LocalOCR Studio v0.3.0-beta.2

This prerelease adds a complete branded LocalOCR application icon to the Mac app and Finder while preserving the desktop, batch, CLI, MCP, and privacy behavior from Beta 1.

Highlights

  • Branded LocalOCR icon embedded in the signed app bundle and displayed by macOS.
  • Open or drop one PDF or supported image for the default single-document workflow.
  • Choose New Batch to review and process multiple supported files sequentially into a chosen output folder.
  • PDFs produce new searchable PDFs; images produce .txt output. Original documents remain unchanged.
  • Existing outputs are never overwritten; LocalOCR creates a numbered filename when needed.
  • The bundled localocr CLI and local-stdio MCP server remain available for advanced users.

Privacy boundary

OCR remains on the Mac. LocalOCR does not upload documents, recognized text, filenames, paths, thumbnails, hashes, cache entries, or outputs. Local model selection—Apple Foundation Models, Ollama, and LM Studio—is next-version work and is not included in this download.

Install

Download LocalOCR-Studio-0.3.0-3.zip and LocalOCR-Studio-0.3.0-3.sha256 into the same directory, then run:

shasum -a 256 -c "LocalOCR-Studio-0.3.0-3.sha256"

Require an OK result before expanding the ZIP. Move LocalOCR Studio.app to /Applications and open it normally. Do not bypass Gatekeeper or remove quarantine.

Compatibility and verification

  • Apple silicon and macOS 14.0 or later.
  • Built with stable Xcode 26.6 (17F113).
  • Developer ID signed with Hardened Runtime, Apple notarized, stapled, and Gatekeeper accepted.
  • Verified on the build Mac and Scott’s Mac mini running macOS 27.0 beta (26A5421a), and on the owner MacBook Pro running macOS 26.6.2 (25G83). Checksum, signatures, staple, Gatekeeper, CLI, MCP, installation, and launch passed on all three Macs. Compatibility with future Apple beta builds is not guaranteed.
  • Verification: 279 Swift tests and 278 release-contract tests passed. The branded-icon UI change passed the 15-test packaged macOS UI suite before merge.

Current limitations

  • No Intel, Windows, or Linux support.
  • No batch history, language/settings wizard, guided MCP setup, or user-selectable local intelligence provider in this build.
  • OCR may need review for difficult source material; retain original documents.
