Returns from Darkness HD 0.4.4 — Dark Gothic HUD

Returns from Darkness HD 0.4.4 — Dark Gothic HUD refinement

Complete Gothic frames, guardian sculptures, textured panels and animated resource liquids are integrated with the project's native interface. The final refinement widens the lower left button column so CHAR, QUESTS, MAP and MENU remain inside their frames, with the actual hit areas aligned. All live HUD captions are measured using the game's own font metrics.

Character labels and numbers occupy separate columns. The inventory keeps 70 native cells, complete crown and lower pentagram, a correctly positioned live gold label, and Gothic weapon tabs. Eight potion slots and a recessed experience strip complete the lower panel. The kit's 52 original PNGs are preserved; 24 runtime pieces form one RGBA atlas. Tchernobog remains credited for the 48-frame animated liquids; world artwork is inherited and a complete world-art remaster remains in development.

The website shows real current-client captures and localized descriptions. Signed automatic updates, Sanctuary accounts and progression, creator-hosted rooms and local saves are retained. Experience and ordinary loot rates are unchanged.

Returns from Darkness HD 0.4.3 — Dark Gothic HUD

Returns from Darkness HD 0.4.3 — Dark Gothic HUD

The new interface integrates the project owner's Dark Gothic HUD Kit, including the complete carved frames, demonic crowns, guardian sculptures, textured message recess and eight live potion slots. The character panel separates labels from numeric fields; the inventory retains all 70 native cells and all equipment positions. Artwork and hit areas move together.

Animated health and mana liquids remain adapted from the 48-frame Tchernobog resource atlases. Independent fill masks follow actual game values, with empty-to-full endpoint handling and complete kit sculptures. Decorative source images do not supply gameplay values: sample items, fixed numbers and sample potion pictures are removed from composition.

The runtime uses one 2048×2048 RGBA atlas, transparent gutters, one-time decoding and a shared sprite batch. Native item icons, text and cursor remain above the artwork. Pixel-grid inspection checks frame proportions, visible bounds, text columns and the native slot geometry; the lower inventory rails and pentagram remain intact around the live gold label.

This release preserves Sanctuary accounts, account unlocks, creator-hosted rooms, local character saves and signed automatic updates. Global experience and ordinary item-drop tables remain unchanged. The website gallery shows real captures of the current client alongside separately identified concept art. It does not claim a complete replacement of all world textures or authoritative ranked PvP.

Returns from Darkness HD 0.4.2 — Slate and Iron

Returns from Darkness HD 0.4.2 — Reliquary HUD

The resource vessels preserve the original Tchernobog statues, framing and animated liquid, integrated with the project's textured interface. Resource fill is separated from inherited panel sprite offsets: full health and mana reach the upper liquid area, and an empty vessel remains empty. Eight distinct belt cells retain their original controls and item positions.

The adaptation preserves 48 complete health frames and 48 complete mana frames from Tchernobog 0.2.2f. Each original 256x256 RGBA canvas, including the statues and transparent margins, occupies one tile in a 2048x1536 atlas. The useful liquid diameter is approximately 110 pixels. The project shader supplies circular clipping and independent resource fill with elapsed-time animation. This inherited vessel artwork is credited to Tchernobog; it is not presented as original project artwork or 256-pixel native liquid detail.

The Sanctuary website presents real client screenshots alongside clearly identified concept artwork. Gameplay, the adapted project interface and First Vigil items are shown together with the native account and room flow, explaining how the website and in-game hub share online sessions. The current client still includes inherited world, character and item artwork; this release does not replace every game texture with HD artwork.

This update continues the 0.4.1 character-rule and room-difficulty organization, Play Online entry, native notices, signed updates, local save preservation and Sanctuary progression. Cooperative room difficulty belongs to the shared room; Coliseum keeps its separate arena rules. Existing global experience and ordinary drop rate tables are unchanged.

