This release makes dna check much faster at installing skills and sizes the action list and the F3 view to your terminal window. It also fixes a crash on Windows when an agent or a CI job runs the check. Package: Agentic.Check 2.4.1; InnoWvate.Agentic 2.4.0 and InnoWvate.Dna 1.0.0 are unchanged, and so are the directives and skills.

What's new

Skills install in parallel. Up to 48 skills are installed at a time instead of one after the other. Installing 84 skills went from 166 seconds to about 6 in our measurement. Results are still reported in list order.

The action list fits your window. The list showed at most 24 items, whatever the height of the window. It now uses the rows the window has: more items in a tall window, and in a short one the list no longer grows past the window.

The F3 view fills the window and leaves the screen as it was. A page is as tall as the window instead of 24 lines. The view opens on the terminal's alternate screen, as a pager does, so Esc brings back the list with the summary above it, exactly where they were. A terminal without an alternate screen shows the view over the list as before.

InnoWvate.Agentic follows the newest version in its major. A repository that has dotnet agentic installed is offered the update whenever nuget.org has a newer version in the same major, also when no selected directive or skill asks for it. A tool that is listed in the repository but not restored yet is updated to that version instead of restored to the old one.

Directives and skills may now ask for different minor versions. The -m in content that calls dotnet agentic is a minimum within one major, so one tool at or above the highest minor serves all of it. Only different majors conflict.

Improvements and fixes

  • Windows: the check starts when an agent or CI runs it. Agentic.Check crashed at startup on Windows when none of its input and output streams was a console, which is how agents and CI jobs start it. Versions 2.0.0 through 2.4.0 had this; a normal terminal was not affected.
  • An interrupted install leaves no half-written skill. Each skill is downloaded into a staging folder and moved into place only when it is complete. When an install fails or is cancelled, a skill that was already there stays as it was.
  • A GitHub slow-down is waited out. When GitHub temporarily limits requests, the check says so, waits 60 seconds and retries the remaining installs one at a time, and once more after 120 seconds. Skills that were installed stay installed. An exhausted hourly limit still ends the run with a message.
  • Ctrl+C in the F3 view returns the shell to its normal screen.
  • A clearer message when installed content asks for different majors of InnoWvate.Agentic. It names the files and the versions they ask for, and tells you to run dna check and apply the pending updates.
  • Tested on Ubuntu and Windows as well as macOS. The published packages are now run on all three before a release, including a first-time setup that installs 84 skills.

Upgrading from 2.4.0

Nothing to apply in your repositories. dna check runs the newest Agentic.Check by itself, and the directives, skills and InnoWvate.Agentic 2.4.0 are unchanged in this release.

Requirements

.NET 10 SDK and the GitHub CLI (gh). A GitHub login is optional.
