@VED2107 VED2107 released this 16 Oct 09:23

First public release of NOVA, a calm, honest media player for Windows.

Download: NOVA_0.1.0_x64-setup.exe (Windows x64). SHA-256:
4657362ea741575166bd8fad01c4625508717c4c8a735c812407b7def171bbfe

  • Tested on one Windows 11 machine. Windows 10 and clean machines have not been tested yet.
  • The installer is not signed, so Windows SmartScreen may warn. Check the SHA-256 first (Get-FileHash .\NOVA_0.1.0_x64-setup.exe).
  • Installs per user; no administrator rights needed.

What's in it: the player deck with the beam playhead, Home and Library (grid and list), resume across restarts, the queue and playlists, the playback details panel, and honest errors for broken files, editing projects and camera RAW. 55/55 synthetic compatibility samples met their expectation in software and hardware passes. Licences

  • NOVA's own code: MIT OR Apache-2.0.
  • The installer bundles libmpv-2.dll, the third-party build shinchiro/mpv-winbuild-cmake 20261015, which includes GPL components (x264, x265). The installer as a whole is therefore distributed under the GNU GPL, version 2 or later.
  • Corresponding source for the engine is attached: mpv 492bae0768f5e826991bf9fb222fa303371e8498, FFmpeg ee8cbd7dbce9b293905f3088192e4b43ab00c33a, and the build recipe 1f8d2e76255abc48f0456d9be99b4cab9c6566e6. For the other compiled-in components, see the written offer in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md.
  • Licence texts ship in the install folder under licenses\. NOVA's source for this release is tag v0.1.0 (the archives below).

Later releases are planned to bundle an LGPL engine built from source (ADR 0003).