Inventory equipment wells and the item grid are brighter than the decorative stone frame, with matte pewter borders and clearer grey divisions. The guardian sculptures retain their full bust and supporting base, aligned with the bottom of the HUD. The helmet slot is inset inside the inventory frame, with its hit area moved together. A new original slate-and-iron material replaces the dominant gold treatment. Menu repairs now run on initialization/activation/reset rather than fully repainting every static control ten times per second; unchanged main-menu captions are no longer rebuilt on every title-animation tick. Logo state objects are reused and released before device reset.

The native menu idle pump now waits for input instead of continuously consuming a CPU core. The compatibility hook applies only to the loaded UI library in this process, is discovered by named import and preserves gameplay/network pumps.

Returns from Darkness HD 0.4.1 — The First Vigil

The Sanctuary is now organized as a centered game hub with a navigation rail, dedicated room area and five profile tabs. Original cathedral artwork and vector ornaments accompany account progression, public profiles, chat, campaign/Coliseum rooms and fourteen languages. Existing sign-in and game-launch flows are preserved.

Native menu rendering separates D3D9 surface transfers from scene drawing and refreshes complete dialogs on activation and device reset. Routine requirements, account and room notices use skinned in-game dialogs with native bitmap fonts. The launcher also has a themed failure notice. The main menu entry is now Play Online.

Online character rules and campaign difficulty now have separate roles: cooperative heroes use Normal rules, while Horror to Inferno are selected once for the room. New online characters no longer show an incompatible second rules selector; old incompatible heroes remain saved and receive an in-game notice. Coliseum uses its arena rules without a campaign difficulty field, including compatibility for older clients. Character level checks now read the selected hero's native save description rather than the solo dialog pointer, allowing eligible heroes to enter advanced rooms while preserving minimum levels and account unlock requirements.

The first project-specific HUD framing and inventory backdrop replace the inherited statues and ornamentation with textured dark stone, aged iron, restrained gold and ember seals. An original 1254x1254 material is composited through a GPU mask over the interface surfaces, preserving item icons, text and orb contents. Health/mana fills, numbers, controls, equipment slots and hitboxes retain their functional layout. This is an interface remaster, not a replacement of every world and character sprite. The original project emblem is embedded in the game, launcher and setup executables and used in the taskbar/tray and website favicon.

The First Vigil collection adds three explicit boss rewards with original inventory and ground sprites: Signet of the Last Vigil from Skeleton King, Lantern of the Return from Butcher and Ashen Covenant from classic Diablo. They require Normal campaign mode in Horror and preserve existing class/loot restrictions. Stable append-only IDs and private unique lines keep them out of old random unique generation. Global experience and ordinary drop rate tables are unchanged; these are additional named boss rewards.

This release preserves Sanctuary account progression, local automatic saves, website/game session handoffs and signed launcher updates. It is an adapted community edition with its inherited bases credited, plus new project-specific systems and artwork. World-wide HD artwork, host migration, browser gameplay and authoritative ranked PvP remain in development.

Returns from Darkness HD 0.4.0 — Sanctuary

Account progression now unlocks character paths, traits, modifiers, local challenge modes and nine sequential campaign difficulties. New accounts start with six paths. Higher tiers require character levels and previous campaign completion. Existing saves retain their selected builds and legacy access without fabricated medals. Perk ranks, equipment requirements and trait conflicts remain intact; XP and drop rates are unchanged.

The Sanctuary adds public account profiles, native character summaries, portrait selection, seven achievement titles, nine campaign seals, three completion dots and a golden portrait. Campaign/solo and Coliseum levels are tracked separately. The game hub can select titles and portraits; the website shares the same profile. Progression is client-reported and unranked; full saves remain local. Extended campaign completion is Uber Diablo on floor24, not the original floor16 boss.

The community and play layouts now include profile navigation, campaign/Coliseum room filters, tier selection and clearer unlock requirements. Website content in14 languages distinguishes inherited Diablo/Hellfire and The Hell3 content from Returns from Darkness integration and Sanctuary systems. A project-original HUD and item collection are the next scope, not content already supplied by this release.

The native menus retain the launcher0.3.7 Enter Game fix, consume completed preparation, and the setup chooses its embedded signed version rather than a hardcoded folder. Signing into an already open menu applies the account without forcing the room list. Room changes reuse the running game. A temporary lock on the connection statistics file no longer disconnects gameplay. Developer progression/loot fixtures and local test endpoints are excluded from the production engine. A death XP deduction boundary error was corrected; base rates remain unchanged.

