OpenMW-Web v1.5.2 — by Virtastic
The world simulator runs again. Since 1.5.0 the server's headless simulator, the "peer" that
plays every NPC, creature and quest script for all players at once, crashed the moment it started:
one new script file was missing from the install list, so every packaged server (prod, the GHCR
image, self-hosted installs) shipped without it. Each player's game then ran its own NPCs, which is
what made them jerky, out of step between players, and why scripted walks such as Fargoth's
lookout were never shared. The file is installed again, a test now fails on any script the native
install would miss, and the test harness checks the scripts the image really installed instead of
mounting the repository's over them.
Someone you are talking to stays put. In single player the world stops for a conversation;
here the simulator kept the NPC wandering, so it walked off on everyone else's screen and jumped
when the window closed. The NPC now waits until the conversation ends (or the talker walks away).
Archers keep shooting. The simulator's copy of you is an NPC body, and the engine only
re-equips a quiver for the player character, so once that body's equipped stack ran out the bow
dry-fired with arrows still in the pack. It now re-equips the stack you hold (and thrown weapons
in the hand) whenever the slot empties.
Visiting does not curse you for good. Dagoth Gares' dying curse used to land on every guest in
the room while the quest that cures it went to the host's journal. A guest who goes home without
that quest of their own no longer carries Corprus.
Signing in. The sign-in page says up front that you need your own copy of Morrowind on servers
where players upload their game files. The page's scripts are now named by content, so a cache can
no longer keep serving an old one after an update. Saves keep reaching the browser's storage when
it closes its database underneath the game.
New scenario: s184 walks Fargoth through his lookout route and checks it on a second player's
screen.
