LocalOCR Studio v0.3.0-beta.1

This prerelease adds the new LocalOCR visual system and an opt-in desktop batch workflow while preserving the default single-document experience. LocalOCR remains 100% local: documents, recognized text, filenames, paths, thumbnails, hashes, cache entries, and outputs are not uploaded.

Highlights

  • Refreshed bone, olive, and ink visual system shared with LocalOCR for iPhone and iPad.
  • Open or drop one PDF or supported image for the familiar single-document workflow.
  • Choose New Batch to add files or folders, select an output folder, and review supported and skipped items before processing starts.
  • Process batch items sequentially with cancellation, failed-item retry, output-folder reveal, and content-free diagnostics.
  • PDFs produce new searchable PDFs; images produce .txt output. Source documents remain unchanged.
  • Existing output files are never overwritten; LocalOCR chooses a numbered filename when needed.

Install

Download LocalOCR-Studio-0.3.0-2.zip and LocalOCR-Studio-0.3.0-2.sha256 into the same directory, then run:

shasum -a 256 -c "LocalOCR-Studio-0.3.0-2.sha256"

Require an OK result before expanding the ZIP. Move LocalOCR Studio.app to /Applications and open it normally. Do not bypass Gatekeeper or remove quarantine.

Compatibility and verification

  • Apple silicon and macOS 14.0 or later.
  • Developer ID signed with Hardened Runtime, Apple notarized, stapled, and Gatekeeper accepted.
  • The packaged macOS UI suite passed 15 of 15 tests on the build Mac.
  • Compatibility has not yet been accepted on a second physical Mac for this beta; include the exact Mac model and macOS build when reporting issues.

Current limitations

  • No Intel, Windows, or Linux support.
  • Batch processing is an explicit review-before-start workflow; the default remains one document at a time.
  • No batch history, language/settings wizard, or guided MCP setup.
  • OCR may need review for difficult source material; retain original documents.

Advanced MCP

The bundle includes the local localocr CLI and local-stdio MCP server. See the beta tester guide and MCP schema.
