PlayerVox OverCrow 0.7.3-beta.1
PlayerVox OverCrow 0.7.3-beta.1
PlayerVox OverCrow 0.7.3-beta.1 is a public beta that follows 0.7.2-beta.1:
it sends three short messages of its own with the anonymous statistics,
fixes security issues, and finishes renaming its Windows shortcuts. If
something goes wrong, open Diagnostics → Report a problem in the
Control Center.
Before you update
- Linux, from 0.6.0-beta.1: after updating PlayerVox OverCrow, quit it
from the tray and open it again, once. Later updates restart it on their
own. - Windows: if updating from OverCrow fails (for example with Avast),
install the new version from the
download page, over the
previous one. - From 0.7.1 or earlier: also read the
0.7.2-beta.1 notes
(launch at startup, legal links, the name) and, from 0.6, the
0.7.0-beta.1 notes.
Anonymous statistics: three new messages
PlayerVox OverCrow now sends three messages of its own, as part of the
anonymous statistics. Each one holds exactly the event, nothing else: no
widget, no day, no identifier of you or your computer.
{"event":"installed"}: once per installation, the day after it is first
used.{"event":"sharing_off","counted":true}(orfalse): once, when you
switch the statistics off. It is the last message sent.{"event":"sharing_on"}: when you switch them back on.
They tell us what share of players switch the statistics off, so that the
active installations shown for each widget also count those players.
Settings → Share anonymous statistics still turns everything off and
shows the last message, as it was sent. The Widgets page shows its
statistics sentence once more, and the
privacy policy
describes these messages word for word.
Security
- Windows: the FPS capture service is hardened: its setup loads Windows
components only from Windows itself, and it serves only the person at
the computer. Over Remote Desktop, FPS shows "—". - Linux: only the PlayerVox OverCrow Control Center can install widgets
or grant their permissions.
Fixes
- Windows: updating from the app now renames the "OverCrow" Start menu
and desktop shortcuts to PlayerVox OverCrow, as the installer does, and
removes the downloaded installer once the update is done.
The name
The terms of use, the privacy policy, the creator agreement and the
publication rules now say PlayerVox OverCrow. Nothing changes in
substance.
Compatibility
PlayerVox OverCrow supports, unchanged since 0.6.0-beta.1: Hyprland 0.55+,
KDE Plasma 6, GNOME 46–50, X11 with an EWMH window manager, Windows 10
1809+ and Windows 11 x64. Windowed and borderless fullscreen games only.

PlayerVox OverCrow 0.7.2-beta.1
PlayerVox OverCrow 0.7.2-beta.1
PlayerVox OverCrow 0.7.2-beta.1 is a public beta that follows 0.7.1-beta.1:
it can start with your computer, links to its terms and privacy policy, and
fixes small things on Windows and GNOME. If something goes wrong, open
Diagnostics → Report a problem in the Control Center.
Before you update
- Linux, from 0.6.0-beta.1: after updating PlayerVox OverCrow, quit it
from the tray and open it again, once. Later updates restart it on their
own. - Windows: if updating from OverCrow fails (for example with Avast),
install the new version from the
download page, over the
previous one. - From 0.6 or earlier: also read the
0.7.0-beta.1 notes
(publishers, widget pages, ratings, anonymous statistics) and, from 0.5,
the steps in the
0.6.0-beta.1 notes.
What's new
- Launch at startup. PlayerVox OverCrow can start when you sign in, in
the notification area, without its window, started or stopped as you left
it: Settings → Launch OverCrow at startup, off by default. On GNOME,
the icon needs an AppIndicator extension. On Hyprland started without
uwsm, Settings shows the line to add to your configuration. - Legal texts. About links to the Terms of use and the
Privacy policy; the first-run guide and Settings link to the
privacy policy. - The name. Windows, titles and sentences now say PlayerVox OverCrow;
buttons and menus keep "OverCrow". On Windows, updating renames the Start
menu and desktop shortcuts, the entry in Installed apps and the FPS
capture service. - A spare catalog key. The app also trusts a spare catalog key, kept
offline, so that the widget catalog can keep being published if the main
key is ever lost.
Fixes
- Windows: after an update, the desktop no longer keeps the old
shortcut's icon until you refresh it. - GNOME: while the overlay runs, the dock and the dash show the
PlayerVox OverCrow icon instead of a generic application. - In French, Démarrer OverCrow stays on one line in the default window.
Anonymous statistics
Unchanged since 0.7.0-beta.1: PlayerVox OverCrow shares anonymous statistics
with the creators of your widgets, on by default, never an identifier of
you or your computer. Settings → Share anonymous statistics turns them
off and shows the last message, as it was sent.
Compatibility
PlayerVox OverCrow supports, unchanged since 0.6.0-beta.1: Hyprland 0.55+,

