GreyHaven 1.0: will Linux work on your PC?

GreyHaven checks the parts inside your Windows PC, tells you which version of Linux fits best, and walks you through switching, one step at a time.

Install

Download GreyHaven-Setup.exe below and double-click it. Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit (Intel or AMD).

"Windows protected your PC"? GreyHaven is new, so Windows hasn't seen many people download it yet. Click More info, then Run anyway. You can check the file with the fingerprints in SHA256SUMS.txt.

Also here: GreyHaven.msi for IT admins (msiexec /i GreyHaven.msi /qn), and GreyHaven-portable.zip, which runs without installing.

What's in 1.0

  • Check your PC: every part rated for Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, Linux Mint 22.3 and Pop!_OS 24.04, using the Linux versions' own driver lists. Nothing is guessed: unknown parts say "Not sure".
  • Your apps and games: what works on Linux, what to use instead, and Check a game for any game (ProtonDB reports and the Are We Anti-Cheat Yet list, searched on your PC).
  • Pick your Linux: plain pros and cons for each, and a suggestion for your PC.
  • A guided switch: keep Windows too or replace it; back up; get Windows ready; GreyHaven downloads Linux, checks its official signature, makes and checks your USB stick, and puts the next steps on your phone with a QR code; then it restarts your PC into the stick.
  • Safe by design: scanning needs no admin rights; every change explains itself and asks Windows' permission for that one thing; only USB drives are ever erased, after you tick a box naming them.
  • Private: your files and app list never leave your PC. Online checks send part ID numbers only, and can be turned off.
  • Light and dark mode, High Contrast, full keyboard and screen reader support.

Known limits

  • Not tested yet on Windows on Arm, or with BitLocker-encrypted drives and standard (non-admin) Windows accounts on real PCs. If something goes wrong there, please open an issue.
  • Not code-signed yet (that's why Windows warns). Signing is next.
