Steam won't open (Blank screen during first 'real' boot)

Update: THis is the same problem that MANY other people have faced. 2 monitors plugged into the main video card doesn't work properly when booting. YOu need to unplug one until it is booted, then you can plug it in and it will work as a second monitor for desktop mode. Thanks to Toetje583 for figuring everything out.

Install all worked great. Post_logon.sh worked great. Got my recovery partition setup great. Steam doesn't open. I have managed to get it to boot without going directly to steam and thus I have a display to work with. When it was autobooting to steam, I would have both monitors on, but no display or mouse or anything.

On line 117, I get the error: (EE) Failed to load module "nv" (module does not exist, 0)
I am posting an except from my Xorg log file with a link to the full thing. What do I need to do for this to work? Any ideas? Thanks!!!

I have been looking all over the where SteamOS is putting my Xorg.conf file to do just that. I would have expected something like /etc/Xorg/Xorg.conf or maybe /etc/X11/Xorg.conf, or maybe /usr/share/[X11|Xorg]/Xorg.conf, but none of them have it. Do you know where to find my file? :)

It doesen't create one, just see my instructions above.
Removing one card would also fix the problem i believe if you can't get it solved now, SteamOS is in early stage so.

just do this:
You can also try to:

apt-get install pkg-config

wget http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/contrib/n/nvidia-xconfig/nvidia-xconfig_195.36.31-1_amd64.deb
dpkg -i nvidia-xconfig*

sudo nvidia-xconfig

This wil generate a new x11 config file for you.

Well, I did run and get the nvidia up. Greated new xorg.conf file for me. No longer gives me the error listed above, which suggests that that was just an error that wasn't really stopping me from working.

EDIT: I'm stupid. I can't Ctrl+Alt+F1, but I can do 2-6. So I was just wrong on this part.

Let me do some more testing and tinkering...

'removing 1 card' do you mean actually take it out? Or can I just unplug the spare monitor?

I have not physically removed the card. Kind of hard to gain access to that... I will get to it in like an hour.

But besides that, it is still not booting. If the issue comes from Steam not knowing how to handle 2 physical cards, this certainly should fix it. I wish there was a log file for the Steam application and not just the system...

you could try different ports!, make sure you have video cabel in port 1, don't get the card out there are more ways :)

Yup, it is. All three monitors are identical as well, so swapping around won't fix anything either. Gimme a bit and i'll post results of removal.

Well if it works, it still not a satified result, i would try to read more about xorg, I believe you can add the buss id from the first nvidia card to the xorg config file, see http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=86344, maybe it will help you.

i don't think big picture will boot in stretched screen mode, so see if you can disable the second card and only use one monitor, until SteamOS can deal with it:)

Cool, I will look into that. I suspect that Steam right now is just grabbing all video cards or something like that. I'm sure that it will get more solved in the future. Just gotta figure out exactly what the problem is...

set it up for BusID "PCI:1:0:0" in the device section. WIll reboot and test now.