OverCrow 0.7.1-beta.1
OverCrow 0.7.1-beta.1
OverCrow 0.7.1-beta.1 is a public beta that polishes 0.7.0-beta.1: a new
Settings page, icons that match the PlayerVox logo and your theme, and
fixes for Linux and Windows. If something goes wrong, open
Diagnostics → Report a problem in the Control Center.
Before you update
- Linux, from 0.6.0-beta.1: after updating, quit OverCrow from the tray
and open it again, once. Later updates restart it on their own. - Windows: if updating from OverCrow fails (for example with Avast),
install the new version from the

0.7.0-beta.1 notes
(publishers, widget pages, ratings, anonymous statistics) and, from 0.5,
the steps in the
0.6.0-beta.1 notes.
What's new
- Settings. A new Settings page in the Control Center holds
Share anonymous statistics, moved from Diagnostics, and, on Linux,
Remove from desktop, moved from About, to use before you uninstall. - Linux: the statistics switch now works while OverCrow is stopped,
before the first Start OverCrow too. - Verified domain badges now follow the publisher everywhere it is
named, PlayerVox included: the cards, a widget's page and its About
section, and the install and update window. - Icons. The app icon now has exactly the proportions of the PlayerVox
logo, and Plasma and other Qt launchers draw it again instead of an empty
green tile. The notification area shows the PlayerVox mark alone, white
on a dark bar and black on a light one, and follows your theme. On GNOME,
the icon needs an AppIndicator extension (Ubuntu has one). On Linux, a
bar themed against your desktop's theme can get the wrong colour. - Windows: after an update, the taskbar shows the new icon right away.
- Plasma (Wayland): the Control Center's window shows its icon in the
taskbar. If you wrote your own window rule for the class
overcrow-control, it is nowcom.playervox.OverCrow.
Anonymous statistics
Unchanged since 0.7.0-beta.1: OverCrow shares anonymous statistics with the
creators of your widgets, on by default. At most once a day, each widget
from the catalog is sent on its own: its ID and version, the day, your
system, the OverCrow version, whether it was shown, installed or removed,
and its error counts by type and position in its code. Never the text of an
error, an identifier of you or your computer, your account, your games or
the list of your widgets. PlayerVox does not store your IP address with the
statistics. Turn them off in Settings → Share anonymous statistics:
nothing more is sent. Settings also shows the last message, as it was sent.
Compatibility
Unchanged since 0.6.0-beta.1: Hyprland 0.55+, KDE Plasma 6, GNOME 46–50,

