@Vladimir-Podgornyi Vladimir-Podgornyi released this 21 Oct 12:54

New in 1.1.0:

  • Sleep when idle: in Run with Lid Closed, the Mac goes to sleep after the work is done.
  • Watched apps: choose an editor or terminal, and programs it started count as work for Sleep when idle.
  • Wake at: the Mac wakes at a set time every day; on power it turns on Run with Lid Closed.
  • Activity log: a window with what LidAwake did and why.
  • Accent: Blue, System or Amber; System follows the accent color of macOS.
  • Settings are grouped into Safety, Sleep and wake, and General.
  • Simplified Chinese.
  • The update check no longer depends on the GitHub API limit.

For Macs with Apple silicon, macOS 13 or later. An Intel build is in testing: v1.1.0-rc.1.

Test build for Intel Macs. Not a regular release yet: if the checks below pass on a real Intel Mac, this exact file will be published with LidAwake 1.0.2.

What's new in 1.0.2:

  • Simplified Chinese interface (translation by @chengliang4810).
  • A separate build for Intel Macs, signed and notarized.

The app does not offer this build as an update, so you can only get it here.

Checks

Before you start: if you still have a copy you built and signed yourself, quit it, run its --uninstall-helper, and delete it. The helper of that copy uses the same identifier.

  1. shasum -a 256 LidAwake-1.0.2-intel.dmg matches the value above.
  2. Drag LidAwake from the DMG to Applications and open it. macOS opens it without a warning about an unidentified developer.
  3. /Applications/LidAwake.app/Contents/MacOS/LidAwake --check-update prints update=none reason=no-intel-release current=1.0.2 files=intel (or update=none with a newer Intel release, if one exists by then).
  4. With the system language set to Simplified Chinese, the window is in Chinese and nothing is cut off. A screenshot of the window with Settings expanded helps.
  5. Keep Screen On: switch it on, wait a minute without touching the Mac, the screen stays on. Switch it off.
  6. Run with Lid Closed (on AC power): switch it on. The first time, allow LidAwake in System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions. Then
    /Applications/LidAwake.app/Contents/MacOS/LidAwake --helper-status
    should show enabled protocol=7 sleep-disabled=1 session=ours.
  7. In Terminal run while true; do date; sleep 10; done > ~/lidawake-test.log, close the lid for 3 minutes, open it, stop the loop with Ctrl+C. The log should have no gaps longer than about 10 seconds.
  8. Switch the mode off. pmset -g | grep -i sleepdisabled shows 0 (or nothing).
  9. Switch Run with Lid Closed on again, then killall -9 LidAwake. Within about two minutes pmset -g | grep -i sleepdisabled shows 0 again.
  10. Uninstall: quit LidAwake, run /Applications/LidAwake.app/Contents/MacOS/LidAwake --uninstall-helper, delete the app.

Please reply in #1 with the Mac model, the macOS version, the outputs of steps 1, 3, 6, 8 and 9, and the gaps from step 7 if there were any. If something fails, the exact output is the most useful part.

  • Warns when macOS is set to log out automatically after inactivity: logging out quits LidAwake and ends the mode. The warning shows the path to the setting and can be dismissed.
  • The window no longer grows past the screen: the lower part scrolls when it does not fit.
  • General settings rows take less space.

Requirements: macOS 13 or later, Apple silicon.

To update, open the DMG and drag LidAwake to Applications, replacing the old copy.
