How to register a new discord bot

Purpose

Teach you how to register your discord bot with Discord. You will need to register your own bot with discord in order to obtain the bot token, and clientId which is required for connecting the bot to your discord server.

Steps

  1. First, login to discord and navigate to the developer portal 👉https://discord.com/developers/applications
  2. Create a new application give it some identifiable name. For this example, I chose SomeFancyBotName
  3. Once the bot is created, take note of the Application ID, this is also known as your Client ID
  4. Next, we need to get your bot token, Click on Bot on the lefthand side

  1. You will most likely need to reset Your token. If so, click on Reset Token, then click Yes, do it!
  • take note of the token
  • Uncheck Public bot if you do not want this bot able be able to be joined to other servers by other users