OverCrow 0.7.0-beta.1
OverCrow 0.7.0-beta.1
OverCrow 0.7.0-beta.1 is a public beta. The widget catalog now shows who
makes each widget and what players think of it, and OverCrow shares
anonymous statistics with widget creators. If something goes wrong, open
Diagnostics → Report a problem in the Control Center.
Before you update
- Linux, from 0.6.0-beta.1: after updating, quit OverCrow from the tray
and open it again, once. Later updates restart it on their own. - Windows: if updating from OverCrow fails (for example with Avast),
install the new version from the
download page, over the
previous one. - From 0.5: also follow the steps in the
0.6.0-beta.1 notes.
What's new
- Who makes a widget. The catalog shows each widget's publisher. A
creator's widgets can also show a Verified domain badge, when the
publisher proved its website, and the games they are made for, with a
Game filter in the catalog. - A page for each widget, with its preview, permissions and an
About section: publisher, version, games, languages, license, widget
ID and links. An update shows What's new and the permission it asks
for before you accept it. - Ratings. Rate a widget you installed from 0 to 100 under
Your rating, with your PlayerVox account. You can change or remove
your rating at any time; the creator only sees the average. Once enough
players have rated and installed a widget, the catalog and its page show
its rank, score, number of ratings and installations. - Report this widget, on a widget's page, opens a problem report that
names the widget. Nothing is sent until you submit it. - Widget links. A link such as
overcrow://widgets/<widget ID>, on the
OverCrow website for example, opens that widget's page in OverCrow. A link
never installs anything. - The PlayerVox brand. The exact PlayerVox logo everywhere in OverCrow,
and a new app icon, the dark mark on a green tile, easy to spot on light
taskbars and docks. After an update, the Windows taskbar can keep the
old icon until you next sign in. - Plasma: the KWin script now comes with the package. The next
Start OverCrow removes the copy earlier versions put in your home
folder. If you changed that copy by hand, Start OverCrow stops and
Diagnostics → KWin script says so: move the copy out of
~/.local/share/kwin/scripts, then start OverCrow again. - OverCrow refuses a widget whose name or menu labels hold invisible or
text-direction characters, so a widget cannot disguise its name.
Anonymous statistics
OverCrow now shares anonymous statistics with the creators of your
widgets. They are on by default. At most once a day, each widget from the
catalog is sent on its own: its ID and version, the day, your system, the
OverCrow version, whether it was shown, installed or removed, and its error
counts by type and position in its code. Never the text of an error, an
identifier of you or your computer, your account, your games or the list of
your widgets. PlayerVox does not store your IP address with the statistics.
Turn them off in Diagnostics → Share anonymous statistics: nothing more
is sent. Diagnostics also shows the last message, as it was sent.

overcrow-widget submitsends a version with your publish key and follows
its checks until it enters review;overcrow-widget statusshows where
each version stands. The creator space also shows your widgets' installs,
daily use, ratings and errors, traced back to your source files. - Stricter checks, as the creator space applies them: a widget name or
menu label with an invisible or text-direction character is refused, and
so is a file name that does not work on Windows (\ : * ? " < > |). @overcrow/mcplets an AI assistant create, check, test and package a

OverCrow 0.6.0-beta.2
OverCrow 0.6.0-beta.2
OverCrow 0.6.0-beta.2 is a public beta. It makes updates more reliable and
finishes what 0.6.0-beta.1 left open. If something goes wrong, open
Diagnostics → Report a problem in the Control Center.
Before you update
- Linux, from 0.6.0-beta.1: after updating, quit OverCrow from the tray
and open it again, once. Later updates restart it on their own. - Windows: If updating from OverCrow fails (for example with Avast),
install the new version from the
download page, over the
previous one. - From 0.5: also follow the steps in the
0.6.0-beta.1 notes.
What's new
- Linux: the Control Center restarts on its own after an update. If its
window is open, it shows OverCrow was updated. with a Restart
button. While you play, OverCrow switches to the new version after your
game. - Widget updates show what changes. Before you accept an update, its
permissions list the sites and addresses the widget reaches, grouped by
site, with new and changed ones marked. A new game event is marked too. - Linux: Remove from desktop. Before you uninstall the package, open
About → Uninstall OverCrow → Remove from desktop. OverCrow stops and
removes what it added to your desktop; your settings and widgets stay. - Windows: Open OverCrow is checked at the end of setup.
Updates
- Windows: when an antivirus briefly holds the downloaded update,
OverCrow tries again instead of failing. - Errors now say what happened: GitHub limiting requests from your
connection, a file blocked by your antivirus, or an update OverCrow couldn't
save. When the release page is the way out, its button comes first. - Checking for updates asks GitHub less often, and on Windows the installer
downloads from the release's public link: a shared connection reaches
GitHub's limit less easily. - Check now right after a failed download keeps showing that error
instead of saying the check failed. - Problem reports gain an Updates section; on Windows they also give the
Windows build and the name of your antivirus. - Windows: updates no longer leave old copies of the built-in widgets
behind, and uninstalling removes them.
Compatibility
Unchanged since 0.6.0-beta.1: Hyprland 0.55+, KDE Plasma 6, GNOME 46–50,
X11 with an EWMH window manager, Windows 10 1809+ and Windows 11 x64.
Windowed and borderless fullscreen games only.

