Camping guide

How camps work in World of Warcraft: Forever. Everything here was checked in the beta client (1.60.1); points still unknown are marked as such.

In short

  1. Someone with Cooking lights a campfire.
  2. Players with other professions place camp objects next to it.
  3. Everyone who sits by the fire for 1 minute gets Camp Benefits for 1 hour: the bonuses of every object in the camp.

Campfires

A campfire is made with Cooking and placed from your bags. It works as a cooking fire, and it gives the camp its places for objects:

Campfire Cooking Places
Basic Campfire 1 3
Journeyman Campfire 140 5
Expert Campfire 220 10

Some guides give 90 for the Journeyman Campfire; the beta client asks for 140.

How long a fire burns is not confirmed yet.

Camp objects

Every gathering and crafting profession, plus First Aid and Fishing, has a line of three objects:

  • Tier 1 (skill 20) usually gives a stat bonus to everyone at the camp: Strength, Intellect, Stamina, Spirit, mana regeneration and so on. The Leatherworking tent gives rested experience instead, the Engineering bot sells reagents.
  • Tier 2 (skill 140) and tier 3 (skill 300) add something useful to the camp: a crafting station, a reagent maker, an ore vein, rare fish, a vendor with repairs.
  • Cooking has the campfires instead, plus Cookie's Feast (140) and the Iron Oven (300).
  • Most higher-tier objects are placed over the tier 1 object of their line and keep its bonus, so upgrading costs nothing.

The full list with numbers is on Camp objects.

How to learn the higher-tier objects is not fully known yet; in the beta client the tier 2 and tier 3 blueprints did not show up in the item data.

The bonuses

  • Stand near a burning campfire and sit down. After 60 seconds you get Camp Benefits for 1 hour.
  • The Camp Benefits tooltip lists every object of the camp with its effect.
  • Crafting at the fire counts as well as sitting, according to the campfire item text.
  • Each stat bonus is mutually exclusive with a class buff: the Lodestone with Blessing of Might, the Incense Candle with Arcane Intellect, and so on. You get one or the other, not both, so in a group with a paladin the Lodestone gives nothing.
  • The Camp Tent gives a separate aura, Boosted Rest, for 1 hour: more rested experience while you rest, up to 5% of a level, once per hour.

The shared cooldown

All camping items share one cooldown per character: a campfire and an object are both "camping items", so one character places one thing at a time. In the current beta build the cooldown is 5 minutes, although the item tooltips still say 1 hour; earlier builds used the full hour.

That is why camps are a group activity: a five-person group can put up a fire and four objects at once, while a single player has to wait for the cooldown between each one.

Placing objects

  • An object needs a campfire nearby and a free place at that fire.
  • You cannot place an object too close to another object or a creature.
  • While the cooldown is running the item is not usable yet.

How Campkeeper helps

  • The camp panel shows the fire, the free places, what is already in the camp, and which of your items you can add right now; one click places it.
  • Timers for sitting, Camp Benefits and the shared cooldown of every character of your account.
  • Camps on the map, shared with your guild and group.
  • A planner that decides who in the group lights the fire and who places which object, skipping bonuses your group already has from class buffs.
