• that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • Umamusume: Pretty Derby (3224770) #8848 is for Global (except JP) release (different AppID), this report is for JP-exclusive release.
• that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

the Game will silently fail to launch, without showing any window or error dialog.

according to Proton's logs, the Game trying to load CrackProof kernel module and fails because of lacks WDFLDR.sys.

since Global Release is seemingly (partially?) working according to #8848 , maybe Cygames doesn't want to run on the Linux for Japan peoples :(

I didn't tried it, but I don't think GE 10.3 would help me, since in JP release, the game will not even open any window, while #8848 (global release) says at least window will open and can see Cygames logo.

The game window doesn't show up and it just crashes.

after asking a friend (they're on windows 11) to send their WdfLdr.sys (and placing it in drive_c/windows/system32/drivers/), it also began to ask for WppRecorder.sys

Those who want to reproduce but are not in japan will need to make a new steam account with japanese vpn, otherwise you won't be able to download the game. If you can't find the game in steam just try to open it through the browser (you will still need to use japanese vpn).

The global release launches just fine for me (haven't tried to fully play it but it at least launches and I'm able to download the game content).

@jacquavantius I guess this is because GE have a stub for WDFLDR.sys https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/blob/721202767a56e1776c9783a7004bcc0a3311845a/patches/wine-hotfixes/wine-wayland/0154-wdfldr.sys-Add-stub-dll.patch#L9 but they are just stub, so you could load usrdrv017864.sys but can't property runs usrdrv017864.sys.

Same issue here as of July 30th, 2026 using 7.1.5 Zen, GE 10-34 and the NVIDIA 580.173.02 drivers.