- Creator tools, one ZIP per platform:
overcrow-creator-tools-0.6.0-beta.2-linux-x86_64.zipand
overcrow-creator-tools-0.6.0-beta.2-windows-x86_64.zip. Each holds the
widget CLIovercrow-widget1.0.0-beta.2, the headless runtime
0.6.0-beta.2, their licenses and notices, a README and aSHA256SUMS.
They replace the separate files of 0.6.0-beta.1. - The CLI downloads its runtime. The first
overcrow-widget test
fetches the headless runtime the CLI pins from its platform's ZIP, checks
its SHA-256 and keeps only the runtime.--offlinenever downloads;

OverCrow 0.6.0-beta.1
OverCrow 0.6.0-beta.1
OverCrow 0.6.0-beta.1 is a public beta. It brings a new widget engine and
fixes found while testing it. If something goes wrong, open
Diagnostics → Report a problem in the Control Center.
Before you update
- After updating, quit OverCrow from the tray and open it again.
- Plasma: after the update, open the Control Center and click
Start OverCrow once. Until then the old desktop script stays loaded, and
the one in 0.5.0 and 0.5.1 can crash KWin. - Stopwatch on Linux: its shortcuts are now Super+Alt+T (start or
pause) and Super+Alt+Z (reset), on every desktop. Windows doesn't change. - Plasma: KDE asks once to accept the stopwatch shortcuts (Meta+Alt+T
and Meta+Alt+Z); the old ones are removed for you. - Ubuntu: the package now installs the widget sandbox's AppArmor profile
for you. Nothing to set up. - Widgets from the catalog: widgets you installed in 0.5 must be installed
again from Widgets → Catalog. Built-in widgets keep their place and
options.
What's new
- New widget engine. Each widget runs alone in its own sandbox, with only
the permissions it was given. - Permissions in the Control Center. Before installing a widget, see what
it asks for and uncheck what it may not use. A widget's page lets you allow
or take back each permission later. - Signed catalog. Widgets and their updates come from a signed catalog.
Built-in widgets are included with OverCrow and install even offline.
Notable fixes
- Widgets no longer go blank or lose their content after a widget's size
changes. - The size slider of a widget's menu stays in place while you drag it.
- Built-in widgets use one even margin, set by their frame.
- Live values such as FPS and CPU keep their last reading through short gaps
instead of blanking. - A widget you hide and show again comes back to its place, in front of the
others; clicking a widget brings it to the front. - Widgets start with the overlay; no need to restart it.
- When two widgets overlap, the toolbar of the one on top stays usable.
- The move handle takes your accent colour.
- Resizing a widget keeps its top-left corner in place.
- Windows: Open Twitch opens Twitch again.
- Linux: the Control Center manages your widgets without a game running.
- New widget previews in the catalog, shown at their real size.
- Warframe Market 3.1.0 arrives through the catalog, not with this update:
Sellers and Buyers tabs, every online offer, and a refresh button. - Plasma 6: KWin could crash about a minute after a window closed while
OverCrow was on. This came with 0.5.0 and 0.5.1. - Hyprland: making the overlay fullscreen no longer leaves a blank screen.
- Hyprland: back on the game's workspace in Interactive mode, the keyboard
goes to OverCrow again. - Hyprland: a browser opened from a widget no longer hides under a floating
game. - A note saved just before OverCrow stops is no longer lost.
- Linux without a keyring: your PlayerVox and Twitch sign-ins are kept in a
private file in your home folder. - Windows: OverCrow uses much less CPU in Interactive mode.
- Widgets stay in your language after the overlay restarts.
- Linking a PlayerVox account works when no browser was open yet.
- Windows: the Control Center no longer stays on "Action required" after a
short-lived window took the foreground. - Windows: opening OverCrow while setup waits for approval now says what to
do.