Validation includes backend unlock/ownership/replay/legacy invariants; real native solo-world progression to an isolated SQLite realm; two production native clients entering and switching test rooms; statistics-file lock survival; desktop/mobile and14-language UI; embedded installation and signed manifest verification. Cross-PC external graphical testing and natural complete campaigns across all nine tiers are not certified by these tests. Coliseum remains experimental without authoritative ranking.

Compatible original/mod game data is required on first preparation. Whole-world HD artwork, host migration and browser gameplay remain unfinished. Update manifests are cryptographically signed; trusted publisher Authenticode signing is not yet available.

Returns from Darkness HD 0.3.7 — Launcher fix

Returns from Darkness HD 0.3.7

Fixes the Windows launcher's Enter Game button after installation or automatic launcher replacement. The prepare/update action is consumed when preparation finishes; pressing Enter Game now opens the native client instead of repeating the successful update check. Room invitations still route to their selected room. Local project shortcuts use the same registered protocol as the website.

This maintenance release retains the 0.3.6 game executable and content/network identity. Existing rooms, characters and balance are compatible. The Sanctuary progression/profile expansion remains separate and under validation. Signed update manifest and archive integrity checks remain active. Existing compatible game data is still required on first preparation; trusted publisher Authenticode signing is not yet available.

Returns from Darkness HD 0.3.6

Connection hotfix for new installations. The native companion now reads Windows environment paths as Unicode and writes its readiness/status files atomically. The previous companion failed in profile paths containing accented or non-Latin characters. A clean new-account creator test reproduced the failure in 0.3.5 and passed with this correction.

The launcher keeps the first-installation data selector in front, copies files without freezing the interface, validates the matching resource package and renews room invitations after long preparation. Missing/truncated data is reported explicitly. Damaged installed packages are repaired from the signed release while character files remain outside version folders. Account/update requests have bounded network timeouts. Startup failures produce a local diagnostic with credentials removed.

The current Sanctuary progression/profile expansion is not part of this maintenance release. Existing characters, rates and multiplayer rules are preserved. Whole-world HD art, host migration, browser gameplay and authoritative ranked PvP remain unfinished. Existing compatible game data is still required during first preparation. This package uses a signed update manifest; trusted-publisher Authenticode signing is not yet available.

The launcher automatically selects the Windows UI language, with all 14 website languages, readable Unicode font fallbacks and Arabic text direction. The Discord entry is prominent in the website header, first screen and community hub.

Website room invitations now sign the same account into the native community hub. Opening the community from a signed-in game or launcher signs into the browser through a short-lived, one-use authorization. Passwords and reusable session tokens are never included in launch links; native sessions are protected by Windows DPAPI.

Native text entry no longer replaces the final character with the blinking cursor. Character/account forms use native menu fonts and centered controls. The project/version footer appears at the bottom-left of the full menu screen. The illustrated launcher keeps Gothic headings and readable ordinary button, slogan and footer fonts.

The launcher checks the signed latest release before opening or resuming the client, routes repeated invitations to the existing account controller, and supports separate accounts in two clients. Saves remain outside version directories. Community and website copy describe the current client in 14 languages.

Validation: native form input and glyph stability, one-use authorization destination/account checks, replay/expiry/logout/race rejection; public website registration, rooms and browser account return; old launcher update, concurrent checks, save preservation and signature tampering; two native accounts with shared world, drops and reload. Public workflow checks are repeated after deployment. External graphical play across four separate PCs and authoritative ranked PvP remain unverified.

The community runs in cloud services; the room creator's client hosts gameplay. Whole-world HD replacement, automatic host migration and browser gameplay remain unfinished. Existing game data is imported during preparation. Source changes and original notices are in client-source.

The signed update manifest and SHA-256 checksums verify package integrity. The Windows executable does not yet have a trusted publisher Authenticode certificate; Windows/browser reputation warnings may still appear.
