Alpha5.1 — battery getter and clean-build fixes
Pre-releaseAlpha5.1 — battery getter and clean-build fixes
Kernel source: d810c755d21c6345782947c6dc978cc455df8e73.
Helpers and updated investigation notes: c18c9846498862fe38369cf694748dce644df767.
Built locally with the verified Neutron Clang 18 archive. Kernel/module release string remains 4.14.364-NetHunter-VST-Alpha5.
Changes
- Return ENODATA for two write-only Samsung battery controls instead of exposing uninitialized integers. Setters and charging limits are preserved.
- Fix clean O= builds: embed firmware generated from tracked .ihex files from the output directory; retain source paths for prebuilt blobs. Track the source firmware Makefile as a wrapper dependency.
- Pass host linker options only at link time; correct const handling in modpost.
- Emit the bpfilter link warning only when bpfilter is enabled. No networking capability was disabled by this change.
Checked on this binary
On SM-A515F, EvolutionX Android16 and Magisk30.7: boot, root, charging, matching slcan, automatic statsd startup and battery-recorder restart passed. Both battery-control reads now return ENODATA and uevent omits the arbitrary values. Ramdisk, DTB and boot parameters were preserved. The normal Magisk skip_initramfs replacement was retained.
Raw Image SHA256: da2d33d2c22e5494541f6dbb1b98adbc780adaabcda94b4333454a54a95d644f.
After first unlock on this hotfix, the user confirmed Termux works and TikTok opened on the first attempt in about 20 seconds. Slow startup and previously recorded late native crashes remain open. This is a prerelease, not certification for other phones or ROMs.
A 1200MiB/10-minute TCP Wi-Fi transfer passed checksum with a stable HAL before this hotfix reboot; that is a test of the preceding Alpha5 binary. The vendor LLS ABI remains a workaround.
Included
AnyKernel ZIP, raw Image, effective config, matching slcan/br_netfilter modules, nine Magisk packages, helper/audit/source-patch tools, BUILD_INFO and SHA256SUMS.
Evolution services.jar and TTMod native overlays require matching local inputs and are not bundled. Phone images, app libraries, private logs and SD backups are not published.
Still open
- TTMod has two recorded late native crashes after the visibility workaround. The updated developer report identifies ART Class::SetStatus; initialization/publication race is a hypothesis. This kernel does not claim to fix that app bug.
- Background battery use still needs controlled idle comparison; the battery getter fix alone is not a battery-life claim.
- Powered-off charging/watchdog test was deferred; RAM, long-term radio/Wi-Fi and chroot lifecycle tests continue.
- The matching ROM NetworkTraffic source patch is prepared, not compiled. The compact runtime indicator remains applied; LiveBoot colors and logging are preserved.
GitHub Actions is manual-only. The attempted hosted run was rejected before any runner started because of the account's billing lock; this release was built and verified locally.
Separate terminal add-on, 2026-10-06
VST-NetHunter-Terminal-Fix-Alpha5.1-r2.zip updates only the SD/terminal Magisk
module (versionCode5012), from source commit579c2e0e1. Its separate .zip.sha256
file verifies the add-on; the original eight release assets are unchanged.
This add-on checks chroot terminfo and retains a controlling PTY for explicitly
selected interactive programs. Kali/ANDRAX/Stryker shell Ctrl+C, quoted arguments,
file fsync/reread and local-network tests passed.
Kali PowerShell7.6.6 was installed separately on the inspected phone from the
official Microsoft ARM64 archive, preserving the old install and user profile.
It is not included in this add-on. Version/profile/file/hash tests passed; its
interactive Ctrl+C still failed the interruption timing check and remains open.
An incoming call also exposed162 fallback com.android.dialer crashes when Koler
held the DIALER role. Koler was retained at the user's request; no call-UI or
permission-bypass fix is claimed. See docs/CHROOT_VALIDATION.md and OPEN_ISSUES.
Recommended terminal add-on: terminal3
Use VST-NetHunter-Terminal-Fix-Alpha5.1-r3.zip (versionCode5013), source
commitdc2942fb9, instead of the earlier terminal2 add-on. It additionally fixes
new PTY allocation inside Kali/ANDRAX/Stryker: the single-file legacy ptmx bind
is replaced by a chroot-local pts/ptmx symlink, with Android permissions intact.
Python openpty/data exchange and nested util-linux script/Bash Ctrl+C passed
in all three roots. The 30-second sleep was interrupted in about0.35seconds
and the next command completed. These fixes were applied to the inspected phone
without reflashing or another reboot. PowerShell-specific Ctrl+C remains open.
The original kernel and other eight assets are unchanged.
