Steam Deck's Onscreen Keyboard not working

Whenever I play a game for a while, non-steam games make it quicker, eventually I notice that whenever I press steam + X to bring up the on-screen keyboard, it doesn't appear, unless there is another overlay element on-screen (e.g the quick access menu, the steam overlay, a virtual menu, etc) and when it does appear it does react to any input. The only way to it to work is to:

1. Open Quick Access
2. Go down the on-screen keyboard button
3. Click it.
   Also when the keyboard is supposed to be hidden it will not appear in the overlays.
   I can still toggle the keyboard but it just won't appear.

I've been having a similar issue in Desktop Mode and in Game Mode.
For the former, I have to restart the Steam program, and for the latter, the program being used.
Also, sometimes, after opening the keyboard, it won't respond for several seconds, and quickly typing a lot causes issues.

I have the same issue, though I've only noticed it on non-steam Games. It seems like the keyboard stops working after some period of no use. So if I use the keyboard right when I start the game, then again every couple of minutes, it seems to work consistently. But if I don't use it for a while then it won't open at all when I need it.

None of steam + x, the button I've bound to show keyboard in my control scheme, or holding steam and then pressing x once the options display work.

I also encounter this problem. I play Diablo 2: Resurrected through the Battle.net launcher, and when I want to type something in the launcher or in the in-game chat, I can't bring up the keyboard.

Also having this issue when I play Minecraft on the deck. The keyboard will not seem to respond when I try to open it with with the steam + x hotkey, but then appear on-screen when either of my touchpad overlays are shown. Though even when it appears in this fashion, it is not ineractable. When I attempt to hold it open by keeping one of the Trackpad overlays on screen, the keyboard will not respond to inputs on the touch screen either.

Pressing steam + x again in this situation will toggle whether I see the keyboard when overlays are on screen, but will not fix the issue. I seem to need to exit the software I am playing in order for the keyboard to behave as normal again

All of my testing is in game mode playing Minecraft as a non-steam game

This has been happening to me for months too. I thought it was an exclusive problem with Microsoft Edge but it's also happening with Minecraft.

In "game mode" (not desktop), playing minecraft through prism

• steam+x stops working (honestly worked fine for a couple hours I think?)
• keyboard will not show up, but I can see a tantalizing glimpse of it when I rage press the Steam button, just before the menu loads
• I add a shortcut to my layout
• shit doesn't work
• tries to fix through command settings: toggle, no toggle, fire commands while touching...
• shit doesn't work
• I remove the "show keyboard" command altogether- the custom layout i downloaded already had a keyboard shortcut and I think, "perhaps there can't be multiple keyboard shortcuts if I wanna make use of the Steam+X one???"

Yes still broken. btw the ...-method always works to bring up the keyboard, but its way more tedious to use.

I too have this issue with Minecraft and PrismLauncher, bur found a workaround: If I go to the homescreen or my library and press Steam+x and then go back into the game, the keyboard is working again. Its either visible and interactable or hidden and disabled. Only downside (apart from having to leave the game) is that the prismlauncher window (showing the game console/log) is active. I have to manually switch back to the game window

I'm on SteamOS on an all AMD machine with new hardware and this shortcut was working well for me. Now, for some reason, it doesn't work. All of the other Steam+ shortcuts work still. It's just the keyboard one that doesn't function.