OverCrow 0.5.1-beta.1
Beta release 0.5.1-beta.1.
PlayerVox interface improvements
- Aligned the two cards on the PlayerVox page to the same height, with actions anchored at the bottom.
- Redesigned the PlayerVox invitation with a neutral background, the PlayerVox logo, clearer text and a discreet dismiss button.
- Placed the invitation at the top of Overview, with consistent spacing below the header divider and above the status card.
- Improved the invitation layout for narrower windows, in both English and French.
More predictable account invitations
The invitation now waits until the account state has loaded and appears only when disconnected without an account error. It stays hidden while linking an account, when offline, when a connection has expired, or when secure storage is unavailable.
Dismissing the invitation is remembered on this device. Completing or skipping the PlayerVox onboarding step also hides it. The PlayerVox page remains available in the sidebar at any time.
Your settings, linked accounts, widget profiles and session history are preserved when updating.
x64 packages are available for Arch, Ubuntu 24.04, Fedora 43, and Windows. Windows support remains experimental.
OverCrow 0.5.0-beta.1
Beta release 0.5.0-beta.1.
Per-game widget profiles
Each detected Steam game automatically restores its enabled widgets, positions, sizes, and settings. Custom or unrecognized games use the shared profile.
The active profile stays visible in the top-right corner of the widget catalog, even while scrolling. The linked PlayerVox account row has been removed to keep the header clean.
Fixes and reliability improvements
- Fixed the styling of the PlayerVox account linking confirmation page in Windows builds.
- Simplified profile loading and reduced background processing.
- Improved settings persistence to prevent conflicts between processes.
Your settings, linked accounts, and session history are preserved when updating.
x64 packages are available for Arch, Ubuntu 24.04, Fedora 43, and Windows. Windows support remains experimental.
OverCrow 0.4.0-beta.1
OverCrow 0.4.0-beta.1 is a prerelease for testers on Windows x64 and Linux x64 (Arch, Ubuntu 24.04 and Fedora 43).
Changes in this beta:
- Added PlayerVox community scores with the familiar rating badge and optional overall score, three criteria, game title and rating count.
- Added optional PlayerVox account linking during onboarding, in the Control Center and in the overlay, with localized browser confirmation and connected-device management.
- Added My rating and paginated Player reviews, including translations, original-text controls and an optional followed-players filter. Event-driven updates keep enabled widgets current without refreshing unrelated editors or discarding drafts.
- Added a local session journal for authorized Steam games and manually added games, even without an account or a visible journal widget. Sessions use durable checkpoints, restart recovery, pagination and confirmed deletion. Optional PlayerVox synchronization includes existing local Steam history; manually added games without a Steam identity remain local.
- Improved interactive overlay focus recovery when returning to a game's Hyprland workspace.
- Refined widget typography, branding, sizing and account actions, and simplified the connected-account page in the Control Center.
- Added remembered Stable/Beta update channels, clearer update status and verified installation flows, including Install and restart for managed Windows installations and FPS service maintenance.
- Removed obsolete widget and refresh paths, simplified state handling and consolidated API validation while retaining existing settings and journal compatibility.
Upgrading from the published 0.3.0-beta.1: download and install the package from this page; that older client predates Beta channel selection. From this beta onward, select the Beta channel in the Control Center to receive subsequent compatible beta updates. Existing settings and local history are preserved.
Choose the package matching your system and verify it against SHA256SUMS. The release.json manifest describes each package. Checksums verify integrity; they are not a publisher signature.
Windows remains experimental, and this beta does not establish live-game acceptance on every supported desktop or graphics setup. Full application or system failures recover the last saved session checkpoint; time after that checkpoint may be lost. Please report installation, focus, synchronization and journal issues during testing.
OverCrow 0.3.0-beta.1
OverCrow 0.3.0-beta.1 is a prerelease for testers, available for Windows x64 and Linux x64 (Arch, Ubuntu 24.04 DEB, Fedora 43 RPM).
Changes in this beta:
- Improved first-click focus and input handling for interactive marketplace widgets on Windows.
- Reduced unnecessary widget rendering and worker wakeups, with bounded queues and resource handling to improve responsiveness under load.
- Improved recovery after widget runner replacement, marketplace detail previews and offline actions.
- Strengthened Windows FPS service communication, capture lifecycle and installation/removal recovery.
- Fixed Windows DNS compatibility for immediate native responses, while retaining bounded background work and request deadlines.
- Improved Linux process startup deadlines and FPS measurement freshness.
- Updated vulnerable dependencies and introduced explicit, versioned native releases with package checksums.
Download the package matching your system from this release. Check its SHA-256 against SHA256SUMS; release.json describes every package. These checksums provide integrity checks, not a publisher signature.
This is a beta, not a stable release. Automated CI and native package builds do not establish live game, compositor or installation acceptance on every supported system. Please report installation, focus, responsiveness and resource-pressure issues during testing.
The Control Center currently checks the stable channel. This beta must be downloaded from this page; Windows installation remains manual. No stable release is published with this beta.
