Git Vertex VS Code Extension v1.33.0

Changed

  • The commit pane stops guessing, twice. The next-steps card it shows on a clean working tree was drawn from the state the pane starts with — empty — so it appeared for a frame on every repository as you opened it, however many files were waiting to be staged. It now waits until the working tree has actually been read: on a repository with changes, the file list is the first thing you see. And a commit message you have already typed keeps its form: a draft outlives the changes it was written for — discard them, or stash them, and the words are still yours — where before the card replaced it and took your own text off the screen without deleting it. An amend being written was already excluded; this is the same rule, applied to the other way a commit is in progress.
  • The settings say what they change, and when they are kept. The page held two kinds of setting and presented them identically: what belongs to this extension, and what writes Git's own global configuration — which every git client on the machine reads afterwards. The identity fields now carry a chip naming the file and the key they write, Git global · user.name, because saving them runs git config --global and that is not a fact you should have to know. The fields that only look git-shaped carry nothing. And each block says once how it is saved — Saved as you change it. or Nothing here is saved until you press Save. — instead of leaving you to find out by watching. The identity's description said these values "sign your commits", directly above nothing of the sort; it now says what they are, the name and email your commits are authored with.
