🚀 Overview

This release brings major UI improvements and expands the gesture system with 2 new utility gestures for Clear and Backspace operations. The calculator now features a complete professional UI rendering system with real-time visual feedback, making the interaction more intuitive and polished.

✨ What's New

🖐️ Two New Gestures

Extended the gesture vocabulary from 8 to 10 gestures with utility operations:

  • 🖖 Middle + Ring Fingers: Clear (C) - Reset calculator to initial state
  • 🤘 Index + Pinky Fingers: Backspace (<) - Delete last character/digit

These additions make error correction and calculator reset operations natural and gesture-based, eliminating the need to click on-screen buttons for these common actions.

🎨 Complete UI Renderer Module

Brand new UI rendering system (ui/ui_renderer.py) with professional, modular architecture:

  • Webcam Feed Integration - Real-time camera view with proper positioning
  • Gesture Indicator Panel - Shows currently detected gesture with visual feedback
  • Operation Display - Clear view of current mathematical operation
  • Result Display - Large, readable result panel
  • Debug Panel - Development information (optional)
  • FPS Counter - Performance monitoring
  • Calculator Button Grid - Properly aligned button layout matching design specifications

✅ Visual Feedback System

  • Green Hover Effect - Real-time highlight on the calculator button corresponding to the detected gesture
  • Instant Visual Response - Users get immediate confirmation when a gesture is recognized
  • Improved UX - Clear visual affordance makes the interaction more intuitive

📝 Improved Text Rendering

  • Proper Font Sizing - Text now fits correctly within all UI boxes and buttons
  • Better Alignment - Text is properly centered in buttons and display panels
  • Readability - Enhanced contrast and sizing for better visibility

📚 Documentation Updates

📖 Comprehensive README Overhaul

The README has been completely rewritten to provide:

  • Complete Gesture Map - All 10 gestures with emojis and clear descriptions
  • Detailed "How It Works" - Step-by-step guide with practical example (15 + 8)
  • Accurate Project Structure - Reflects actual implementation (removed placeholder files)
  • Documentation Hub - Links to all guides (GESTURE_GUIDE, ROADMAP, CHANGELOG)
  • Current Status Section - Version info and known limitations
  • Updated Requirements - Docker is now optional, Python is primary requirement

📋 Updated Gesture Guide

  • Added documentation for the 2 new gestures (Clear and Backspace)
  • Updated interaction flow examples
  • Refined design principles section
