This should be the last update before v0.2.0. Thanks for all the support.

In response to some criticism, the next update for both verdite2 and verdite3 will add an on-boarding procedure which helps players select which gameplay and graphics changes they want enabled.

Changes

  • Billboards now consistently turn to face the player.
  • Fixed bug where a release unpacked over an older one failed to build.
  • The launcher now checks for a new release once an hour instead of once a day

Well! I said I didn't expect the first release to take very long, and here we are! Even I'm surprised. Development was massively accelerated by how similar King's Field II and King's Field III are under the hood, to the point where sometimes the only work required to port an enhancement was discovering the new memory address, though some stuff needed to be reworked significantly.

Once the first round of bug fixes are out from all your feedback, I will backport all of the new changes from verdite3 back into verdite2.

New in Verdite3

  • Gyro aiming for the bow.
  • Rumble support. Currently bow-only, with room to expand to other situations later.
  • DualSense haptics on top of standard rumble (WIP, YMMV).
  • Analog tank controls added as an option.
  • Native in-game settings menu ("PORT SETTINGS").
  • Inverted camera option (requested by a RetroGameTalk user).
  • Fog is now drawn by absolute distance from the player.
  • Patches that would previously crash the game now disable themselves instead.
  • Added safeguards so a crash mid-save can't corrupt your save data.
  • Windows now shows the memory card icon correctly instead of the orb.
  • Crashes now write a report to crashes/.
  • HUD can now extend to the screen corners in widescreen.

Ported from Verdite2

  • Retained-mode GPU renderer
  • Native C# rendering pipeline
  • 60+ FPS interpolation
  • 24-bit colour
  • Perspective-correct textures
  • Per-pixel lighting
  • SSAO
  • Texture filtering
  • Z-buffer
  • Waves and reflections
  • Gear comparison widget
  • Auto-reload on death
  • Twin-stick analog controls
  • Frame profiler and debug mode
  • Everything else from Verdite2 except the remaster editor and enhanced audio
