Getting Started

What is Ultimate Compression?

Ultimate Compression adds compressed variants of nearly every vanilla block and item in Minecraft. The core mechanic is simple: place 9 of any supported material in a 3×3 crafting grid and receive 1 compressed version. That compressed version can be decompressed back into 9 originals at any time, so your resources are never locked away.

The mod also adds a second tier — Double Compressed — where 9 compressed blocks become 1 double compressed block, meaning a single double compressed block represents 81 of the original.

Beyond storage, compressed materials can be used to craft tools and armor with boosted durability and special set-bonus effects.

Installation

  1. Install NeoForge or Fabric for your Minecraft version.
  2. Download the latest Ultimate Compression release from CurseForge.
  3. Place the .jar file in your mods folder.
  4. Launch Minecraft.

Your First Compression

  1. Craft a Compression Catalyst — surround an Iron Ingot with 8 Redstone in a crafting table. The catalyst is not consumed when used and is needed for items that conflict with vanilla recipes. See the Compression Catalyst page for details.
  2. Compress a block — place 9 of any supported block (e.g. Cobblestone) in a 3×3 grid. You'll receive 1 Compressed Cobblestone.
  3. Decompress — place the compressed block alone in the crafting grid to get your 9 blocks back.
  4. Double compress — place 9 compressed blocks in a 3×3 grid to create 1 double compressed block (= 81 originals).

Compatibility

  • JEI (Just Enough Items): All compression recipes appear in JEI for easy lookup.
  • Create: All compressed block recipes can be packed using Create. The compressed logs can also be sawed into planks.
  • Modpacks: Ultimate Compression is MIT licensed — include it freely in any modpack.
