA%\GameHQ\GameHQ\logs\gamehq.log (installed), and tell me which preset and mapping you were editing.

GameHQ 0.7.9-beta2 - Bluetooth Background Capture Diagnostic

Choose a tag to compare

@UnderFusion UnderFusion released this 25 Sep 15:26

Diagnostic test build for one Bluetooth issue. This is not a general release. Stable users should stay on 0.7.8.

The app reports version 0.7.9. This build is v0.7.9-beta2, commit 42e633d. It replaces 0.7.9-beta1 for this test only.

What's new since beta1

  • Controller capture after switching from USB to Bluetooth: GameHQ's backup controller path (the older Windows joystick system) now picks up a DualSense that moves from USB to Bluetooth while GameHQ is running. Before, it only found the pad again after a restart.
  • Diagnostics: GameHQ now writes a short raw-input receipt line to its log. It appears at startup, when a controller connects or disconnects, and when controller input stops arriving (for example while a game is in front). It records message counts and GameHQ's own input registration. It contains no device serials, no window titles and no raw controller data.

The Bluetooth button and stick fix from beta1 is unchanged.

Test sequence

Please don't change Steam, DSX or GameHQ settings during this test.

  1. Start GameHQ with the DualSense connected by USB.
  2. Launch the game and confirm the capture button works once.
  3. Keep GameHQ running.
  4. Disconnect USB and connect the same DualSense over Bluetooth.
  5. Put the game in the foreground.
  6. Press the capture button 3 times, a few seconds apart.
  7. If nothing happens, leave the game in the foreground for about 20 seconds before doing anything else.
  8. Bring GameHQ to the foreground.
  9. Close and restart GameHQ while the controller stays on Bluetooth.
  10. Put the game in the foreground again and try one more capture.

Please send back:

  • the log: gamehq-data\logs\gamehq.log (portable) or %APPDATA%\GameHQ\GameHQ\logs\gamehq.log (installed)
  • whether capture worked before the switch from USB
  • whether it failed after switching to Bluetooth without restarting GameHQ
  • whether it worked again after the restart

GameHQ 0.7.9-beta1 - DualSense Bluetooth Fix

Choose a tag to compare

@UnderFusion UnderFusion released this 25 Sep 13:05

Beta build for testing the DualSense Bluetooth fix. It is not offered by the in-app updater; stable 0.7.8 remains the latest release.

Fixes

  • DualSense over Bluetooth: sticks and buttons are now read correctly in GameHQ menus. Before, pushing the left stick up or down could register as left or right, and some buttons did not respond. USB was not affected.
  • L3 / R3 (pressing the sticks in) now work on DualSense and DualShock 4 controllers connected directly to GameHQ.

Diagnostics

  • The log now notes which report format each Sony controller sends (one line when the controller starts and whenever the format changes), which makes controller problems easier to diagnose.

How to test

  1. Close GameHQ, unplug the USB cable and connect the DualSense over Bluetooth.
  2. Extract the portable ZIP and start GameHQ before Steam.
  3. Check the left stick in all four directions, the D-pad, Cross/Circle/Square/Triangle, L1/R1, L2/R2, L3/R3, Create/Options and the PS button.
  4. Optionally open Steam and try a few controls again.
  5. If anything is still wrong, send gamehq-data\logs\gamehq.log from the GameHQ folder and name the control.

GameHQ 0.7.8 - Mapping Presets & Major Fixes

Choose a tag to compare

@UnderFusion UnderFusion released this 22 Sep 19:30

Highlights

  • The overlay now works much more reliably over borderless games. It appears above the game, captures controller input for overlay navigation on supported GameInput paths, and the game stays visible. Confirmed with a wired DualSense in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle in Borderless mode.
  • Navigating the overlay no longer controls the game underneath on supported GameInput paths. Closing the overlay waits until you release any held buttons before giving the controller back to the game.
  • Replay clips are safer: quick repeated saves never overwrite an existing clip, and a clip can be saved right after recording starts.
  • New mapping presets: create, edit and assign controller layouts per controller and per game.
  • GameHQ remembers where you left off: the last page, Settings category, gallery filter and each game's overlay category.

Overlay

  • The overlay can take controller focus while staying above a visible borderless game, without minimizing it.
  • On supported GameInput paths, navigating the overlay no longer also controls the game.
  • When you close the overlay, it waits briefly for held buttons and sticks to return to rest before handing the controller back, so a held input doesn't carry into the game.
  • Opening and closing the overlay is faster and more reliable, and a quick repeated press no longer closes it right after it opens. Alt-Tab and other deliberate switches to another app are respected.
  • The overlay follows the correct game when the game recreates its window, loses its window or briefly loses focus. It closes cleanly when another app takes over.
  • The overlay reopens on the screenshot or clip you last selected. After a new capture it starts on the newest item.
  • Clips start playing in the overlay without the preview briefly disappearing.
  • The dimmed background now appears together with the overlay menus instead of fading in after them.
  • The control hints at the bottom now sit on a small background that follows your overlay dimming setting, so they stay readable over the game.
  • The game you're currently playing is now highlighted correctly when you move through the sidebar.
  • Controller navigation works better across overlay menus, the gallery and video playback, and navigation buttons are kept separate from capture shortcuts.

