The macOS app is signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple. The Windows installers are not yet code-signed, so SmartScreen will ask for confirmation on first run.

Installed copies check this repository for updates and offer them in the status bar; latest.json and Markdown.app.tar.gz are what that check reads.