Capture & Replay

  • Quick repeated saves get unique filenames instead of overwriting an existing clip. A failed export never removes earlier clips, and thumbnails always match the right clip.
  • A replay save uses the footage recorded so far, even before the buffer duration you set has filled.
  • A replay export keeps the footage it needs when you switch games or the buffer restarts, and GameHQ waits for an active export to finish before shutting down.
  • Screenshots and replay saves are acknowledged immediately, then show a clear saved or failed result. Notifications update in place, and only a limited number are shown at once.
  • Failed or skipped captures now explain why, even with success notifications turned off.
  • The replay status now shows whether recording has really started and whether usable footage exists, with clear messages for starting, empty-buffer and export-in-progress states.
  • Manual replay sessions now survive settings changes and HDR screenshots taken at the same time. A manual session you start but never use turns off after a while.
  • Saving a replay no longer stalls capture while the thumbnail is created, and screenshots taken at the same time create their folder more reliably.
  • New option for the Windows yellow capture border, with clearer information about permission and system support. Recording still works when Windows can't hide the border.

Controller & Input

  • More reliable controller detection and input routing when several controllers or input sources are connected.
  • Switching input sources, reconnecting controllers and tracking held buttons now avoid missed presses, doubled presses and stuck input.
  • Fixed PS-button presses that were missed, and delayed repeat presses that could reopen the overlay right after you closed it.
  • Triggers, stick clicks and other buttons now behave the same across supported input sources, so bindings act more predictably.
  • Controllers that use GameInput keep working normally, including overlay isolation, when Windows can't provide optional Guide/Share button support.
  • The controller you're editing in Settings stays selected when a different controller becomes active.

Mapping Presets

  • New preset library for controller layouts, where you can create, rename, duplicate, edit and delete presets.
  • Presets can be assigned to controllers and games, with a fallback choice and automatic selection for the game you're running.
  • Your existing custom bindings move into the preset system automatically, and the original data is kept as a backup.
  • Switching presets takes held buttons and gestures in progress into account, so switching doesn't trigger actions by accident.
  • The interface separates the assigned preset from the one you're editing, protects unsaved edits, and lets you make a copy for a single controller.
  • Deleting a preset that's in use asks for a replacement or fallback first, and changes to shared presets are clearly marked.

Interface, Settings & Sound

  • GameHQ reopens on the last page, Settings category and gallery filter you used. The overlay remembers its last category separately for each game.
  • The window now restores correctly on monitors to the left of or above your main display. A window that would open fully off-screen is moved back onto a connected display.
  • The main window and overlay each have their own scaling, from 100% to 200%, remembered across restarts. Small windows lay out better.
  • Capture sounds are louder and more distinct, and have their own volume control and preview. Interface and capture volume can go up to 300%.
  • Changing notification, sound, capture-border or manual-session settings no longer throws away your replay buffer.
  • Opening the gallery keeps its saved filter. A saved filter for a game that no longer exists falls back safely. Settings categories stay put if their order changes.
  • Fixed blank content and stacking problems when changing interface scale, and menus now show above the main content.
  • Binding controls show how long a hold lasts and explain how hold gestures work.

Updates, Languages & Diagnostics

  • Update notes appear in your selected language, fall back to English when a translation isn't available, and remain readable offline once loaded.
  • Update notes can include an optional link to the GitHub release, which you can reach with a controller.
  • Translations have been extended across all supported languages for the new capture, sound, border, hold, preset and focus messages.
  • Copied diagnostics now include active bindings, preset selection, input-source changes and overlay focus state, with device identifiers anonymized.
  • Capture diagnostics follow each request from the button press to the saved file, which makes problems easier to track down. Sound problems are reported with a clear warning.

Known Limitations

  • Whether the overlay isolates the controller from the game depends on the game and how it reads the controller. A wired DualSense using GameInput is well tested. It isn't guaranteed for XInput, Raw Input, direct HID, Steam Input or virtual controllers.
  • Switching controllers with DSX running is only partly verified. DSX setups stay under your control; GameHQ doesn't install or manage virtual-controller or device-hiding drivers.
  • Some games pause or react when they lose focus. Windows or another capture app may keep the yellow recording border visible.
  • Where a localized 0.7.8 release note is unavailable, GameHQ falls back to English.

GameHQ 0.7.7 - Sixteen-Language Interface

Choose a tag to compare

@UnderFusion UnderFusion released this 07 Sep 13:12

GameHQ 0.7.7 (2026-09-07)

Added

  • GameHQ is now available in sixteen interface languages. It follows your Windows language the first time it starts, and you can pick a different one in Settings.
  • Changing the language takes effect immediately across the application, including the overlay and the tray menu, without restarting GameHQ. Your choice is remembered.
  • Setup now runs in your language and passes that choice to GameHQ's first launch, so the installer and the application no longer disagree.
  • The Playnite extension and the launcher's error dialogs are localized as well.
  • What's New is shown in your language whenever a translated version of those notes exists. When it does not, the complete English text is shown instead, never a mixture of languages.

Changed

  • Dates, numbers and item counts now follow the selected language instead of the system default.

Known limitations

  • GameHQ is still an unsigned beta, so Windows may warn about an unknown publisher when you run Setup.
